Tweeners 4, Rhinos 1

From the DVRhino...

Tweeners hose up their draft status even further with a 4-1 whipping of the Rhinos.

Game 1 had 44,846 in attendance as John Lannan and Justin Masterson start their arbitration campaign by combining on a 4 hit, 1-0 shutout.

Game 2 was another defensive struggle which saw the Rhino tandem of CC Sabathia and Joey Devine combining on a 4 hitter for a 2-1 win.

Game 3 finally had a bit more offense as the Tweeners unloaded for an 8-3 win with Jonathan Sanchez scattering 6 hits.

Game 4 was another Tweener offensive showing with a 12-4 pounding of Matt Garza. Shane Victorino tweeted to his faithful followers: “This $hit is too easy”

Game 5 saw Roy Oswalt throw a complete game and strike out 13 as the Rhinos lose 7-4 in spite of hitting 3 home runs. 'Everything felt great' Oswalt said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody today.' Tweener manager Al Davis was quoted as saying “We’ll see how great it feels when he’s on the FFT’s roster, I’ve had enough of his winning ways screwing up my draft position.” The FFTs could not be reached for comment, as it was believed he was still in Columbia South Carolina trying to secure tickets for Ole Miss’ upcoming Independence Bowl appearance.

Rhinos finish at 88-74.

Current Rosters and Draft Picks Now Available

On the main page of the NASOMA.org website, there is now a link (2010 Rosters) that will open a page of the current rosters for next year. If your home page still says 2009 Rosters, hit the refresh button.

At the top, by the team name, is a number representing how many Reserve Spots you own. All of your players - active or not - are listed in alphabetical order. At the bottom of the list, there is a list of the draft picks you own. The first cell shows the rounds (1-10) where you still have your own pick - at this point everybody still owns all of his picks from round 11 on. The cell below it lists any additional picks you have obtained.

Just for bookkeeping purposes, I have moved the Inmate 2nd and the Wahoo 3rd from the Tweeners to the FFTs - although those picks could end up being the Tweener 2nd and Buckeye 3rd - based on the most recent trade between the Tweeners and FFTs.

As always, if I have made any mistakes, I'm sure you'll let me know.

If you want me to post the rosters in excel format for you to download, let me know.

Trade

The FFTs traded Felix Hernandez, Adam Wainwright, Brendan Harris and their 1st round pick to the Tweeners for Stephen Strasburg, Roy Oswalt, Aaron Harang, Kenshin Kawakami, a reserve spot, the Wahoo 1st round pick, the Tweener or Inmate 2nd round pick (whichever is earlier), and the Buckeye or Wahoo 3rd round pick (whichever is earlier).

Games

Tweeners 4, Pastas 3

From Logan County...
Tweeners continue to jeopardize draft position by winning more than losing. Not much offense by either team in this series; Zaps out-homer us 10 to 5, out-score us 29 to 27, and drop 4 of 7 games. One of our best offensive innings featured back-to-back "Alex Gordon X" rolls, which resulted in single+1-base error followed by single+2-base error. Our 11 inning win in game 6 was due in no small part to the "Jose Reyes X" single+error in the 11th inning. A "Connor Jackson X" result of "batter and all runners score" was also helpful. Thanks Hal.

Fungoes 3, Killer Bees 2

From the Fungus...
Fungoes and Bees finished off their season series at Fungoland [last] night.
Bees win game 1, 4-3 in 10 innings:
First baseman Mark Teixeira had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the PHILLIP Killer
Bees topped the DEREK FUNGOES in 10 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at Pac Bell
Park.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. PHILLIP won the hard fought contest in
the 10th inning. Robinson Cano doubled. Ramon Hernandez stepped up next and
he doubled. Two outs later Teixeira was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. PHILLIP had only 6 hits for the game.

The win went to Robinson Tejeda(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
David Robertson(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. When questioned,
PHILLIP's manager remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good -
heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!'
Game 2 went to the Fungoes 3-1:
In a game for the baseball purist, Mike Mussina(13-11) and Chris Young(2-2)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, DEREK FUNGOES finally emerged
victorious over PHILLIP Killer Bees, 3 to 1.

