Games

Tweeners 4, Nads 1

From Al...

Tweeners continue their recent warm streak while eroding 2010 draft position. The first 3 games of this series, the teams alternate ass-whuppin's, as Tweeners win 12-1, Nads win 10-2, and Tweeners win 7-0. It felt strangely like we were in the front row for a WWE undercard. Things tightened up in game 4, as the NORM faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel.
Aaron Harang(7-13) finally bested his DAVE counterpart, Joe Saunders(5-2), by
the score of 2 to 1.

NORM had 1 run cross the plate in the 7th inning. After an out was recorded,
Cody Ross doubled. One out later, Saunders came up and he fired a sharp
breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by
him and was ruled a passed ball. DAVE had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.

Harang got help from Francisco Cordero who earned his 16th save. Saunders
ended up with the loss. He gave up only 3 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.

DAVE's manager was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!' Well, when tomorrow came, Brian Roberts launched 2 home runs and had 3 RBI at Tweeners where the NORM
TWEENERS beat the DAVE NADS by the score of 6 to 3.

Roberts enjoyed a big day at the plate. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st
inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 11th of the season) in the 3rd
inning. NORM out-hit DAVE for the game, 9 hits to 6.

The win was credited to Jonathan Sanchez(6-10) who went 6 innings allowing 2
runs. Brandon Morrow got the save, his 8th. Chan Ho Park(0-1) took the loss.
He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 8 innings of work.

The NORM ballclub's record now stands at 53-73. DAVE's manager was unhappy
with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said.
'It gets to be embarrassing after a while. We sure miss Sammy Sosa.'

Nads hit .189 for the series, but the bigger problem was their 8 errors and general abuse they received from the X-chart.

TRISTAN was unable to recover after SHAWN went ahead in the bottom of the 3rdinning plating an isolated run. SHAWN finished with 7 hits while TRISTAN ended up with 4. Bush(8-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing no runs. Wandy Rodriguez(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks.

August 21: At Wrigley Field the SHAWN DRILLERS easily handled the TRISTAN VIVAZAPASTAS by the score of 5 to 1. SHAWN started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all Kevin Slowey(11-4)needed. TRISTAN had 10 hits in the game while SHAWN had 7, but SHAWN had the more timely hits. Manny Delcarmen got the save, his 3rd. Zack Greinke(1-1) was tagged with the loss. Lincecum got help from Manny Parra who was credited with his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Paul Maholm(0-3). He allowed SHAWN 7 runs in 3 innings of work.
Only the Fungoes and the Nads are short of 100 games at the moment. Nads had malware issues and lost some data, but he is working to get caught back up. If any of you have an opportunity in the next week to play the Nads or Fungi and help them reach 100 games by August 1, please do so.

The Wahoos have climbed into the driver's seat for the Wild Card. They have a 2 game lead over the Rhinos, a 4 game lead over the DVs, and a 5 game lead over the Zaps. The SuperGoofs and Fungoes have both slipped under .500 and are well back.

By the way, I hear that until your Nads have had malware issues, you ain't really ever suffered.

Games

Lots of activity at the PigSty today. Donuts from Krispy Kreme, kolaches from the Czech Stop, burgers, dogs, and Johnsonville Brats off the grill...

Here are the results of the games...

FFTs 7, Fungoes 4
Warpigs 8, Mavs 2
Warpigs 9, FFTs 1
Inmates 6, Mavs 2
Inmates 7, FFTs 3
Wahoos 8, Mavs 2
Wahoos 3, FFTs 2

Too many games to give a game-by-game run down, but some highlights...

The Warpigs' Justin Duchscherer took a no-hitter into the 9th against the Mavs. The leadoff hitter in the 9th singled on an open triangle reading. It was the only hit for the Mavs. Duchscherer followed with another combined 1-hitter against the Mavs in his next start. He had one more start against the Mavs. He threw 6 inning of 1-hit shutout ball again. The bullpen allowed a second hit in this one. In the three consecutive starts, Duchscherer threw a total of 20 innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs, and 2 walks.

Felix Hernandez of the FFTs had a no-hitter into the 7th vs the Pigs.

The Mavs came into the day 12 games under .500 and went 6-22. That = not good.

The FFTs have only 5 games left in their season.

