Warpigs 6, Killer Bees 1

The Warpigs and Bees hooked up on TeamViewer tonight for 7 games, and the highlight of the night was a no-hitter in the last game by one of the least likely Pigs.

@ The BallPork

April 4th - Warpigs win 5-4. Opening day at the BallPork! The Bees struck first with 3 runs in the 2nd inning, the last 2 coming on a home run by Alejandro De Aza. They scored again in the 4th on a solo shot by Neil Walker. But the Pigs exploded in the bottom of the 4th with 5 runs on 5 hits. The go ahead run scored when Freddy Freeman booted a 2-out grounder with a runner at third. And that was it - neither team scored again. Mike Leake (9-6) got the win with relief help from Brandon Maurer, who earned his 7th save. Jordan Zimmermann took the loss. Jake Lamb was the unlikely hitting star for the Warpigs, going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. De Aza went 4-4 for the Bees.

April 5th - Warpigs win 4-0. Michael Wacha and three relievers combined on the 1-hit shutout of the Bees. A leadoff single by Jhonny Peralta in the 2nd inning was the lone hit for the Bees. The game was knotted at 0 going to the bottom of the 8th, but the Pigs strung together 5 hits and a walk (along with 2 stolen bases) in the inning. The first run scored on a single by Prince Fielder. Lorenzo Cain, Jason Kipnis, and Ian Kinsler also drove in runs in the inning. Brandon Maurer (3-2) was the beneficiary of the sudden offense, earning the win. Neither Wacha nor the Bees' Alex Wood allowed a run, but neither figured in the decision. Darrin Ruf was 3-3 for the Pigs, and ironically, Fielder was pinch-hitting for Ruf when he knocked in the first run of the game.

April 6th - Warpigs win 6-4. The Bees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning, two of the runs coming when Yangervis Solarte hit a bases-loaded double. The Pigs roared back with a 4-spot in the 6th. Kipnis singled in the first run, and Kinsler greeted reliever Steve Geltz with a 3-run homer to left. In the top of the 8th, the Bees tied it with a Maikel Franco homer off of Antonio Bastardo. (For those of you keeping score at home, the homer was on a 3-4 roll - the same damn roll on which Bastardo surrendered a game-tying home run against the Inmates two days ago. WTH!) In the bottom of the inning, Ian Kinsler doubled with 2-outs and Prince Fielder on first base. Big Daddy had to outrun the throw from the outfield to score the go-ahead run, belly-flopping onto the plate... SAFE! Martin Prado added an insurance run by singling home Kinsler. Pedro Strop (4-4) got the win, with Maurer earning his 8th save.

@ The Beehive

May 17th - Warpigs win 7-0. Garrett Richards (11-7) went the distance, scattering 7 hits. Darrin Ruf and A.J. Pollock both homered off of Alex Wood.

May 18th - Killer Bees win 6-3. The Bees finally broke thru with 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homers (Freddy Freeman and Robinson Chirinos). Julio Tehran gave up single runs in each of the first 3 innings, but the Pig bats turned quiet after that. Liam Hendriks went the final 2 innings for the save. Fielder had 3 hits for the Pigs. Kipnis homered. Mike Leake (9-7) took the loss. Jimmy Rollins went 4-4 for the Bees, and as Mike Leake said afterward, "If Jimmy Rollins goes 4-4 against you, you don't deserve to win."

Back @ The BallPork

June 28th - Warpigs win 3-2 in 13 innings. The Bees scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning when Gregory Polanco homered following a LoCain error in RF. The game stayed 2-0 until the 9th. Alex Wood pitched well again, scrambling out of several messes, but Liam Hendriks couldn't repeat his success from the day before. In the bottom of the 9th, Pollock tied the game with a dramatic 2-run homer off of Hendriks. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Fielder led off with a triple (the big boy can run!), but some deft and clever managing by the Beeboy that included 2 intentional walks left Prince at third. In the 13th, however, Kipnis doubled and Pollock singled him home for the walk-off victory. Josh Tomlin had a great outing, allowing only 3 hits with no walks in 9 innings. He struck out 9. Bastardo (4-2) got the win. Pollock had 4 hits.

June 29th - Warpigs win 2-0. For the third time in the 30-year Warpig history, a Pig hurler tossed a no-hitter. The unlikely ace was Jake Peavy (7-2). who struck out 8, walking no one. The only base runner reached on a dropped fly ball in LF. Ender Inciarte made up for the error by going 3-4 with a home run that broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the 7th, allowing everyone in the park to concentrate on the gem being tossed by Peavy. The box score is below, and when it says the tension was mounting every inning, it really was. The Beeboy was pro enough to not try to jinx it, but I'd be remiss if I didn't pass along his quote from BEFORE the game. He was arranging his lineup, and decided on playing a LF-4, a ss-4, and a RF-5. His comment... "We're going all offense this game."

The Bees rolled 14 times on the hitters' cards and 14 times on Peavy's. There were only 4 x-chances rolled (one each to LF, SS, 2b, and pitcher - all were 1's except Peavy). Oddly, there was only ONE split chance rolled, and that was a ballpark HR chance (1-2) by Franco. He rolled the 10.

Zaps 3, Tweeners 2

Game 1-Scherzer and Smyly locked up in a 1-1 pitcher’s duel through five. Arenado crushed a homer to deep left in the top of the sixth to put the out of towners ahead. Piscotty answered in the bottom of the frame with a 2-run tater. In the 7th Cesar Hernandez added a two-run double and Rasmus picked him up with a sac fly to pad the Zap lead. Rondon relieved Scherzer over the last two innings to seal the deal in a 6-2 triumph in the opener.

Game 2-The Zaps used two singles and a walk to plate a run in the 3rd. Hicks and Zobrist answered in the sixth with back-to-back two out doubles to tie the game. After a walk Cruz popped a three-run tater to give the visitors a three-run cushion. The Zaps opened the bottom of the frame with two singles, a walk, and a sac fly to get within a run. After another walk Moreland hit a two-run double that put the home team in front 5-4. The Tweeners loaded the bases in the top of the 8th with two singles and a walk before Colabello’s base-loaded single plated two to give Logan County the lead. A sacrifice fly padded the lead with an insurance run. The Zaps used two singles and a ground out to get within one run in the bottom of the inning. Chafin came in an slammed the door on the rally with two-perfect frames to finish off the 7-6 victory.