DEREK tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. That early run support
was enough for Mussina and DEREK. Mussina was helped out by Jonathan
Papelbon who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 26th save.
Game 3 went to the Fungoes by the same 3-1 score:

At Pac Bell Park, the DEREK fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Scott
Olsen(14-13) finally bested his PHILLIP opposite, Justin Verlander(2-1), by
the score of 3 to 1.

DEREK jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring a single
run. DEREK had just 5 hits for the night.

Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 27th save. Verlander was hit with the loss.
He gave up 5 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.

Game 4 was a Bee victory, 3-2 in 10 innings:
30,072 fans were treated to a fine game at Pac Bell Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The PHILLIP Killer Bees won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. PHILLIP won the hard fought
contest in the 10th inning. Willie Harris drew a walk. Harris was running
on the next pitch and he stole second. Miguel Tejada then was walked
intentionally. Robinson Cano was up next and he drew a walk to load the
bases. Ken Griffey Jr struck out, unable to help the rally. Skip Schumaker
added to the uprising and hit a sacrifice fly. PHILLIP had 10 hits for the
night while DEREK had 4.

The win was credited to Dennis Sarfate(4-2) who went 2 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Robinson Tejeda earned his 2nd save. David Robertson(2-3)
suffered the loss in relief.

Game 5 was another extra inning contest with the Fungoes pushing across a 12th inning run for the win:

Right fielder Nelson Cruz cleared the bases with his grand slam as the DEREK
FUNGOES topped the PHILLIP Killer Bees in 12 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at
Pac Bell Park.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. DEREK came out on top
in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Cesar Izturis laced a
base-hit. Izturis stole second with some aggressive base running. Grady
Sizemore then drew a walk. One out later, Lance Berkman came up and he drew
a walk to load the bases. Cruz came to the plate and lined a single making
DEREK the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. DEREK had a
total of 15 hits for the game.

Ryan Rowland-Smith(3-1) allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, and picked up
the victory. Robinson Tejeda(2-1) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 1

Inmates 4, Killer Bees 1

From the BeeBoy...
Ankiel sure likes my park, he pounded out 5 HRs in 5 games. Inmates take 4 of 5 from the Bees at the Hive. We sure suck this year and are looking forward to 2011.

Warpigs 2, Killer Bees 0

From the BeeBoy...
(The Pigs) won both of them; the second game was a little more interesting than the first, even though I only had 2 hits I had a chance to win it with Pena at the plate and a man on first in the 9th.

11. Drillers - 432 - Needs hot finishes from the Rays, Twins, Mets, and Brewers.
12. Nads - 431 - The only team to take the Rangers, but it's the D-Back pick that killed him.

Inmates 4, Nads 3

From The HEAD INMATE...
Inmates continue their run to totally fuck up the season and the draft by taking 4 of 7 from the Nads at the Baptist Bowl.

Game 1 – Inmates tie game in 7th only to have Perez throw six pitches – two taters and a walk – to lose the game 7-5.

Game 2 – A see-saw battle. Inmates are ahead after 7, but Mr. Immolation Perez enters the game and allows a double, triple, and homer in one IP to hand the Nads a 9-8 victory.

Game 3 – This time Carlson ignites the Nads (?!?!), allowing a two-run blast in the 8th to allow the Nads to win 5-3.

Game 4 – Vintage Santana throws a 5-hit shutout. The Inmates finally win a game, 1-0.

Game 5 – Another close game, but David Murphy’s 2-run double in the 7th pushed the Beakless Chicken Gang over the top, 10-8.

Game 6 – Inmate pitchers combine on a 4-hitter and win 4-2.

Game 7 – The prophylactic game. Inmates almost waste 5-0 lead, but Lind hits two triples and Francisco saves a 6-5 win.

Inmates are now 56-84.

Games

Inmates 4, Killer Bees 1

From The HEAD INMATE...
At the Baptist Bowl, the Inmpotentmates take 4 of 5 from the Killed Bees.

Game 1 had Ryan Howard hitting a grand slam for all the Inmate runs, while the Bees out-hit the Baptist Bowlers 8-4 as the Inmates won 4-1.

Game 2 had the Inmates holding on for a 6-5 win with Francisco getting a rare save.

Game 3 saw the Inmates enter the last of the 9th trailing 6-5, but 3 singles, a walk, and Jojima’s 2nd error of the game iced it for the Beakless Chicken Gang.