The fight for the first pick is getting heated. The Tweeners, FFTs, and Mavs are duking it out. The Inmates were in contention but had the bad luck to have a winning day.

Games

Tweeners 3, Drillers 2

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners decide to actually be competitive for a series. Lincecum is too tough in game one as we lose 5-2. In game 2, Jorge de la Rosa goes 7.2 strong innings in his first start of the year as Tweeners win 7-2; Haren surrenders 16 hits in a complete game loss. We move to the August series, and get another quality start from de la Rosa in game 3, but Haren is better and Drillers win 5-3. Tweeners then sweep the double-header to claim games 4 & 5. Joe Blanton fans 11 in 7.1 innings as we take the opener 5-1, and Lannan outpitches Parra for a 6-3 victory in the nightcap. Yee haw.

Games

Sidewinders 3, Rhinos 2

From the DVRhino...
SSW’s get ready for their nudist camp trip with a tidy 3-2 at the Rhinos park. I don’t have a lot of details, Urban Cowboy High School Musical was on TV while I was playing, so I was pretty distracted…

Envy Poll

If you could have any hitter and any pitcher in baseball on your team right now - not counting guys you already have - who would you select? Keep your team's needs in mind. I'll go first...

Hitter - My team for next year needs pretty much everything except first base. And even though Hanley Ramirez would be tempting, give me Joe Mauer.

Pitcher - Lots of good ones out there, but I think I'd give Tim Lincecum a slight edge over Dan Haren and Zach Greinke.

Who would you take?

Games

Fungoes 6, Inmates 4

From The HEAD INMATE...

Face-to-face games in Cedar Hill on Friday:

Inmates 6 – Fungoes 1 Vazquez shuts down the Fungoids; Ankiel hits 3-run homer. Inmates dominate.

Fungoes 13 – Inmates 8 Ugliness abounds. Fungoe 8-run 7th seals the deal. Inmates commit three errors and bullpen self-incinerates.

Inmates 5 – Fungoes 0 Wolf tosses 3-hit shutout and Guillen hits 3-run homer.

Fungoes 3 – Inmates 2 (12) Game 1 of the Herman Wheeler Doubleheader is close, well-played, and totally out of character for both teams. Inmates out hit Fungoes 14-7, but can’t hit in the clutch.

Fungoes 11 – Inmates 2 Game 2 is everything Game 1 wasn’t: ugly, poorly played, and not even close. Villanueva allows 9 unearned runs, including a grand slam. Inmates commit three more errors. The only bright thing for the Inmates is the game ended. Fungoes sweep DH.

Fungoes 9 – Inmates 8 Inmates commit 4 errors, the game-winner is unearned, and Saturday morning softball leagues have nothing on this game.

Inmates 2 – Fungoes 1 Santana out-duels Mussina in a classic match-up of team aces.

Inmates 4 – Fungoes 1 Vazquez takes a shutout into the 9th and Daniel Murphy hits a 2-run spud as Fungoe hitters fail to hit for the second straight game.

Fungoes 3 – Inmates 0 Mussina tosses another gem while Inmate defense has 2 more errors.

Fungoes 5 – Inmates 4 Santana gives up a grand slam and gets injured, making the 3 taters hit by the Inmates a moot point.

Inmates now 25-49.

The HEAD INMATE

And from the Fungomer...

Fungoes a Inmates faced off today at The Ballpark at Fungo Field. Here are the results:

Game 1: Inmates score 5 in the first two innings and cruise to a 6 - 1 win. Mike Mussina takes the loss for the Fungi.

Game 3: Inmates shut out the Fungoes winning it 5- 0. Olson gets the loss for the Fungi.

Game 4: Fungoes win this on 3 - 2 in 12 innings. Okajima picks up the win. Berkman legs out a fielders choice for the game winning RBI. This was game one of the Herman Wheeler Double Header Day, and Herman's presence was certainly felt by the Fungoes as they swept the Double Header from the Inmates!

Game 5: Game two of the Herman Wheeler Double Header Day goes to the Fungoes 11 - 2. Volstad picks up the win. Napoli Hits a Grand Slam and a two run Double to lead the Fungoes!

Game 6: Fungoes score a run in the ninth to win this one 9 - 8. Papelbon gets the win for the Fungoes.