Game 3- Cruz opened the scoring by reaching base on a single, advancing to second on a ground out, and scoring on Ben Zobrist’s double. In the bottom of the third Ray got wild and opened the inning by hitting Blanco. After a K Bautista singled Andres to third. Then Cutch hit a single to leftfield that Ethier kicked around letting both runners score. Rasmus hit a sac fly to pick up Andrew and put the good guys ahead 3-1. Goldie’s solo shot in the 7th made it 4-1. Cecil and Ziegler combined to hold the bad guys to goose eggs in the last two innings to complete the 4-1 win.

Game 4-In a rematch of the game one starters Either led off the game with a tater after leading off with a triple in game one vs Scherzer. Bautista walked in the bottom of the frame and Cutch’s single moved him to third where Piscotty’s grounder to the right side tied the game. Goldie’single up the middle scored Cutch to put the home team ahead. Machado followed with a two-run tater to make it 4-1. Rendon continued the hit parade with a single and Martin’s double scored him to plate another. Arenado got one back for the bad guys with a solo shot in the 4th. Goldie singled, stole second, and scored on Rendon’s base knock to put the Zaps back up by 4. Martin followed with a double and Blanco’s single up the middle made it 8-2. Ethier opened the 6th with a single and scored when Iglesias doubled to get the Tweeners within 5. Rodon and Verrett blanked Logan County over the last three frames to seal the 8-3 win.

Game 5- The Tweeners loaded the bases with no out in the second but could only play one run. In the bottom of the frame Machado singled and an out later D’Arnaud parked a two-run tater in the left field cheap seats. Cruz singled to open the 4th and Colabello crushed a shot to dead center to put the out of towners on top by a run. Cosart and Phegley hit back-to-back two out doubles in the 6th to pad the lead, and that was all Mad Bum needed as he went the distance with a 5-hit complete game to take the get away game 4-2.

Warpigs 6, Inmates 4

Face-to-face. Cards & dice. The way God intended.

First of all, is it possible we BOTH went 4-6 today? It sure felt like it.

A good, long day of baseball... It started with a Warpig 3-run 1st off of Jose Quintana, and ended 13 hours later with Matt Bush imploding for 4 runs in the 8th inning by the A's. The FFTs and Fungoes joined the Inmates and Pigs at the Ballpark for the game.

But first, there were 10 games to play...

@ The Baptist Bowl

May 8th - Warpigs win 10-3. Jarrett Parker, in a rare start, went 2-2 with a triple and home run and drove in 4 runs. Ender Inciarte also went 2-2 with a homer. Jaime Garcia (9-5) got the win, going 6 innings.

May 9th - Inmates win 7-6 in 15 innings. Ugh. A double by Yoenis Cespedes walked off the win for the Inmates. Cespedes and Carlos Gonzalez, 2 members of the Inmates' Murderer's Row, both homered earlier in the game. The Inmate pitchers held the Warpigs to 8 hits over 15 innings, and 5 of them came in the 4-run 6th. Tyler Clippard (0-2), the last Pig in the pen, took the loss.

May 10th - Inmates win 4-3. The Pigs outhit the Inmates 9-8. And held the Inmates scoreless in all but one inning. Unfortunately for the Pigs, that one inning was a 4-spot, punctuated with a 3-run shot by Anthony Rizzo. Cespedes went 4-4. Michael Wacha (7-4) took the loss.

@ The BallPork

June 20th - Warpigs win 6-5. This was the turning point in the series. In fact, it was the turning point several times. The Inmates scored 2 in the 4th off of Garcia, but the Pigs answered with RBIs from Prince Fielder and Lorenzo Cain in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2. A J.D. Martinez homer (on a friggin 2-2 roll! WTH!) put the Inmates back on top in the 5th. But in the bottom of the 6th, Jason Kipnis and Fielder knocked in the tying and go ahead runs. But then came the 9th... Brandon Maurer got the first 2 outs of the inning easily enough, but Cespedes came in to pinch hit. The Warpig manager, being oh-so-clever, switched to the lefty Antonio Bastardo. The Inmate manager, being oh-so-cleverer, called Yoenis back and went with Eugenio Suarez. No problem, right? In this park, the only real danger is if he rolls 3-4. So Suarez, of course, promptly rolled the 3-4 solid homer to tie the game. BALLS! Now, one might think Bastard-O would be satisfied to just give up the homer, but no, Jean Segura then blasted a double. Sickened and appalled, the Pigs turned to Darren O'Day to get out of the inning, but HE was greeted by another double, this one from Jose Altuve, and the Inmates had the lead 5-4 going to the bottom of the 9th. Justin Grimm had retired all 5 batters he had faced, including the first 2 in the bottom of the 9th... but when Jarrett Parker stepped in to pinch hit, a change was made to the lefty All Star, Matt Thornton. Parker doubled down the line to keep the Pig hopes alive. A.J. Ramos then came in to face A.J. Pollock in an epic battle of A.J.'s. The at bat last 13 pitches, with Pollock continuing to foul balls off. When he finally connected with a fair ball, first baseman Rizzo (1b-1e9), whose mind had wandered and was now staring at the Dancin' Sassy Sows perched atop the dugout, booted the grounder, putting runners at the corners, still with 2 outs. Martin Prado came thru with the big single, plating Parker to tie the game. Yadier Molina pinch hit then because he has a 3-8 clutch hit. So, of course, he promptly rolled the 3-8 omega for the walk off win. An uproarious celebration followed. The sound of the celebration reached the showers where Bastardo was trying (and failing) to hang himself. At first, it appeared several where running to his aid, but they were only competing to see who get a snapshot of the hanging posted to Instagram first.

