Big Innings takes a look at the four divisions to see what each team has and where each team will finish.
In 2015, the AWD sent two teams to the playoffs - and one went to the World Series. The Goofs were the surprise team to make the post season where they lost to their AWD brethren, the Sidewinders. The Snakes then went to the World Series, where they blew a 3-1 lead in what Bob Costas referred to as the "greatest blow job in NASOMA history." What lies in store for the AWD in 2016? Will the Snakes repeat as division champs? Will they return to the World Series for the third straight year? And if so, who will kick their ass this time? Can the Goofs get back to the post season? Can the Tweeners ride their starting pitchers to the playoffs? Can the Bees field a team? Read on, faithful readers...
Starting Pitching:

The Tweeners continue to have the best rotation in the division with Gray, MadBum, King Felix, and Miller. The Snakes have pared their rotation down to just the top 3: Sale, Cueto, and Lester. Still pretty dang good. The Goofs have 2 aces in deGrom and Tanaka, but not much else. The Bees are loaded with talent (Teheran, Zimmermann, Jose Fernandez, AWood), but they're all coming off either injuries or so-so years.
Bullpen:
1. Sidewinders
2. Goofs
3. Tweeners
4. Bees
The Sidewinders (Davis, Miller, Kimbrel, Chapman) have the best pen in NASOMA again (although the Wahoos could argue this point). The Goofs are a long way behind the Snakes, but still better than the Tweeners or the Bees. In fact, the Bees have no relievers right now.
Catcher:
1. Vogt/Gomes, Tweeners
2. Grandal, Sidewinders
3. Chirinos, Bees
4. Salty/Rivera, Goofs
Not exactly a stellar group. When the "run on catchers" happens, look for these teams to be involved.

Not a lot of difference between these 4 left-handed first sackers, but Belt gets the nod over Freeman.

The Sidewinders had a really good draft last year, getting Dee in the 1st, Wade Davis in the 2nd, and David Peralta in the 3rd. Another reason the Snakes are so good.

3. Freese/Espinosa, Goofs
4. Solarte/Gallo, Bees
Despite anything the Shredder might have come up with, there aren't a lot of 3b who could be ranked ahead of Arenado.

The injury to Iglesias two years ago is probably what cost the Tweeners in 2015. Now he's back. And when the Tweeners lead going to the 9th, he can always pull an "Oiler" and yank his ss-1e16 to bring in his ss-1e10.

Pillar could easily be #2 here. He's the best fielder in the division. Well, until the Snakes bring in Billy Hamilton to pinch run and take his 1e0 out to CF.

3. Choo, Goofs
4. Polanco, Bees
This is the deepest position in the AWD.
Designated Hitter:

Other than Papi, there's no guessing who the DH's will be in the AWD. But Papi will still be #1.

The AWD will have almost half of the 1st round picks. The Snakes have 3 picks in a row near the end of the round. The Bees pick #2, but the Tweeners have picks 10 and 16.

The Snakes will again win the AWD. Only the Tweeners are capable of putting any pressure on them, but they should at least be a favorite for a wild card spot. The Goofs will finish 3rd. 2016 Outlook: Millard Fillmore Division

Last year was not a banner year for the MFD. The division winner was the Zaps, who easily outdistanced a lackluster field. He failed to get the 1st round bye, however, and that was costly when he lost in the 1st round. This year, the MFD houses both the AL and NL MVPs, the AL Cy Young winner, and the NL Cy Young runner-up. So the MFD will be much improved. Are the Zaps still the class of the division? Can the Drillers give them a serious challenge? Are the Mavs primed to play beyond game 162? Will the Buckeyes play game 162 during draft weekend? Read on, faithful readers...

The Zaps have an embarrassment of riches here: Greinke, Scherzer, Kluber, Liriano, Hamels, Rodon. The Drillers are a distant 2nd, and their place here is due almost entirely to Keuchel. 2016 Outlook: Herman Wheeler Division
Big Innings takes a look at the four divisions to see what each team has and where each team will finish. Up first, the HWD.
Last year's division winner was the surprising Inmates, who had a late season surge to not only leapfrog over the Fungoes, but also jump ahead of the Sidewinders and Zaps to earn the #2 seed and a 1st Round bye in the 2015 Playoffs. Their showing there wasn't as positive, as they lost in 5 games to the Snakes.
Will the Inmates repeat? Will the Fungoes ride Trout and Kershaw back to the top? Are all those baby Rhinos ready for some post-season action? Will the Nads lose 120 games and STILL only pick 3rd? Read on, faithful readers...
Starting Pitching:
1. Fungoes
2. Rhinos
3. Inmates

The Fungoes are still tops here, with the always scary Kershaw, Harvey, and Price; but the Rhinos, with Syndergaard, Archer, and Cole, aren't that far behind. The Inmates rely on Salazar, Ross, and Quintana - definitely behind the other two. The Nads have some good young arms, but the only one with a good card has only 27 innings.