Game 7: Inmates win a real pitchers duel 2 - 1. Mussina is the hard luck loser for the No-Go Fungoes

Game 8: Inmates win again 4 - 1. Fungoes hitting goes on strike finally breaking a scoreless innings streak of 15 innings with a lone ninth inning run.

Game 9: Mussina turns the tables on the Inmates, throwing a complete game shutout winnning it 3 - 0.

Game 10: Fungoes pull out to an early 4 -0 lead and then hang on to win it 5 - 4. Olson gets the win and Papelbon picks up the save.

Games

Warpigs 1, Rhinos 0

The Pig/Rhino series was halted after one game today due to a hightened frustration level with Netplay. Now, I may be wrong, but I think having the game on a flash drive might not be the way to go. If losing your game when the drive goes bad (as happened to me earlier) wasn't bad enough, it also slows down the game and is probably responsible for some (but not all) of the snags.

The FungoRhino manager (Fungino?) was probably even more frustrated today, as the Pigs won 17-1. By the end of the 5th inning, three Pig batters were within one hit each of the cycle. None of them achieved that elusive cycle, but Chipper Jones finished 4-5 with two doubles and a triple, Jason Bay was 5-5 with two doubles and a homer, and Stephen Drew was 5-5 with two doubles and two homers. Combined, the three batters scored 10 runs and knocked in 11. Drew knocked in 6 of those. Rich Harden allowed 1 hit over 5 shutout innings for the win.

Demerits

CMs for games that can't or won't be played FTF or via Netplay should have been sent out by now.

Based on earlier emails and reports since then, all I know for sure is that the Zaps owe me a CM. I believe the Snakes are waiting on a Zap CM as well. Also, the Tweeners need to send a CM to the Wahoos and the Nads need to send one to the Snakes. I think the Bees and got theirs taken care of.

Let me know if there are any you are still missing.

Games

Lots of action in Nashville this weekend. Here are the results and the game stories.

Sidewinders 7, Killer Bees 7
Tweeners 8, Sidewinders 6
Killer Bees 2, Tweeners 1

From the Tweeners...

Tweeners, Snakes, and Bees converge on Nashville for the annual visit from the Fungoes. Unfortunately, the Fungoes were unable to attend, so the Tweeners and Snakes rattled the dice for 14 games. Some highlights worth noting:

We started with an extra inning game. Tweeners led 9 to 5 going to the bottom of the 8th, but Snakes score 4 in the 8th and one in the 10th to win 10-9. Tweeners get "Peavied" in game 2, hit into 4 DP's, and lose 4-2. Snakes' bats then go silent as Tweeners then reel off 6 straight wins, starting with a Jonathan Sanchez dice masterpiece at the same time he was no-hitting the Padres in real life. Tweeners post victories by scores of 2-0, 2-1, 5-3, 2-1, 4-2, and 5-4. Snakes break the skid with a 3-2 win, Tweeners win the 10th game 7-5, then Snakes win 3 straight 8-2, 10-3, and 1-0. We finished with a classic 16 inning affair, as Cody Ross doubles home the tying run in the bottom of the 9th, and we wearily roll extra inning after extra inning hoping someone will score. Snakes finally break through with a run in the top of the 16th, but Ross homers to tie it much to the angst of all concerned. Mercifully, Mark Reynolds then drew a walk, and with 2 outs he scored from 1st on a Brian Roberts double (1 to 11 safe chance). With September rosters, Tweeners use every available player except Clayton Richard to win 6-5 and capture the season series vs. the Snakes.

From the Snakeman...
Hoping for a Music City Massacre, the snakes left with a Nashville Flop.
We split 14 with the bees and we win only 6 of 14 against the Tweeners. The tweener series was bookended by 2 extra inning games. The first game went 14 and we won. Trying for a split in game 14, we were up one going into the bottom of the 16th and the Tweeners rally for two and the win.
Snakes suck.....

More from the Tweeners...

Tweeners spend the better part of the weekend at the Bee Hive (or is it the Nest), and manage to find time to play 3 computer games with the host. In the 5/12/09 game, Willie Harris cracked 2 homeruns at Bee's Nest where the PHILLIP Killer Bees
beat the NORM TWEENERS by the score of 7 to 6.

PHILLIP erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
using 2 hits. Ian Stewart started the inning off right when he laced a
single. Aaron Miles stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot
(his 3rd of the season). Robinson Cano then reached on an error. Skip
Schumaker dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Miguel Tejada
got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Harris was
a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Both teams finished the game with 8
hits.