June 21st - Inmates win 7-1. Still in a daze from the previous game, both teams managed only 6 hits each, but the Inmates got a 3-run homer (Altuve) and a 2-run homer (Martinez). All the Pigs could manage was a 3 doubles from Lorenzo Cain. The last of Cain's doubles knocked in the only Pig run of the game in the 9th to avert the shutout. Zach Davies got the win, going 8.1 (or, a fourth of his allowed innings for the year). Garrett Richards (9-7) took the loss, getting yanked after only 2 innings.

Back @ The Baptist Bowl

August 1st - Warpigs win 8-4. Zach Davies was on the hill again for the Inmates, but this time was blasted for 4 runs in the 1st, and 2 more in the 6th. He allowed 10 hits in 6 innings. Jaime Garcia (10-5) didn't have his best stuff, but pitched well enough to get the win. Pedro Strop earned his 11th save. Ian Kinsler went 3-4 with 2 stolen bases. In the Inmate half of the 2nd inning, the Inmates bunched together 2 singles, a double, and a walk... but only scored one run. This wouldn't be the last time we would get to witness the "Inmate Inning."

August 2nd - Warpigs win 7-0. The only shutout of the series, and it didn't happen at the BallPork. Weird. Garrett Richards allowed only 2 singles over 8 innings. Drew Pomeranz pitched the 9th. A.J. Pollock was the hitting star, going 2-4 with a double and a stolen base. He scored 2 and drove in 2. Martin Prado had 3 singles, 2 of which drove in runs.

Back @ The BallPork

September 1st - Warpigs win 5-4. Garrett Richards had another miserable 1st inning against murder's row, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and a hit batter. But the Pig bats bailed him out in the bottom of the 2nd with 3 runs of their own. There was another appearance of the "Inmate Inning" in this game. In the top of the 5th, the Inmates sent 5 batters to the plate. There were 3 singles and a double by those 5 batters, but the Inmates only scored 1. And that inning, although it gave the Inmates a 4-3 lead, would be key in the Warpig win. In the bottom of the 8th, Yadier Molina just missed a 2-run homer, instead doubling off the top of the wall to drive in Jake Lamb with the tying run. Ender Inciarte doubled in Yadi with the go ahead run. Strop and Bastardo combined for a 3-up, 3-down 9th. Bastardo redeemed himself, earning his 4th save of the year. Brandon Maurer (2-2) got the win in relief. Inciarte went 3-5 with a single, double, and triple, driving in 3.

September 2nd - Warpigs win 5-4 in 14 innings. 15 pitchers were used (not counting Jake Peavy, who bunted into a double play in the 8th). There were a combined 23 hits, 12 walks, 27 strikeouts, and 4 stolen bases. The Warpigs overcame a 3-1 deficit with a 3-run 6th inning, all of the runs coming with 2 outs and the last one on a pinch hit, clutch single by Martin Prado. The winning run came in the bottom of the 14th. Lorenzo Cain singled (his 3rd hit of the game) and stole second. He scored on a Prado hit (also his 3rd hit of the game - and he didn't even start). Prince Fielder contributed his second consecutive 3-hit game. Adam Wainwright (5-1), with 3.2 innings of relief, got the win.

September 3rd - Inmates win 7-2. Putting an end to the 4-game losing streak, the Inmates turned once again to Zach Davies. He and 3 relievers held the Warpigs to 4 hits. Michael Wacha (7-5) took the loss, thanks in part to wildness and his own error. Adam Jones went 3-4 for the Inmates. A.J. Pollock homered for the Warpigs.

In the 10-game series, the Warpigs scored 53 runs on 101 hits. The Inmates scored 45 on 83 hits. But... the Inmates outhomered the Pigs 11-4.

The Inmates drop to 5.5 games in back of the Fungoes in the HWD. The Warpig lead in the BUD is now 8.5 over the Wahoos.

Tweeners 3, DVs 2

“A good time was had by all”

Sidewinders 3, Zaps 2

5/6 Sidewinders 8, Zaps 4 Lester over Greinke. Gordon goes 3 for 3.

5/7 Zaps 9 Sidewinders 3. Volquez holds them hitless until the 6th but the Zaps pile it on late. McCutchen, Machado and Martin homer for the Zaps. Ziegler with save, kimbrel with the loss

5/7 game 2 Sidewinders 3 Zaps 2. Hamels goes the distance. Billy Hamilton led off the game with a HR, Marte added solo shot later. Winning  run scored in the 8th. Gordon singled, stole second and third and scored on the throwing error.

7/30 Hamels another CG as the Zaps beat the snakes and Chris Sale 5-1. Shaw hit a 2 run homer for late insurance. After the game, upset by having to wear the 1998 throwback jerseys, Chris Sale cuts the crotch out of all 25 pairs of pants.

7/31 Snakes score 3 in bottom of the ninth off Ziegler to win 3-2.

Warpigs 3, FFTs 1

All games at The Grove via TeamViewer.

July 11 - Warpigs win 7-6. A 4-run Pig 1st inning turned out to almost not be enough. The FFTs stormed back with 2 homers off of Michael Wacha and another off of Pedro Strop. J.T. Realmuto hit the Strop homer in the 8th inning to get the FFTs within 1. Troy Tulowitzki had bounced into 2 in front of Realmuto, or the damage would have been worse. And when the FFTs tired Strop in the 9th with a single by Miguel Cabrera, Brandon Maurer was forced to come in and try to save the game. J.J. Reddick welcomed Maurer with a double to center. Miggy tried to score on the play, but A.J. Pollock nailed him at the plate for the second out. Yunel Escobar grounded weakly to end the game, giving Maurer his 6th save of the year. Wacha, who pitched like crap, got the win anyway to get to 7-3. Darrin Ruf was the hitting star, going 3-5 with a double and home run. Ruf drove in 4.