This group doesn't have much difference between 1 and 4. The Rhinos only have 2 relievers, but they're both really good.

There's not a lot of offense with this group. Perez and Ramos have the big arms.

Votto is maybe the best in the whole league (if you don't count players with 11 letters in their last name), and while Rizzo usually gets more notice, Hosmer had a better year. Gonzo would be higher than 4 in every other division.

Cespedes will have an interesting card. And even though he can't hit LHP, he's still the best of this group. Gordon and Revere are a virtual tie.

When Trout turns to look at the guys in line behind him, they are too far back to see.

I don't know which of these two Inmates will play RF, but the other one will be the DH - and will be ranked 1st there, too. If Betts has an "up arrow" next to his name, Markakis has the "down arrow."

This is a tough division to predict. The Inmates are the defending HWD champs and will score some runs, but their OB% will be about 5 points higher than their team BA. And their pitching just doesn't measure up. The Rhinos have the most talent, so this could be their year. It will depend, as it has often with the Rhinos, on whether he can avoid the temptation of adding more young studs and draft for need instead. Either way, they'll be better this year. But the pick goes to the Fungoes. With that park and pitching staff, it will be hard to score runs against them. Trout isn't a one-man show - Hosmer, Carpenter, and Betts will help, and Lindor is the best ss the Fungoes have had since Omar Vizquel. The Nads have had some good drafts the last couple of years, but too many injuries have left him with a long year ahead.

New Year's Eve Eve Mock Draft
Here's the first try at a Mock Draft for 2016. It's really too early - as probably half these guys won't even end up being in the first round, but it's fun to take a stab at it.
1. Buckeyes - Stephen Piscotty - Balanced, young, plays multiple positions. Which could be good, because the Buckeyes have holes everywhere except DH. Oops, no, sorry... there's a hole at DH, too.
2. Killer Bees - Kyle Schwarber - The Bees have more holes than the Buckeyes, but will still win 20 more games next year than the shriveled testicle gang. And finish his games 5 months later - but still on time.
3. Warpigs - Matt Duffy - Last year's infield is gone. 2b/ss have been replaced. Now 3b has.
4. Rhinos - Brendan Rodgers - The uncarded "future Tulowitzki" fits the Rhinos perfectly. When asked what direction the Rhinos were headed in 2016, Colonel Rhino said, "It's a hard decision. We'd have to win 40 more games than we're capable of to win our division, but we'd have to LOSE 40 more games than we're capable of to get the first pick from the Buckeyes.
5. DVs - Lance McCullers - The penny-pinching DVs will pull McCullers' dad's old jersey out of storage so they won't have to pay for new lettering.
6. Mavs - Jung-ho Kang - The Mavs were hoping for Duffy, but will settle for Kang. A new post-game award, the "Jung-ho Fan of the Game" is in the works. Everybody will want to be the Jung-ho.
7. Nads - Roberto Osuna - The Nads continue to get better and better and worse and worse all at the same time. Come on, Nadman! Make the playoffs this year! Go Nads!
8. Fungoes - Francisco Rodriguez - For the first time in a long while, the Fungoes don't need a shortstop. Good thing, since there aren't any available. KRod will love saving those 1-0 games for Kershaw, Harvey, and Price.

Deja Vu All Over Again
The only two times since 1991 that the NASOMA World Series went 7 games were 2003 and 2015. And yes, the Warpigs won both - but there were some other similarities that bear mentioning...
In both series, the Warpigs were down 3 games to 1, and in both series they came back to win 3 straight.
Both series had a Game 6 come-from-behind last inning. In both years, the Pigs trailed 2-1 going into their last at bat of game 6. In 2003, the Pigs scored 2 in the top of the 9th to beat the Drillers 3-2. In 2015, the Pigs scored 3 in the bottom of the 12th to beat the Sidewinders 4-2.
In game 6 in 2003, the 9th inning winning runs scored on back-to-back-to-back doubles. In game 7 in 2015, the winning runs scored on back-to-back-to-back doubles.
But here's the weirdest thing... In game 7 in 2003, the key moment was Barry Bonds batting against David Williams with the tying run at 1st and 1 out. The ONLY chance for a double play - other than an x-chance, was a roll of 6-2. And that's what he rolled. In game 6 in 2015, the key moment was Beltre's at bat in the bottom of the 12th. The roll was 6-2 for a ballpark homer. Both key moments came on rolls of 6-2. Weird stuff.

