Game 1-Scherzer and Smyly locked up in a 1-1 pitcher’s duel through five. Arenado crushed a homer to deep left in the top of the sixth to put the out of towners ahead. Piscotty answered in the bottom of the frame with a 2-run tater. In the 7th Cesar Hernandez added a two-run double and Rasmus picked him up with a sac fly to pad the Zap lead. Rondon relieved Scherzer over the last two innings to seal the deal in a 6-2 triumph in the opener.
Game 2-The Zaps used two singles and a walk to plate a run in the 3rd. Hicks and Zobrist answered in the sixth with back-to-back two out doubles to tie the game. After a walk Cruz popped a three-run tater to give the visitors a three-run cushion. The Zaps opened the bottom of the frame with two singles, a walk, and a sac fly to get within a run. After another walk Moreland hit a two-run double that put the home team in front 5-4. The Tweeners loaded the bases in the top of the 8th with two singles and a walk before Colabello’s base-loaded single plated two to give Logan County the lead. A sacrifice fly padded the lead with an insurance run. The Zaps used two singles and a ground out to get within one run in the bottom of the inning. Chafin came in an slammed the door on the rally with two-perfect frames to finish off the 7-6 victory.
Game 3- Cruz opened the scoring by reaching base on a single, advancing to second on a ground out, and scoring on Ben Zobrist’s double. In the bottom of the third Ray got wild and opened the inning by hitting Blanco. After a K Bautista singled Andres to third. Then Cutch hit a single to leftfield that Ethier kicked around letting both runners score. Rasmus hit a sac fly to pick up Andrew and put the good guys ahead 3-1. Goldie’s solo shot in the 7th made it 4-1. Cecil and Ziegler combined to hold the bad guys to goose eggs in the last two innings to complete the 4-1 win.
Game 4-In a rematch of the game one starters Either led off the game with a tater after leading off with a triple in game one vs Scherzer. Bautista walked in the bottom of the frame and Cutch’s single moved him to third where Piscotty’s grounder to the right side tied the game. Goldie’single up the middle scored Cutch to put the home team ahead. Machado followed with a two-run tater to make it 4-1. Rendon continued the hit parade with a single and Martin’s double scored him to plate another. Arenado got one back for the bad guys with a solo shot in the 4th. Goldie singled, stole second, and scored on Rendon’s base knock to put the Zaps back up by 4. Martin followed with a double and Blanco’s single up the middle made it 8-2. Ethier opened the 6th with a single and scored when Iglesias doubled to get the Tweeners within 5. Rodon and Verrett blanked Logan County over the last three frames to seal the 8-3 win.
Game 5- The Tweeners loaded the bases with no out in the second but could only play one run. In the bottom of the frame Machado singled and an out later D’Arnaud parked a two-run tater in the left field cheap seats. Cruz singled to open the 4th and Colabello crushed a shot to dead center to put the out of towners on top by a run. Cosart and Phegley hit back-to-back two out doubles in the 6th to pad the lead, and that was all Mad Bum needed as he went the distance with a 5-hit complete game to take the get away game 4-2.