July 12 - FFTs win 5-4. A reverse of the previous day, the FFTs put up a 5-spot early and hung on. Chi Chi Gonzalez, who has struggled this year, was up to par today for the win. The Warpigs outhit the FFTs, 7-6, but a 3-run homer by Hunter Pence spelled doom for losing pitcher Mike Leake (8-6). Miggy Cabrera also homered for the FanTastics. Martin Prado homered for the visiting Pigs. Adam Warren earned the save. An interesting situation developed in the 7th inning of this game: a poker game broke out. Both managers exited TeamViewer to participate in a poker game online. Following our dismissal from the card game, play was resumed at The Grove.

July 13 - Warpigs win 2-1. The pitcher's duel between Jaime Garcia and John Lackey felt like a BallPork game. The winning run scored in the 6th when Ender Inciarte singled with 1 out, stole 2nd, and scored on Francisco Cervelli's single. Garcia (8-5) went 7 innings for the win. Darren O'Day notched his 5th save. The Pigs outhit the FFTs 11-6. Side note... the Pigs lost a run in the 4th inning when Andrelton Simmons was thrown out at the plate. The safe chance was 1-13. The die roll was 13, but the catcher "blocked the plate" to deny the run. How is this still something Strat won't let us turn off? Blocking the plate isn't even allowed anymore!

July 14 - Warpigs win 11-0. Garrett Richards (9-6) threw the complete game shutout, allowing only 5 singles and a walk. All 5 FFT hurlers gave up at least 1 run as the Pigs exploded for 15 hits. Prince Fielder had 3 of them. Lorenzo Cain doubled and homered, driving in 3. Martin Prado also collected 3 RBI.

Tweeners 2, Inmates 1

All games at the Baptist Bowl. Back-to-back one-hitters close out the series.

TWEENERS 10 – LDMF 1: Tweeners wrecking crew destroyed the LDMF arson squad with four HRs (Cruz/Colabello/Phegley/Arenado) while MadBum (InsaneArse?) pitched a CG. Rizzo tatered in the 2nd for the last run the Dickless Chicken Gang would get in a long while.

TWEENERS 8 – NDMF 0: The total demolishing of the Emasculated Wonders continued with Gray tossing a one-hit shutout. McHugh pitched batting practice (quite successfully). The only Inmate hit came in the 4th when Altuve doubled off of his own card. What probably should have been an easy pop out to second wound up being an extra-base hit due to the shock experienced by the Tweener defense of somebody on the NDMF actually making any kind of meaningful contact.

INMATES 5 – TWEENERS 0: What goes around comes around. Ethier led off the game with a single, with no one in the crowd of 1108 suspecting that no other Tweener would get another hit for the rest of the game. Ross and three Inmate relievers combined for the one-hit shutout. Cargo, Valbuena, and Jones homered for the good guys.

The HEAD INMATE

Mavs 5, Warpigs 5

The Pigs roll in for ten against the Mavs.  The Mavs are playing all ten against Hal.  The Pigs don’t have to listen to the Mavs play Dr. John all day so maybe the Pigs have the right idea.  It is a Desitively Bonnaroo day for baseball.  Let’s play ten.

April 27th:  Homers 0/2 singles 0/0?  What kind of communist plot is this?  The Mavs best bunter is Chris Davis.  True story.  Carlos King Carrasco against former Mav Garrett Richards.  Upton hits a three run homer in the top of the fifth on a 2-6 homer 1-19.  Richards is rattled and walks three straight.  Hal goes to the mound and hands him a valium as Richards faces ARod (boo) with two outs and the bases loaded.  ARod steps back into the dugout for a shot and flies to center.  Good.  I hate him too.  Top of the seventh and once again Richards has loaded the bases to face ARod (boo) with two outs.  The out of town Mav fans are heard to chant “let not your Uribe sized bat go flaccid at this critical juncture”.  Fly to right.  Good.  I hate him too.  Richards has walked eight and struck out six through seven innings.  The Pigs do not appear to have him on a strict pitch count.  An exhausted Richards gives up another 5-9 homer after his ninth walk in the top of the ninth and Hal finally pulls him.  The Mavs hang on to win 6-1 behind a Carrasco three hitter.  The Grumpy’s Bail Bonds player of the game goes to King Carrasco and the Betty’s Brothel blow of the game goes to Justin Upton.

April 28th:  Ft. Worth’s own Yovani Gallardo against Josh Tomlin who probably comes from Eastern elite city so let’s all pull for Yovani, he is Making America Great Again.  So have you guys seen the Pigs defense?  Six ones, a two and Prince.  We’re planning to drag bunt a lot.  Unfortunately we can’t bunt worth a damn and have the ratings to prove it.  Consequently it is 0-0 after six (the Mavs have had four BP home run outs so far –communist Pigs).  Three more innings fly by.  The Pigs are in the pen and the Mavs still have super patriot Yovani Gallardo on the hill.  The Mavs have left nine on and the Pigs four.  The Pigs get a two out double and pinch run for their 1 at Catcher.  He gets stranded and lo and behold the pinch runner is a 1 at catcher.  In the bottom of the twelfth Hunter Strickland finally replaces Gallardo.  A 4-2 walk, single and pitcher X chart single loads the bases for Cervelli with one out.  The Mavs bring in KRod.  Cervelli chases and K’s.  Prado follows with a K.  I guess that explains the nickname.  In the top of the 13th Upton singles, steals second and scores on a Harper 1-6 double.  The Pigs miss a homer 1-9 fly, hit a double and leave him stranded and the Mavs hang on to win 1-0 in 13 innings.  The Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game goes to Harper had three of the Mavs seven hits including the game winner.

June 6th:  Back in the Rastadome where the hitters have a chance, Viagra for Bats Buchholz vs. Garrett Richards who may still be winded from his April 27th start.  .  5IP 12 hits and two walks for Buchholz.  It’s going to take blackmail to get Buchholz a win.  The rest of the game is eventless as Richards shuts the Mavs down winning 6-4 and earning the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game.