Broken Records
I have updated the pages in the Archives section.
One interesting stat is from the Team Winning Records page, where the Fungoes, after 28 years in the league, have exactly the same amount of wins as losses.
Almost all of the batting record adjustments made for 2015 were for futility. The Buckeyes set new record lows in On Base, Runs Scored, and Hits. They would have set the new low in Batting Average, but the Bees beat them to it. The Buckeyes hit .21975; the Bees hit .21964. The Inmates joined the fun by setting a new league low in Bases on Balls.
The only positive name added to the batting records this year was by Jonathan Lucroy of the Mavs, whose 64 doubles tied for the 5th best single season.
By contrast, pitching records were dropping left and right. The Warpig staff set new league lows in ERA, Runs Allowed, and Hits Allowed. They also demolished the record for Shutouts with 31. The Tweeners tossed 24 shutouts, which would have broken the old record as well. The SuperGoofs broke the top 5 for league bests in ERA and Runs Allowed. The Sidewinder staff broke the league record for most Strikeouts. The Fungoes broke their own record (set last year) for fewest Walks, and they were joined in that category by top 5 performances from the Wahoos, SuperGoofs, and Tweeners. The Warpig staff joined another list by allowing the 3rd fewest homers ever.

Garrett Richards of the Warpigs had the lowest ERA in league history (1.50), and the Tweeners' Felix Hernandez (2.11) also joined the top 5 in the ERA category. Anibal Sanchez of the Wahoos went 17-1 for a winning percentage of .944, besting the .943 that Greg Maddux had in 1997, when he went 33-2. 2015 NASOMA World Series
Game 1 - Sidewinders (Cueto) at Warpigs (Wainwright)
Devin Mesoraco hit a 2-run homer in the 4th inning, and the Snakes hung on to win 2-1. Wade Davis went 2.2 innings in relief for the win. Craig Kimbrel had a perfect 2 innings for the save. The Warpigs could muster only 7 hits. The Snakes only had 4 hits, but the homer was the difference.
Game 2 - Sidewinders (Sale) at Warpigs (Lynn)
Similar to game 1, the Sidewinders got a 2-run homer in the 4th inning (this time by David Ortiz), and let their amazing pitching staff do the rest. Chris Sale went 5 for the win. Davis went 3 innings, and Kimbrel pitched another perfect inning for the save. Snakes win 3-0.
Game 3 - Warpigs (Richards) at Sidewinders (Ross)
It was the Pigs' turn to dominate on the mound. Garrett Richards went 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits. Troy Tulowitzki had 3 hits, 2 RBI, and a stolen base. Lorenzo Cain also knocked in 2. A.J. Pollock went 2-4 with 3 stolen bases. Warpigs win 6-0.
Game 4 - Warpigs (Wainwright) at Sidewinders (Cueto)
The Sidewinders win a close one in walk off fashion. Tied 1-1, Dee Gordon singled to lead off the bottom of the 9th. He stole second and scored the winning run on a single by Michael Brantley. Kimbrel had escaped trouble in the top of the 9th, and got the win. Sean Doolittle took the loss. The Pigs best chance to take control of the game was the 4th inning. A walk and two singles plated the tying run, but Brock Holt lined into a triple play to end the threat in dramatic fashion. The Snakes take a 3 games to 1 lead.
Game 5 - Warpigs (Lynn) at Sidewinders (Sale)
Facing elimination did little to awaken the slumbering Pig bats. Robinson Cano singled in Adrian Beltre in the 2nd inning, but it would be a while before the Pigs scored again. Devin Mesoraco homered in the bottom of the 2nd, and the two teams remained tied going to the 9th. After 2 were out in the Pig half of the 9th, Cory Spangenberg - who was essentially only on the roster as a pinch runner - pinch hit for Lorenzo Cain and launched a solo homer off of Kimbrel. Joe Smith got thru the meat of the Snake lineup for a 1-2-3, 9th inning and the save. The Pigs take the game 2-1 and head back to The BallPork for game 6.
Game 6 - Sidewinders (Ross) at Warpigs (Richards)
Epic. The ending of this game will go down in Pig Lore. The Warpigs scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning on a 2-out single by Yadier Molina. Garrett Richards was outstanding, but the fear of facing Brandon Belt in a 1-0 game led to his exit after 6 innings. He allowed only 2 hits. The Pig pen continued to shut down the Snakes until the 8th when they scratched across the tying run on a SacFly by Billy Hamilton. The teams stayed tied at 1 into the 12th inning (I lost count, but this was the Snakeman's 7th or 8th extra inning game today). In the 12th, the Sidewinders scored on another SacFly, this time by Dee Gordon. The bottom of the 12th started with Aroldis Chapman sandwiching two strikeouts around a Cano single. Yadier Molina, being encouraged by the fans to recall his MVP days of 2 years ago, rolled 2-5, and while it wasn't the homer it was on his old card, it WAS a walk to extend the inning. As Adrian Beltre stepped to the plate, a tired Chapman was replaced by Tony Watson. 2 outs, 2 on, the Snakes leading 2-1 and 1 out away from the title. The roll: 6-2. Ballpark homer 1-4. The roll: ONE! PIGS WIN! PIGS WIN! PIGS WIN! AND WE WILL SEE YOU TOMORROW NIGHT!