The win went to B.J. Ryan(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Kerry Wood
earned his 2nd save. Justin Masterson(2-5) was the loser in relief. He
pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and no walks.

'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Ryan said. 'It's great to be back on the
winning side of things.'

In game 2, Mark Teixeira had 2 base hits as the PHILLIP Killer Bees beat the hapless NORM
TWEENERS by a score of 3 to 2.

PHILLIP set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner. NORM
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The win went to Justin Verlander(3-0) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings.
Robinson Tejeda recorded his 2nd save. Roy Oswalt(6-12) took the loss. He
gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.

Must Hal continually refer to the Tweeners as "hapless"?

In a tight game 3 it was the NORM TWEENERS 4, the PHILLIP Killer Bees 2 at Bee's
Nest.

Joe Blanton(5-12) had a fairly solid outing. He went 5 innings allowing 5
hits and 4 walks. NORM rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.

Blanton got help from Francisco Cordero who was credited with his 7th save.
Chad Billingsley(0-2) was given the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings
giving up 7 hits and 3 walks.

Tweeners 1, Wahoos 1

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners take the 8/9/09 game 7-5 in 12 innings. We close a 3 run deficit with 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 9th, then Soriano hits a 2-run walk-off homer in the 12th. In game 2, Gil Meche and Roy Oswalt treated the NORM fans to a fine pitching
duel at Tweeners. The GARTH WAHOOS eventually emerged as victors over the
hapless NORM TWEENERS by the score of 3 to 1.

GARTH claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. Dustin Pedroia kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Johnny
Damon next to the plate and he lined a single. Aramis Ramirez then lashed a
single. Milton Bradley followed and he would hit into a force play. That
was all the offense they were to need. Neither team managed to score after
the 4th inning.

Taylor Buchholz gained credit for the save.

Games

Warpigs 3, Drillers 2

Both teams had trouble scoring. Both teams lowered their winning percentage.

4/28 - Pigs win 3-2 - The Pigs rallied in the bottom of the 9th against Joe Nathan, scoring 2 runs for the win. With one run already in to tie the game, Curtis Granderson just missed a walk off grand slam. The ball didn't leave the yard, but with the drawn in outfield, it was good enough for a game winning single.

4/29 - Drillers win 7-5 - The Drillers pounded 5 home runs, 4 of them off of Cliff Lee, including back-to-back-to-back jacks by Ty Wiggington, Carlos Lee, and Vladimir Guerrero. A 9th inning rally brought the Pigs close, but a tired Joe Nathan got out of the jam.

6/10 - Drillers win 3-1 - The Drillers won despite getting only 3 hits. The big hit was a 2-out, bases loaded double in the first inning by Carlos Lee (on a friggin double 1-4, flyout!) James Shields threw 6 innings of shutout ball for the win. Chipper Jones broke up the shutout with a home run off of Scott Linebrink in the 8th.

6/11 - Pigs win 7-0 - In the 5th inning of a scoreless game, the Driller Dude intentionally walked Chris Dickerson with 2 outs to get to Albert Pujols. Albert then hit a 748 ft home run to dead center and ran the bases wagging his finger at the Driller dugout. Chipper Jones then added a homer of his own on the next pitch. Justin Duchscherer and two relievers combined on the 3-hit shutout.

6/12 - Pigs win 4-0 - Jesse Litsch and two relievers combined for a 2-hit shutout, running the Driller scoreless streak to 20 innings. The Pigs stole 4 bases for the second game in a row. The Drillers had only 8 hits in the 3-game homestand as neither team could do much against the other team's pitchers.

DVs 3, Wahoos 1

From the DVs...
DVs take 3 of 4 from the hard luck Wahoos- first 3 were extra inning affairs - DVs won 2 of the 3. Last game was a comfortable DV win behind Derek Lowe.
'Hoos may be the best sub-.500 team in NASOMA history (right behind a few DV vintage squads!).

From the Chief...
I don't understand this. My team is BETTER than his team. We score more runs. We hit more homers. I make ALL the right managerial moves. I just don't get it.

(editor's note: I didn't actually have a quote from the Chief, so I borrowed one from the archives of The HEAD INMATE.)