June 7th:  Jaime Garcia (well known human trafficker – let’s all root for the Mavs) against Ft. Worth’s own Yovanni Gallardo who is Making America Great Again.  The Mavs score three in the bottom of the first on a whole bunch of real cheap hits and one double.  A Kendrick X and Carlos Correa error leads to two runs in the top of the third for the Pigs.  The Mavs do not own a defense like the Pigs.  In fact it may not be fair to call it a defense at all.  James McCann sends Bernice Brewer down the slide with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth, 4-2 and the Mavs take it 5-2.  Gallardo gets the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game giving up four hits and a walk in six innings.

June 8th:  Rich Hill vs. Carlos King Carrasco.  Given that Hill is all but unhittable the Mavs management has a great promotion going today.  We’re handing out Bernice Brewer Condom Dispensers (works a little like a Pez candy dispenser) to all fans over 14 (it was going to be 18 but we heard that a lot of fans were making the trip from Kentucky and in the interests of public safety we lowered the age).  It is tied going to the ninth and the Pigs win after Kipnis fouls off a bunt attempt only to double when Hal took the sign off.  Two insurance runs came across later and the Pigs win 7-4.  Kipnis wins the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game going 4-5 with the big double.

July 19th:  Ft. Worth’s own Yovani Gallardo against Mike Leake back in the Communist Pigsty.  All kinds of squirrelly shit leads to all of the runs and it is 2-1 after eight in favor of the Pigs.  Hal leaves Leake on the mound for the complete game and why not he has given up only four hits and two walks.  Harper leads off.  2-2 lomax.  Valencia next.  Single 1-2 ground out (5-9).  Split is 2.  Sam Fuld pinch runs and Chris Davis who has done nothing all day comes to the plate.  6-4 CFX.  Guess what he is a 1.  Two outs.  ARod to the plate (boo).  Walk.  Brad Miller pinch runs as the winning run on first.  The Mavs pinch hit Kendrick for Correa (omega hits).  5-3 pitcher X.  He is a 2e8 even their pitchers can field but the split is a one and in addition it is a two base error.  The Mavs take the lead.  I’m glad the Pigs didn’t have to see that.  The Mavs lose their DH and try to hang on with a makeshift defense.  The Pigs get the tying run on but he is stranded at first.  The Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game is Kendrick for hitting a groundball X to the pitcher.  Only in the Pigsty.  Mavs win 3-2.

July 20th:  Michael Wacha (a big fan of the TV show The Bachelorette so let’s all root for the Mavs) vs. Carlos King Carrasco.  Through seven it is 2-1 Mavs still clinging to a lead established on a 1-4 HR from Harper with a runner on in the first.  The Pigs scored their run through so many embarrassing defensive lapses by the Mavs that I can’t bear to repeat it.  Both teams are getting runners thrown out all over the place as they try to scratch out runs in this park.  This park gives me a headache.  The Pigs hit a ballpark homer 1-2 with a runner on in the eighth (Darren Ruf off of Hansel Robles) to win the game 3-2.  Makes up a little for the last game.  Ruf wins the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game.

July 21th:  Mercifully the last game in the Pigsty.  The Mav batters show up for the game drunk because hey what difference does it make?  Jason Hammel against Josh Tomlin.  Hammel is against radical Islam so let’s all root for the Mavs.  Alas all of the rooting was for naught.  Tomlin held the Mavs to two hits while striking out ten vs one walk.  Lorenzo Cain was the hitting star going 3-4 with a homer but the Pigs win going away 5-0.

August 19th:  Jaime Garcia, who kicks dogs so let’s all root for the Mavs, vs. Ft. Worth’s native son, Yovani Gallardo who is Making America Great Again.  It was another low scoring affair.  Do the Pigs play anything else?  The Mavs won 3-2 with the Betty’s Brothel Blow of the Game being a 2 out single by Howie Kendrick in the bottom of the sixth to put the Mavs ahead.  The other notable event was Zach Britton giving up his first run of the year in game 101 on a ballpark home run to Cain.  Despite giving up nine hits in six innings, Gallardo held the Pigs to one run and wins the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game.  3-2 Mavs.

August 20th:  Garrett Richards vs. Carlos King Carrasco.  Richards doesn’t like the movie The Sandlot so let’s all root for the Mavs.  The city council has declared it smoked pork butt day in Midlothian and shutdown main street (which for the most part is the city) to serve free pork butts and Shiner Bock beer to the native ensuring an enthusiastic crowd for today’s games.  We’ve also suspended checking patrons for handguns when entering the ballpark because hey we support the second amendment down here.  By the ninth the Mav fans are pointing the guns at the team as the Pigs just keep pounding out hits while the Mavs anemic offense has only managed three runs courtesy of rare fielding miscues by the Pigs.  With the Pigs up 5-3 the Mavs lead off the ninth by asking Brad Miller to put down his copy of 50 Shades of Gray to pinch hit for Lucroy.  3-12 single.  Heyward next.  Fielder’s choice to second.  Upton due up.  5-5 K.  Harper is the last gasp.  2-10 grounder to second.  Richards wins the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game throwing seven strong innings giving up five hits, four walks and two earned runs.  As a side note, Carlos Correa is 2 for his last 69 at bats.  Now that is a slump.

Sidewinders 6, DVs 4

Snakes and DVs hooked up via Team Viewer (BTW – there is a 3 hour limit before they automatically close the session since it’s the free version) and the Snakes take 6 of 10.
Most interesting part was what if I told you that the leading Snake reliever would have an ERA of 0.82 in 11 innings – you’d think sure – Kimbrel, Chapman, Davis or Miller – but NO – Chris Young rides in to the rescue. And if I also told you that the worst reliever had a 10.80 ERA you’d think sure – Chad Allen or Brad Brach – but NO – Aroldis Chapman brings up the rear of the pen.
Both teams probably had chances to each win more than what they ended up with- including a 15-13 walk off for the DVs where each team scored 5 in the 9th, and the DVs scoring 12 in the last 3 innings.

The 2016 NASOMA All Star Game

The first ever NASOMA All Star Game was a showcase for the home town kid. Played at the Baptist Bowl, Inmate Carlos Gonzalez stole the show, homering twice in his friendly confines and winning the MVP as the BUD/HWD PigPals defeated the MFD/AWD SnakeCharmers 4-1.