Again, the Sidewinder's 4 dangerous lefty bats brought about a Pig pitching change heading into the 6th, and the combination of Loup, Strop, Doolittle, and Smith were up to the challenge. The game stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the 7th. Nick Vincent came on to face a trio of right-handed Pig batters, but Cain, Molina, and Beltre all hit back-to-back-to-back doubles for a 3-1 Warpig lead. And when Joe Smith got Devin Mesoraco to pop out, the celebrating began.

Joe Smith got thru the meat of the Snake lineup for a 1-2-3, 9th inning and the save. The Pigs take the game 2-1 and head back to The BallPork for game 6.
Game 6 - Sidewinders (Ross) at Warpigs (Richards)
Epic. The ending of this game will go down in Pig Lore. The Warpigs scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning on a 2-out single by Yadier Molina. Garrett Richards was outstanding, but the fear of facing Brandon Belt in a 1-0 game led to his exit after 6 innings. He allowed only 2 hits. The Pig pen continued to shut down the Snakes until the 8th when they scratched across the tying run on a SacFly by Billy Hamilton. The teams stayed tied at 1 into the 12th inning (I lost count, but this was the Snakeman's 7th or 8th extra inning game today). In the 12th, the Sidewinders scored on another SacFly, this time by Dee Gordon. The bottom of the 12th started with Aroldis Chapman sandwiching two strikeouts around a Cano single. Yadier Molina, being encouraged by the fans to recall his MVP days of 2 years ago, rolled 2-5, and while it wasn't the homer it was on his old card, it WAS a walk to extend the inning. As Adrian Beltre stepped to the plate, a tired Chapman was replaced by Tony Watson. 2 outs, 2 on, the Snakes leading 2-1 and 1 out away from the title. The roll: 6-2. Ballpark homer 1-4. The roll: ONE! PIGS WIN! PIGS WIN! PIGS WIN! AND WE WILL SEE YOU TOMORROW NIGHT!
Game 7 - Sidewinders (Cueto) at Warpigs (Wainwright)
This is the first Game 7 of the World Series since 2003 and only the second since 1991. Wainwright allowed a 1st inning homer to Brantley, but it was the only hit he allowed in his 5 innings. Lorenzo Cain singled in Pollock to tie the game in the 2nd. Again, the Sidewinder's 4 dangerous lefty bats brought about a Pig pitching change heading into the 6th, and the combination of Loup, Strop, Doolittle, and Smith were up to the challenge. The game stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the 7th. Nick Vincent came on to face a trio of right-handed Pig batters, but Cain, Molina, and Beltre all hit back-to-back-to-back doubles for a 3-1 Warpig lead. And when Joe Smith got Devin Mesoraco to pop out, the celebrating began.

2015 NASOMA Playoffs - Wahoos and Warpigs
Game 1 - Wahoos (ASanchez) at Warpigs (Wainwright)
Warpigs win 3-2 when Justin Morneau gets a +single in the 6th after Tulo tripled. Adam Wainwright went 6 innings for the win. Joe Smith earned the save.
Game 2 - Wahoos (Arrieta) at Warpigs (Lynn)
Warpigs win 4-0, holding the Hoos to 2 hits. Lance Lynn was pulled with 2 outs in the first inning after allowing back-to-back walks and Corey Seager due up. The Pigpen was near perfect the rest of the way, led by Aaron Loup (2 innings), Tom Wilhelmsen (2.1), Darren O'Day (3), and Pedro Strop, Sean Doolittle, and Joe Smith (a third of an inning each).