Rhinos 5, Killer Bees 0

Buckeyes 5, Killer Bees 0

All of these games were played at The Hive as a prelude to the Nashville Weekend. The Bees refuse to concede the first pick in the draft without a fight.

Games

DVs 4, Drillers 2

The DVs moved to within 6 games of the Drillers in the NERDD. They also move to within a half game of the 2nd wild card spot.

From the Driller Dude...

Drillers go 2-4 in an old fashioned NETPLAY series without Himachi. Worked fine.

May 12: Asdrubal Cabrera lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI and Tim Lincecum mowed down 15 BRYAN batters as the SHAWN DRILLERS topped the BRYAN DIAMONDVISION by a score of 4 to 2 at Wrigley Field. Lincecum(5-3) put on a good performance. He didn't give up much, just 8 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings lowering his ERA to 3.71. BRYAN was retired without difficulty in the 9th. Joe Nathan got the save, his 7th. Scott Kazmir(3-4) suffered the loss.Despite losing, he struck out 8 SHAWN batters in 5 innings. 'Everything felt great' Lincecum said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody today.'

BRYAN went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits. BRYAN had 11 hits for the game and SHAWN had 7. SHAWN threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Aaron Cook(5-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.Cook got help from Bobby Jenks who was credited with his 14th save. James Shields(0-4) ended up with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 8innings. SHAWN's manager was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

June 22: Brian McCann smacked 2 home runs and had 4 RBI at Camden Yards where the BRYAN DIAMONDVISION beat the SHAWN DRILLERS by the score of 8 to 3. McCann made sure the BRYAN fans enjoyed themselves. He cracked a solo home run in the 2nd inning and belted a three-run homer (his 11th of the season) in the 7th inning. Overall BRYAN out-hit SHAWN 9 to 6. Roy Halladay(17-3) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. The losing pitcher was Tim Lincecum(5-4). He allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.

June 23: Evan Longoria touched them all and had 3 RBI as the SHAWN DRILLERS beat the BRYAN DIAMONDVISION by a score of 7 to 2. Dan Haren(6-3) gave SHAWN a solid outing. He was reached for 4 hits and 2walks in 6 innings improving his ERA from 3.86 to 3.65. SHAWN finished with13 hits while BRYAN ended up with 6. Aaron Cook(5-8) was the loser. He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 4 and 1/3innings.

June 24: Magglio Ordonez hit one over the fence at Camden Yards where the BRYAN DIAMONDVISION beat the SHAWN DRILLERS in 10 innings 6 to 4. The score was tied at 4 after nine. BRYAN came out the victor in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Ordonez opened up the rally as he singled. Brian McCann came to the plate and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 12th of the season) giving BRYAN the victory as 46,778 happy fans celebrated wildly. Both teams ended up with 12 hits on the afternoon. Bobby Jenks(4-5) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Joe Nathan(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. BRYAN now has a record of46-42. SHAWN has a record of 57-40 after the loss.

Sending CMs

Based on all the emails I've received, the only cases right now of one team needing a CM from another are the following:
Pigs need CM from Bees
Pigs need CM from Zaps
Snakes need CM from Zaps
Snakes need CM from Nads

I'm sure there are more, with the Nads emailing that he knows he has other CMs to get sent out. Let me know if you are in need of instructions from anyone.

Rather than handing out demerits right now, I'm going to delay the deadline until the All Star Game - unless the consensus is that that would be breaking the rules. Get your stuff taken care of. I know we all go through busy, overwhelming times every once in awhile... but you've had since the middle of March to get this taken care of.

Games

Rhinos 5, Inmates 0

From The HEAD INMATE...
Inmates continue to suck, getting blown out in 5 straight by the surrogate Rhinos. Last game was close, with Impotentmates losing on 3-run walk-off tater in bottom of the 11th, 9-6.

Shitfuck.

4/19 - Rhinos win 7-4. Rhinos score 5 in the first off of Javier Vazquez.

4/20 - Rhinos win 6-3. ARod went 3-4 with a homer.

4/21 - Rhinos win 11-3. Johan Santana gets blistered for 9 runs in 4 innings.

7/15 - Rhinos win 12-4. Hanley Ramirez went 3-3 with 5 RBI. Matt Garza threw 6 shutout innings. Vazquez again gave up 5 runs in the first inning. His pregame ritual of getting soused on Tequila, while colorful and interesting, is not appearing to help him much.

