Games

Fungoes 3, Killer Bees 2

From the Fungus...
Fungoes and Bees finished off their season series at Fungoland [last] night.
Bees win game 1, 4-3 in 10 innings:
First baseman Mark Teixeira had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the PHILLIP Killer
Bees topped the DEREK FUNGOES in 10 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at Pac Bell
Park.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. PHILLIP won the hard fought contest in
the 10th inning. Robinson Cano doubled. Ramon Hernandez stepped up next and
he doubled. Two outs later Teixeira was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. PHILLIP had only 6 hits for the game.

The win went to Robinson Tejeda(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
David Robertson(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. When questioned,
PHILLIP's manager remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good -
heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!'
Game 2 went to the Fungoes 3-1:
In a game for the baseball purist, Mike Mussina(13-11) and Chris Young(2-2)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, DEREK FUNGOES finally emerged
victorious over PHILLIP Killer Bees, 3 to 1.

DEREK tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. That early run support
was enough for Mussina and DEREK. Mussina was helped out by Jonathan
Papelbon who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 26th save.
Game 3 went to the Fungoes by the same 3-1 score:

At Pac Bell Park, the DEREK fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Scott
Olsen(14-13) finally bested his PHILLIP opposite, Justin Verlander(2-1), by
the score of 3 to 1.

DEREK jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring a single
run. DEREK had just 5 hits for the night.

Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 27th save. Verlander was hit with the loss.
He gave up 5 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.

Game 4 was a Bee victory, 3-2 in 10 innings:
30,072 fans were treated to a fine game at Pac Bell Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The PHILLIP Killer Bees won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. PHILLIP won the hard fought
contest in the 10th inning. Willie Harris drew a walk. Harris was running
on the next pitch and he stole second. Miguel Tejada then was walked
intentionally. Robinson Cano was up next and he drew a walk to load the
bases. Ken Griffey Jr struck out, unable to help the rally. Skip Schumaker
added to the uprising and hit a sacrifice fly. PHILLIP had 10 hits for the
night while DEREK had 4.

The win was credited to Dennis Sarfate(4-2) who went 2 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Robinson Tejeda earned his 2nd save. David Robertson(2-3)
suffered the loss in relief.

Game 5 was another extra inning contest with the Fungoes pushing across a 12th inning run for the win:
