Warpigs 3, FFTs 1

All games at The Grove via TeamViewer.

July 11 - Warpigs win 7-6. A 4-run Pig 1st inning turned out to almost not be enough. The FFTs stormed back with 2 homers off of Michael Wacha and another off of Pedro Strop. J.T. Realmuto hit the Strop homer in the 8th inning to get the FFTs within 1. Troy Tulowitzki had bounced into 2 in front of Realmuto, or the damage would have been worse. And when the FFTs tired Strop in the 9th with a single by Miguel Cabrera, Brandon Maurer was forced to come in and try to save the game. J.J. Reddick welcomed Maurer with a double to center. Miggy tried to score on the play, but A.J. Pollock nailed him at the plate for the second out. Yunel Escobar grounded weakly to end the game, giving Maurer his 6th save of the year. Wacha, who pitched like crap, got the win anyway to get to 7-3. Darrin Ruf was the hitting star, going 3-5 with a double and home run. Ruf drove in 4.

July 12 - FFTs win 5-4. A reverse of the previous day, the FFTs put up a 5-spot early and hung on. Chi Chi Gonzalez, who has struggled this year, was up to par today for the win. The Warpigs outhit the FFTs, 7-6, but a 3-run homer by Hunter Pence spelled doom for losing pitcher Mike Leake (8-6). Miggy Cabrera also homered for the FanTastics. Martin Prado homered for the visiting Pigs. Adam Warren earned the save. An interesting situation developed in the 7th inning of this game: a poker game broke out. Both managers exited TeamViewer to participate in a poker game online. Following our dismissal from the card game, play was resumed at The Grove.

July 13 - Warpigs win 2-1. The pitcher's duel between Jaime Garcia and John Lackey felt like a BallPork game. The winning run scored in the 6th when Ender Inciarte singled with 1 out, stole 2nd, and scored on Francisco Cervelli's single. Garcia (8-5) went 7 innings for the win. Darren O'Day notched his 5th save. The Pigs outhit the FFTs 11-6. Side note... the Pigs lost a run in the 4th inning when Andrelton Simmons was thrown out at the plate. The safe chance was 1-13. The die roll was 13, but the catcher "blocked the plate" to deny the run. How is this still something Strat won't let us turn off? Blocking the plate isn't even allowed anymore!

July 14 - Warpigs win 11-0. Garrett Richards (9-6) threw the complete game shutout, allowing only 5 singles and a walk. All 5 FFT hurlers gave up at least 1 run as the Pigs exploded for 15 hits. Prince Fielder had 3 of them. Lorenzo Cain doubled and homered, driving in 3. Martin Prado also collected 3 RBI.

Okay, so I had played just okay in the poker game. 2 of the 6 players were already out - and I ousted 1 of them. I had the smallest stack, but not by a lot. I had more chips than I started with. But in my last hand, I had a pocket 10 when the flop came 10-9-9. I made a moderate bet. The chip leader at the time stayed with me. Another 9 came on the turn. Full house, 9s over 10s. I bet more. He stayed with me, so I'm thinking he must have a pocket pair, and if they are face cards, I'm in trouble. But not to worry, the river brought another 10. Now my full house is 10s over 9s, and his pocket pair can suck it. All in. He calls. He didn't have a pocket pair. He had the fourth 9. Ugh.
I finished 4th. FFTs lasted longer, coming in 3rd.