7/16 - Rhinos win 9-6 in 11 innings. The Inmates rallied to tie the game in the top of the 9th, but Placido Polanco hit a walk off 3-run homer in the 11th.

The Rhinos hit .361 for the series, with ARod (.563), Polanco (.545), Ethier (.500), Votto (.471), and H.Ramirez (.429) all hitting over .400.

Game reports coming (maybe).

Wahoos 3, Nads 2

Here Comes July

Bees, Fungoes, Wahoos, and Inmates need to get some games played. And several of you need to get CMs sent out in the next few days. I have a feeling we're about to have our first demerits of the year. Don't say you weren't warned!

And just to be clear... if you have future games that will be played using a CM, you must have that CM sent out by July 4th.

If any teams out there are in need of CMs, speak up. I need the Bees and Zaps to each send one to me.

Games

Sidewinders 5, FFTs 2

From the Snakeman...
Game 1 The FFTs torch Danks for 9ER in 3 IP and hold on for the 10-9 victory.

Game 2 Snakes win 10-5 with the help of 8 walks by FFT pitching

Game 3 Regulation ends tied at 2. A Mauer single knocks in Bruce in the bottom of the 17th for the win.

Game 4 KRod enters the 9th with a 1 run lead and has a total meltdown. Pudge hit a 3 run HR and the FFTs win 10-7.

Game 5 Snakes win 4-1. Zambrano goes 7 and Bruce homers.

Game 6 Danks gets his shit together and shuts down the FFT bats this time. Snakes win 11-4 and draw 12 walks. Liriano takes the loss.

Game 7 Ted Lilly gets his first start of the year in the second game of the DH. He pitched 8 strong innings allowing 3 runs. Iwamura and Cantu homer for the FFTs. FFT pitchers again are generous with the free passes. The SSWs draw 9 walks and allow none. FFTs pitching coach Burt Hooton discusses hari-kari with the Japanese half of the FFT squad....

Fungoes and Nads faced off at Fungo Field today with the Nads winning 3 of 5. Here are the highlights:

Game 1: Fungoes win this one 4-2. Mussina picks up the win and Papelbon the save. Arroyo takes the loss. 'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Mussina, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Game 2: Nads win 4-3. Saunders picks up the win and Saito the save. The loss goes to Volstad. Saunders took a shutout into the ninth as the Nads held on for the one run victory.

Game 3: Nads score two runs in the top of the ninth to win 5-4. Grilli gets the win in relief of Saunders. Saito gets another save. Papelbon takes the loss. 'The only way this one could have been better', said Grilli, 'was if we had played it at home.'

Game 4: Nads unleash a 17 hit attack and win this one 11-2! Left fielder Josh Willingham cracked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI for the Nads. Brian Bannister(4-4) allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Bannister got help from Ramon Ramirez who earned his 1st save. Mike Mussina(6-8) was hit with the loss. 'I felt great out there tonight' Willingham said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing, plus you know, the Fungoes got the absolute worst pitching in the league!!!"

Game 5: Scott Olson threw a complete game shutout for the win, winning it 9-0. Fungoes stole 5 bases in the first inning and wound up with 9 steals! 3 each for Span and Figgins. Webb takes the loss.

Games

Tweeners 3, DVs 2

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners take 3 of 5 at the Hooverdome to finish the season 5-5 vs. DVs. How embarrassing for the boys in Tulsa. Oswalt goes the distance with no walks, 10 K's in game one, but we had to win it for him in the bottom of the 9th. With 2 outs Corey Hart missed the HR 1-9 walkoff chance, settling for a double. After Shane walked, Soriano connected for the 3-run walk-off. Beckett shut us down in game 2. Blanton and friends combined for a game 3 shutout; most of our offense was generated by repeatedly rolling the 6-10 double on Kazmir's card. Lannan outpitched Lowe for a 5-3 win in game 4. Harang can't match Halladay in game 5.

Warpigs 2, Nads 1

Game 132 - Pigs win 4-3 with a walk off single by Curtis Granderson thru the drawn-in infield. Ryan Dempster took the loss.

Game 133 - Nads win 7-5. Ervin Santana took another beating. Bronson Arroyo wasn't much better. Granderson came up in the 9th with a runner on first and no outs vs Takashi Saito, and even got a roll in his column... but it was the gap gbA. Roy Corcoran got the win in relief. Saito earned the save. Manny Ramirez homered twice for the Pigs.