The PigPals came out hot, loading the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 1st against Zach Greinke, but CarGo struck out and Xander Bogaerts bounced into a double play.

There were no other real scoring threats by either team until the 6th inning. With the Inmates' Matt Thornton on the hill, Buster Posey of the Drillers blasted a 1-out double off the wall in left. Thornton got the Mavs' Bryce Harper to line out, bringing up Paul Goldschmidt, the slugging first baseman of the Zaps. While intentional walks are frowned upon in All Star Games, PigPal manager Pigman backed up his "We're playing to win!" message and ordered the free pass. Chris Davis was due, but was called back for Alex Rodriguez. The Pigs' own Darren O'Day relieved Thornton, but walked ARod to load the bases. The packed house of 50,165 erupted when O'Day then struck out the Drillers' Josh Donaldson to the end the inning.

That Baptist Bowl eruption was only a precursor to the deafening roar that came in the bottom of the inning when their own CarGo launched a 1-out fastball from the Goofs' Jacob deGrom into the home run porch down the right field line.

The lead was short-lived, however. Over in the PigPal dugout, manager Pigman laughed at the Wahoo manager's notion that Dellin Betances was the worst pitcher in baseball, and brought the big righty in to protect the 1-0 lead. He didn't. It turns out he IS the worst pitcher in baseball. Betances walked Freddy Freeman (Bees) and Jose Iglesias (Tweeners) on 8 straight pitches, 3 of which hit the Pig mascot. Erasmo Ramirez of the DVs came on to still the rising tumult, but a Ben Zobrist (Tweeners) single tied the score and put runners on the corners, still with no outs. A dazed Pigman made yet another trip to the mound. As he would say later, "I was trying to decide who could get us out of this without too much damage, and I remembered that the Rhino right-hander Gerritt Cole had shut down the Warpigs earlier this year, so maybe he could do the same now." And shut them down he did. Brantley and Posey both hit grounders right at infielders, the latter getting Iglesias thrown out at the plate. And when Cole struck out Harper looking, the place was jumping again.

With the score now 1-1, SnakeCharmer manager Snakeman brought in his own Chris Sale to pitch, but the DVs' Giancarlo Stanton pinch hit a double to start the inning. After Mike Trout (Fungoes) struck out, local hero Jose Altuve of the Inmates came up to hit. His routine grounder to third was booted by Donaldson, putting runners on the corners with 1 out. Raisel Iglesias, the young Buckeye hurler, relieved Sale, but Warpig Jason Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly to left to give the PigPals the lead again. The Snakeman here made the controversial decision to bring in the Zaps' Brad Ziegler to face CarGo, eschewing the Mavs' Zach Britton, who was warm in the pen. CarGo said thank you very kindly and blasted the ball off of the transformer above the upper deck in right field.

Side note... In true Inmate fashion, the mobbing of CarGo at home plate resulted in the need to remove him from the field on a stretcher. He suffered a separated shoulder, a cracked elbow, two broken ribs, three upper ankle sprains, and several knife wounds. He will miss the rest of the season.

The "good" Wahoo relievers, Jake McGee and Mark Melancon, pitched the 8th and 9th innings respectively to close out the win.

A great time was had by all. Even CarGo said "totally worth it" when asked about the injuries. And, well, "all" is a bit hyperbolic. Brantley and Harper combined to go 0-10 with 4 strikeouts, and Mike Trout suffered a laceration on his throwing hand, which he claimed to have accidentally done to himself with his own knife during the CarGo celebration. Trout's reaction? "Totally worth it."

Thanks to everyone who showed up to view the game. TeamViewer is only as good your computer's connection, so it isn't perfect... but it's a better option than NetPlay.

Tweeners 2, Inmates 1

Entertaining 3 game set at the Hooverdome, with the home team taking 2 of 3.
7/22 – Inmates 4, Tweeners 3.  A Car-go 1st inning HR gives the Inmates an early lead against Shelby Miller, Tweeners get a 3-run 4th featuring back-to-back jacks by Arenado and Cruz, but a 2-run bomb by JD Martinez in the 8th made a loser of Andrew Chafin.  W – Ross, S – Tolleson.
7/23 – Tweeners 1, Inmates 0.  Only 4 hits for each team, but an Aaron Hicks HR off Quintana is all MadBum needs for the CG SHO.
7/24 – Tweeners 5, Inmates 4 (11 inn.).  Inmates score 4 in the 4th off Felix on 2-run homers by JD Martinez and Adam Jones.  Tweeners plate a run in the 5th, and a Vogt tater in the 7th cuts the lead to 2.  Arenado ties it with a 2-run shot in the 8th.  Top of the 11th Martinez is thrown out trying to score from 1st on a 2-out Castro double.  Arenado leads off the bottom half with a triple, with OF in Blazek fans Cruz and Colabello, but Schoop comes through with the walk-off hit.  Carson Smith picks up the W.

Funny, But Not

Mrs. Pig brought to my attention today a short video of the Cleveland Indians performing a Jobu ceremony in their clubhouse to try and get Yan Gomes out of his 0-27 slump. Pretty funny stuff.

Then in today's game, Gomes doubled his first time up to end the drought. His next time up, though, he tripped trying to run out a ground ball. He was carted off the field with a separated shoulder.

"I'm pissed off now, Jobu. Look, I go to you. I stick up for you. You no help me now. I say "Fuck you Jobu", I do it myself."

Sidewinders 3, Nads 2

Snake pitching coach Mario Soto told Hector Santiago to pretend he is Clayton Kershaw. Hector one hit the Nads in game 1 and no hit them in game 5. Nads take 2 of the middle 3 for the traditional Tweener split.

4/29 Snakes cruise 8-0.Dozier draws a walk in the8th to break up perfect game. Revere singles sharply with one out in the 9th to ruin the no-hitter. Nick Hundley goes 3-3 with 4 RBI in his first game batting second.

4/30 Nads win 7-3 behind CG effort by CJ Wilson. Game was tied at3 until Snakes had another bullpen fail late. Chapman is the loser but the big blowwas 3 run HR off of Brach by the ToddFather.

7/22 CJ strikes again and Nads win 5-3 beating Jon Lester. Rondon with the save.

7/23 Volquez with the CG victory over Fiers 9-1.

7/24 This time Santiago finishes the no-no. Snakes win 4-0 Big Papi drives in3. Santiago's line for the series is 18 IP, 1 hit, 4 walks, 8K.

Wahoos 4, Nads 1

Game 1:
Fiers vs. Travis Wood
The fourth batter of the game (Todd Frazier) hits a 3-run homer. Wahoos string together 4 hits in the bottom of the first and get a pair of runs back. Looks like it's going to be one of THOSE games. Calhoun hit a 2-run blast in the seventh to tie the score, 5-5. Refsnyder answered with a 2-run shot in the bottom of the inning. Wahoos added 2 in the eighth and Betances retired the final four batters to nail down the save. 9-5 Wahoos

Game 2:
Dickey vs. Estrada
Refsnyder -- in at 2B this series -- giveth and he also taketh away. He blasted a big triple in the second inning and scored. He also allowed a single at second in the fourth to allow a run. And then he added an RBI double in the sixth. Wahoos hang on for a 6-3 victory after Melancon and osuna combine to hold the Nads scoreless the final 4 innings.

Game 3:
Nick Martinez vs. Anibal Sanchez
Kendrys Morales helped puncuate a 4-run Wahoos outburst in the third with a three-run jimmy jack. He hit a solo blast in the 5th. All hell broke loose in the seventh. The Nads broke out for eight runs including a grand slam from Todd Frazier to greet Dellin Betances. Now, the Nads lead, 8-7. Crap. Dozier followed with a homer. Ugh. Nads hang on to win, 9-7.

Game 4:
Dickey vs. Verlander
And here we go again. Montero hits a grand slam in the first inning for the Nads. Wahoos fall behind 5-0 before a Norris solo shot in the fourth. Then, in the ninth, the comeback began. Kendrys Morales hit a 2-run homer to tie the score with 2 outs in the ninth. Refsnyder scores on a game-winning single from Pham with one out in the 12th. Wahoos hang on, 6-5.

Game 5
Martinez vs. Sanchez
Wahoos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Refsnyder stayed hot with a homer in the second. Sigh. After building an 8-4 lead the Nads wouldn't go away. Betances and company let them back in the game. To keep things interesting, Khris Davis homered with two on in the ninth to give us the 11-8 win. Absolutely nothing comes easy.

For the series, Rob Refsnyder hit .609 with 4 doubles, a triple and 3 homers. Wahoos hit .321 as a team with 16 homers. Khris Davis hit 5 homers. The Nads hit .257 with 8 homers. Frazier hit .500 with 9 RBI.

Transaction

As a result of the Home Run Derby, the Warpigs traded their 2017 13th round pick to the Wahoos for their 2017 14th round pick.

Extra Reserve Contest Update

At the All Star break, the DVs have surged into the lead in the Extra Reserve Contest. The Rhinos dominated for most of the first half, but have currently fallen into 3rd place.

Here are the current point totals:

1. DVs 618 (If he had picked the Braves instead of the Phillies, he'd have already clinched.)

2. Warpigs 613 (Go Pirates)

3. Rhinos 612 (Cubs and Rangers struggling at the same time hurt him, but Indians were a great pick.)

4. Fungoes 604 (He did pick the Braves, but the White Sox haven't sucked as much as they need to.)

5. Sidewinders 603 (Picking the Orioles to be bad hasn't worked out yet.)

T6. Buckeyes 601 (Another one who didn't believe in the Cubs)

T6. Mavs 601 (Only one who picked the Yankees to lose. Would be better off right now with the Rays.)

8. Killer Bees 594 (Only team to pick the Cardinals, so there's hope.)

9. Drillers 589 (If the Orioles go into a nose dive, he's in the race.)

10. Inmates 585 (If the Orioles AND the Indians go into a nose dive, he's in the race.)

11. Wahoos 584 (The Indians are killing the Wahoos. Gotta be a joke in there somewhere.)

12. FFTs 580 (Same situation as the Inmates, only without the Nationals)

13. Zaps 569 (Another Buck Showalter doubter)

14. Tweeners 557 ("I swear I thought the Diamondbacks would be good.")

15. Goofs 545 (The Goof selections placed 5th in the Inmates' top Adult Jokes of the year.)

16. Nads 0 (Go Expos!)

Inmates 6, FFTs 4

INMATES 10 – FFTs 1 (Baptist Bowl): Inmates pounded W. Chen from the get-go, highlighted by a three-run homer by Jones in the 3rd. Not much good happened for the FFTs.

FFTS 6 – INMATES 2 (Baptist Bowl):  Cano hit a pair of taters off of Salazar and Lynn pitched 8 2/3 for the easy FFT win.

INMATES 6 – FFTS 4 (Baptist Bowl): Castro hit a three-run HR in the 6th for the final Inmate runs. An FFT rally in the 8th fell short; Ramos picked up the save for the Beakless Chicken Gang.

INMATES 5 – FFTS 2 (The Grove):  The Inmates hit solo homers by Cargo, Cespedes, and Rizzo to put the game away. Salazar inhaled a little less vociferously to pick up the win.

FFTS 3 – INMATES 2 (The Grove): A pitcher’s duel between Samardzija and Pineda. JD Martinez hit a two-run spud in the 2nd for all of the Inmate runs. Warren picked up the save for the FFTs.

INMATES 3 – FFTS 1 (Baptist Bowl):  Another quasi-pitcher’s duel. Jones and Suarez hit back-to-back HRs for the Inmates in the 5th for all of the LDMF scoring. Chen took it on the chin for a loss. Or maybe it was Chin took it on the Chen. Whatever.

FFTS 9 – INMATES 2 (Baptist Bowl): Collin McHugh allowed nine runs on sixteen hits in another of his usual effective starts. Only Wieters avoided the hitfest among FFT starters, going 0-5. Samardzija K’d twelve in 8 1/3 for the easy win.

