Sidewinders 7, Killer Bees 7
Tweeners 8, Sidewinders 6
Killer Bees 2, Tweeners 1
From the Tweeners...
Tweeners, Snakes, and Bees converge on Nashville for the annual visit from the Fungoes. Unfortunately, the Fungoes were unable to attend, so the Tweeners and Snakes rattled the dice for 14 games. Some highlights worth noting:
We started with an extra inning game. Tweeners led 9 to 5 going to the bottom of the 8th, but Snakes score 4 in the 8th and one in the 10th to win 10-9. Tweeners get "Peavied" in game 2, hit into 4 DP's, and lose 4-2. Snakes' bats then go silent as Tweeners then reel off 6 straight wins, starting with a Jonathan Sanchez dice masterpiece at the same time he was no-hitting the Padres in real life. Tweeners post victories by scores of 2-0, 2-1, 5-3, 2-1, 4-2, and 5-4. Snakes break the skid with a 3-2 win, Tweeners win the 10th game 7-5, then Snakes win 3 straight 8-2, 10-3, and 1-0. We finished with a classic 16 inning affair, as Cody Ross doubles home the tying run in the bottom of the 9th, and we wearily roll extra inning after extra inning hoping someone will score. Snakes finally break through with a run in the top of the 16th, but Ross homers to tie it much to the angst of all concerned. Mercifully, Mark Reynolds then drew a walk, and with 2 outs he scored from 1st on a Brian Roberts double (1 to 11 safe chance). With September rosters, Tweeners use every available player except Clayton Richard to win 6-5 and capture the season series vs. the Snakes.
From the Snakeman...
Hoping for a Music City Massacre, the snakes left with a Nashville Flop.
We split 14 with the bees and we win only 6 of 14 against the Tweeners. The tweener series was bookended by 2 extra inning games. The first game went 14 and we won. Trying for a split in game 14, we were up one going into the bottom of the 16th and the Tweeners rally for two and the win.
Snakes suck.....
More from the Tweeners...
Tweeners spend the better part of the weekend at the Bee Hive (or is it the Nest), and manage to find time to play 3 computer games with the host. In the 5/12/09 game, Willie Harris cracked 2 homeruns at Bee's Nest where the PHILLIP Killer Bees
beat the NORM TWEENERS by the score of 7 to 6.
PHILLIP erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
using 2 hits. Ian Stewart started the inning off right when he laced a
single. Aaron Miles stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot
(his 3rd of the season). Robinson Cano then reached on an error. Skip
Schumaker dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Miguel Tejada
got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Harris was
a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Both teams finished the game with 8
hits.
The win went to B.J. Ryan(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Kerry Wood
earned his 2nd save. Justin Masterson(2-5) was the loser in relief. He
pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and no walks.
'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Ryan said. 'It's great to be back on the
winning side of things.'
In game 2, Mark Teixeira had 2 base hits as the PHILLIP Killer Bees beat the hapless NORM
TWEENERS by a score of 3 to 2.
PHILLIP set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner. NORM
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win went to Justin Verlander(3-0) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings.
Robinson Tejeda recorded his 2nd save. Roy Oswalt(6-12) took the loss. He
gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.
Must Hal continually refer to the Tweeners as "hapless"?
In a tight game 3 it was the NORM TWEENERS 4, the PHILLIP Killer Bees 2 at Bee's
Nest.
Joe Blanton(5-12) had a fairly solid outing. He went 5 innings allowing 5
hits and 4 walks. NORM rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.
Blanton got help from Francisco Cordero who was credited with his 7th save.
Chad Billingsley(0-2) was given the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings
giving up 7 hits and 3 walks.
Tweeners 1, Wahoos 1
From the Tweeners...
Tweeners take the 8/9/09 game 7-5 in 12 innings. We close a 3 run deficit with 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 9th, then Soriano hits a 2-run walk-off homer in the 12th. In game 2, Gil Meche and Roy Oswalt treated the NORM fans to a fine pitching
duel at Tweeners. The GARTH WAHOOS eventually emerged as victors over the
hapless NORM TWEENERS by the score of 3 to 1.
GARTH claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. Dustin Pedroia kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Johnny
Damon next to the plate and he lined a single. Aramis Ramirez then lashed a
single. Milton Bradley followed and he would hit into a force play. That
was all the offense they were to need. Neither team managed to score after
the 4th inning.
Taylor Buchholz gained credit for the save.