Game 134 - Pigs win 4-2. The Nads homered twice in the first inning against Cliff Lee, but were shut out the rest of the way. The Pigs turned four double plays. Joe Saunders took the loss. Joakim Soria got the save.

DVs 2, Wahoos 1

I know nothing.

Deadlines

Just a reminder...

All teams must have at least 75 games played by July 1.

Also...

Games

Warpigs 5, Fungoes 2

The home team won all 7 games today. The Pigs went 7-3 vs the Fungoes this year.

June 7 - Pigs win 5-4 - Jeff Keppinger had a pinch hit RBI single in the 8th to break the 4-4 tie. Mike Napoli hit a 3-run homer in the 2nd inning for the Fungi.

June 8 - Pigs win 13-1 - Mike Mussina gave up 9 first inning runs. Cliff Lee went the distance for the Pigs and Keppinger had 4 hits.

July 19 - Pigs win 6-4 - Curtis Granderson and Jason Bay both homered in the win.

July 20 - Pigs win 6-4 - Albert Pujols and Chipper Jones hit back-to-back doubles in a 3-run bottom of the 8th against Jonathan Papelbon, leading the Pigs to a come from behind victory.

July 21 - Pigs win 9-4 - The Pigs scored 9 runs on only 7 hits.

September 2 - Fungoes win 6-2 - A 4-run 3rd against John Lackey put the Fungoes ahead to stay. Nelson Cruz homered for the Fungi.

September 3 - Fungoes win 5-2 - Scott Olsen beat the Pigs for the second time this season. Denard Span broke a 2-2 tie in the 7th with a 2-run single. Pig cleanup hitter Chipper Jones said, "To be honest, we just got tired from running around the bases in those first five games. Plus, the Fungoes are a quality club. It's not like playing the DVs, where we can win without even trying. Seriously, it's a bitch to beat the Fungoes, while the DVs ARE our bitches. "

SuperGoofs 5, Rhinos 2
Rhinos 3, Buckeyes 2

So in an ongoing effort to screw myself out of a playoff spot, while also not helping the psuedo-Rhinos any closer to a spot, the Goofs take 5 of 7 and the Rhinos win 3 of 5 from the Buckeyes. Rhinos scored more runs (20) in the 5 games vs. the Buckeyes than in 7 with the Goofs (18). SuperGoofs ace Mark Guthrie won two games, including a combined 2 hitter with Broxton. Only notable item in the Buckeyes series was that it ended in time for me to watch the Rangers lose to the Astros (Andrus was on base 3 times). DVs

Games

Drillers 3, Rhinos 2

From the RhinoSub...
Drillers take 3 of 5 from the pseudo-Rhinos. Lincicum wins 2 of the first 3 as the Rhinos rally to take the last 2 of the series. Nothing like helping the hated Drillers.

Games

SuperGoofs 4, Tweeners 1

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners now 21-52, anticipating good draft position in 2011 as well as 2010.

The Goofs leapfrog the Rhinos into 2nd place in the BUD.

Warpigs 2, Wahoos 1

Game 1: Justin Duchscherer and the Pigs win 10-3. Ryan Doumit homered and Rafael Furcal had a 3-run double. The Pigs walked 11 times in the game. The Wahoo batters had 7 innings without a baserunner. And if not for a 2-out walk in the 9th, would have done it 8 times.

Game 2: Pigs win 6-1 behind John Lackey. Curtis Granderson went 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.

Game 3: Wahoos win 5-4 in 12 innings. The Pig defense sucked this game. The first 3 Wahoo runs scored on a Dustin Pedroia bases-loaded triple to Manny Ramirez, playing his first game of the year in LF. Then the winning run scored from second on a single and error on a ball hit to Rafael Furcal. Taylor Buchholz went the last 3 1/3 innings for the win.

And I know most of you know this, but just a reminder... every time there are games listed on here, the standings page on Nasoma.org is updated.

Games

The Rhinos swept a 5-game series against the Nads.

Rhinos scored 3 runs in one game, then 6 or more in the other 4, while the Nads totaled 9 runs in the 5 games while hitting .198. It helped the Rhino cause that Webb didn’t have a starting assignment.

The Rhinos are now 34-30 and in 2nd place in the BUD.