The Bees avoided a sweep by holding the Inmates to 4 hits while scoring a 5-2 victory in game 4.

Brett Myers tossed a complete game 3-hitter in the series finale as the Inmates won 7-1.

Inmates are now 52-81 and trying desperately to lose the first pick of the draft…

Warpigs 2, Wahoos 1

The Pigs and Hoos squared off for three face to face dice games at the BallPork.

Game 1 - Warpigs won 9-1 - The much maligned Ervin Santana (16-8) went the distance, scattering 4 hits. Albert Pujols hit his 40th homer of the year, and Miguel Olivo went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

Game 2 - Wahoos won 7-2 - The even more maligned Fausto Carmona threw a complete game 3-hitter for the Hoos. Aramis Ramirez homered off of starter and loser Justin Duchscherer (18-2).

Game 3 - Warpigs 4, Wahoos 3 (12 innings) - The game was 2-2 into the top of the 8th when Jimmy Rollins homered off of Joakim Soria. In the bottom of the inning, though, Chipper Jones matched him with a homer of his own off of Carlos Marmol. In the top of the 12th, DH-turned-LF Manny Ramirez threw out the go ahead run at the plate; then in the bottom of the 12th, Albert Pujols ended the marathon with a 2-out smash off of the Feed Store across the road from the BallPork. Heath Bell (5-0), who had rescued the Pigs in the top of the inning, got the win. Taylor Buchholz absorbed the loss for the Hoos.

Killer Bees 3, Tweeners 1

From the BeeBoy...
Bees take 3 of 4 at the hive. not much else to report, both teams pretty much played like shit.

Games

Sidewinders 3, Rhinos 2

The Sidewinders finish their regular season as the champs of the Ab Wheeler Division.

From the Snakeman...
The snkaes go 3-2 at home vs the genuine faux rhinos to finish the season 88-75. This is the 5th consecutive year in the playoffs and we have nothing to show for it.Well at least I can look forward to tamales and beer in the PigSty.....
1. snakes get to A.J early and hold on for victory
2. snakes win a close one 3-2. Pen pitches 5 scorless innings
3. snakes win on a jack wilson safety squeeze in the 13th
4. AJ exacts revenge and rhinos win 7-3. Polanco goes 4-4
5. Sheets pitches 7 strong innings for the victory. Hanley Ramirez hit a 2 run HR off Jimenez.

Stats to arrive soon on papyrus covered with charcoal chicken scratch

First Time For Everything

The FFTs are the first team in NASOMA history (as far as I can tell), to go thru a season without rolling dice a single time.

If the Rhinos are unable to attend the playoffs for face to face games, they will join the FFTs in this record.

And oddly, if the Rhinos ARE able to make it to the playoffs and get to the second round, it will be the first time a team played more post season face to face games (minimum of 8) than regular season face to face games (7).

Games

DVs 4, SuperGoofs 1

From the DViasco...
DVs take 4 of 5, getting the first 4 and having the Halladay Fiasco and his 24-5 record on the bump for game 5. Of course the Goofs took game 5 in complete unrealistic fashion, pulling Zito in the second, and Torii Hunter hitting 2 homers off of The Fiasco. The Goofs wait 147 games before realizing they had a fully rested bullpen as they utilized Broxton, Adams, Hoffman, Brocail and Affeldt for 29 1/3 of the 41 innings in the series.

The DVs move to within 3 games of the Drillers in the NERDD. The DVs have 30 games remaining; the Drillers have only 8 - all vs the DVs.

Standings Update 9/1/09

Three of the division winners have been settled, with the Warpigs in the BUD, the Buckeyes in the MFD, and the Sidewinders in the AWD having separated themselves from the pack. In the NERDD, the Drillers have a 4.5 game lead over the DVs, but the DVs have 35 games remaining - including 8 head to head with the Drillers. It will be interesting to see if the DVs can make those last 8 important or if this is to be known as the Halladay Fiasco.

The Wild Card teams are probably locked in as well. The Rhinos and Wahoos have emerged from a group of about 5 contenders and should get the 5th and 6th seeds in the post season.

Two teams have finished their seasons, and four more are down to fewer than 10 games remaining.