FFTS 6 – INMATES 2 (The Grove): McHugh once again self-imolated, allowing taters to Pederson and Realmuto, to continue his year-long suck-O-rama. Lynn got the easy W for the FFTs.

INMATES 6 – FFTS 3 (The Grove): Reddick hit two HRs for the FFTs but Chen did his best McHugh imitation and allowed homers to Rosario, Suarez, and Lawrie as the Inmates managed to finagle a win.

INMATES 3 – FFTS 1 (The Grove): Solo homers by Cargo, Rizzo, Valbuena, and Realmuto accounted for all of the scoring in this snoozer.

Warpigs 3, FFTs 1

Via TeamViewer. All games at The BallPork.

May 30 - Game 1 of Double Header - Warpigs win 7-6 in 12 innings. In the opening game of the Memorial Day Double Header, the Warpigs came from behind to win their 4th straight against the FFTs this season. Errors by Michael Wacha and Prince Fielder led to 4 unearned runs by the FFTs in the 4th inning, but the Warpigs scored 3 in the bottom of the 4th to get within 1. Lorenzo Cain doubled in A.J. Pollock in the 8th inning to tie the game. Then in the 12th, Ian Kinsler delivered the walk-off hit, singling in Yadier Molina. Darren O'Day (1-1) got the win for his inning of work.

Between games of the double header, the Warpigs had their Ring Ceremony for their 2015 championship. Team captain Yadier Molina said, "It just made sense to have the ceremony today. There were 27 of the 30 members of last year's squad here today. 9 playing for us, 8 playing for them, and 10 who suck so bad they are out of baseball this year. We were only missing 3 guys."

May 30 - Game 2 of Double Header - Warpigs win 4-3. The FFTs scored 2 first inning runs, forcing the Warpigs to come from behind again. The Pigs scored 2 in the 2nd to tie the game, and in the 6th, Adeiny Hechevarria, A.J. Pollock, and Lorenzo Cain all hit doubles for the other 2 runs. Jake Peavy (5-2) got the win, and Pedro Strop earned his 8th save.

May 31 - Warpigs win 7-2. The FFTs again had a 2-run first inning, but that would be all they got. Jake Lamb blasted a 2-run homer, and Garrett Richards (6-3) settled down to go 6 innings for the win. Tyler Clippard went the final 3 innings for his 2nd save.

June 1 - FFTs win 3-1. Joc Pederson homered, J.T. Realmuto had 3 hits, and Delino Deshields twice plated runs with RBI base hits. John Lackey went 6 innings for the win. Jake Diekman, Sam Dyson, and Adam Warren each threw an inning, holding off any hopes the Pigs had of coming back for a 4th straight game.

Warpigs 3, Tweeners 2

Games played via TeamViewer.

6/30 @ The BallPork - Warpigs win 4-2. Martin Prado broke a scoreless tie in the 4th with a 2-out rbi single. Francisco Cervelli then followed with a 2-run double. That was enough for Garrett Richards (4-3), who went 7 innings. Four relievers combined to go the last 2 innings, with Brandon Maurer getting his 3rd save of the year. Nellie Cruz hit a 2-run homer in the 6th for the only Tweener runs. Drew Smyly went the distance in the loss, striking out 13 and allowing only 5 hits. The Tweeners were held to 4 hits.

7/1 @ The BallPork - Warpigs win 3-1. Martin Prado and Ender Inciarte both took King Felix deep. Mike Leake (7-3) got the win with last out help from Maurer. The Tweeners were held to 5 hits.

8/12 @ The Hoover Dome - Tweeners win 8-3. The new park helped the Tweener bats light up. Nelson Cruz and Zack Cozart combined to go 5-8 with 2 homers and 7 RBI. Felix Hernandez went 7.1 for the win. Jaime Garcia (7-3) took it on the chin. Jason Kipnis had 3 hits for the Pigs.

8/13 @ The Hoover Dome - Tweeners win 3-2. The Tweeners, with the help of another Cruz homer, scored 3 times in the 2nd inning off of Adam Wainwright (4-1). The six Tweener relievers combined to hold the lead. The Pigs threatened several times - including a missed 1-18 BP homer - but 5 of the relievers got credit for holds and the last one, Francisco Rodriguez, got the save. Robbie Ray, who went 5 innings, got the win. Darrin Ruf went 2-3 with a homer for the Pigs.

8/14 @ The Hoover Dome - Warpigs win 6-1. Garrett Richards (5-3) again stifled the Tweener bats, holding them to 5 hits. A.J. Pollock went 3-5 with a double, a homer, and a stolen base. He scored 2 and knocked in 2. Sonny Gray took the loss for the Tweeners. Andre Ethier homered for the only Tweener run.

Both teams remain in first place in their divisions, but the Tweener lead over the Sidewinders is down to a half game.

Wahoos 7, Inmates 3

Wahoos vs. Inmates played at the Baptist Bowl with cards and dice.

Game 1:
Estrada at Tyson Ross
Wahoos bats muster only two hits and the three-run homer from Adam Jones in the fourth inning was more than enough for the Inmates in their 4-0 victory.

Game 2:
Anibal Sanchez at Pineda
Wahoos unload for a five-run first inning thanks to two walks, two doubles and a triple. Wahoos scored three more with two more doubles and a triple in the fourth. Sanchez struck out nine (no walks) in his 7.1 innings and the bullpen of Osuna, Albers and Betances hang on for the save and a 9-7 victory.

Game 3:
Quintana at Iwakuma
The trip back to The Reservation didn't help the Wahoos much. Inmates hit three more homers including the winner in the eighth. Manship and company nailed down the save in the 5-4 Inmates win.

Game 4:
Ross at Travis Wood
More of the same as the Inmates scored early and often. Anthony Rizzo took his 18th HBP of the series and 49th of the season in the first to help them jump to a three-run inning. Manship and company hang on to the third win in four games, 7-3.