Snakes 3 – LDMF 2 (11 innings – Baptist
Bowl):
Inmates scored two runs on three hits in the 1st inning giving the
Baptist Bowl faithful a profound case of unwarranted optimism. Little did the
Baptist Bowl Choralaires know that the LDMF would manage a paltry Reddick walk
and a Gattis single as the collective offense the remainder of the game. Extra
innings ensued because the Slithering Slimeballs were unable to generate any of
their own offense beyond a 1-4 double by some nameless bastard, followed
immediately by a 1-3 Dee @#%$^#$#%# Gordon homer in the 3rd to tie
the game. No one knows who scored the winning run in the 11th
because the entire crowd fell asleep due to the huge offensive display by both
teams.
Inmates 5 – Snakes 4 (10 innings –
Baptist Bowl):
The Inmates scored four in the 7th to take a 4-3 lead, only to have
closer Neshek allow an intergalactic bomb to the Serpents’ batboy in the 8th
to send the game into extra innings once again. A two-out rally in the last of
the 10th sent the Screaming Recidivists home with a thrilling win.
After Jones K’d and Ramirez flew out, JD Martinez singled and Escobar doubled
with Martinez beating the 1-12 throw home for the walk-off.
Snakes 9 – Inmates 5
(Church Lot): After the debauchery of the Baptist
Bowl the Inmates were unable to cope with the sanctity of the Church Lot.
Martinez hit the sole tater that would come off an Inmate bat for the entire
series, but Gattis hit into two 5-4-3 DPs to kill rallies and Neshek and Grimm
started fires of their own to allow the game to get away.
Snakes 6 – Inmates 5
(10 innings - Church Lot): In the third
extra-inning game of the series the Inmates pulled a two-spot out of their
asses in the 9th when Martinez hit a two-out two-run double to tie
the game at 5-5. Neshek to the rescue for the Snakes in the 10th,
however, as they walk off with two outs to take a 3-1 series lead.
Snakes 2 – DMF
(Dickless Mother-fuckers) 0 (Church Lot): Pineda tossed a
complete game five-hitter, striking out ten, only to be out-pitched by four
Snake pitchers. Gattis had all two of the DMF hits. Shitfuck. Congrats to Dr.
Serpent and the Venomous Worms for their convincing and well-earned series win.
Final Thoughts:
The luck of the die ran about 50-50, and despite winning four of five the
series was a close one. Both teams got 43 hits in the
series. The Snakes had four stolen bases, the Inmates five. The Snake bullpen
was incredible, and (despite attempts at arson by a couple of Inmates) the
Beakless Chicken Gang’s relievers did OK. The big difference in the series? The
Snakes hit seven homers to the Inmates one. The Inmate Power turned out to be a
paper Tiger (Chicken)…

Goofs win 3-1 in 10 innings - Denard Span slipped a 2-out, 2-run single past Dee Gordon on a 2b-x roll in the 10th. Josh Hamilton homered early for the Goofs. Hutson Street went 3 innings for the win.
Game 2: Goofs (Hughes) at Sidewinders (Sale)
I think I'll blog a little... I'm in the next room listening to the play by play. This will probably be the only game I'll be able to do this.
The Snakes hit 2 solo homers (Belt and Mesoraco) but the Goofs tied it with 2 in the 6th. They're in the 7th now, still 2-2.

Schedule Suggestion
I think it's time we consider moving our end of season deadlines up a month.
If we moved our 162 game deadline to the START of October (maybe the first weekend of October... or to the same day as the end of MLB's regular season), we could play our playoffs in October, with early November being a fall back position. As it is now, we play at the end of November (with Thanksgiving limiting our options) and December is the fall back. In fact, this year the playoffs WILL take place in December.
When I typed this up a month or so ago, I was assuming our draft would be early to mid-March as usual. I'll leave the dates and numbers the same, but I've added a couple of notes to account for the late draft. Here's an example of what I'm thinking...
All deadlines would be the first Sunday of each month at 10:00PM Central time.
2016
20 gms - April 3rd (This will of course be waived, as our draft is in April this year.)
40 gms - May 1st (As we are drafting much later than usual this year, Glenn will probably need to adjust this one.)
60 gms - June 5th
90 gms - July 3rd
120 gms - August 7th
140 gms - September 4th
162 gms - October 2nd
Final Stats due by the end of October.
This isn't all that different from the one now. Instead of the 1st of the month, the date is the first Sunday of each month. And this schedule adds an additional 5 games in the months of April, May, June, and July. The benefit of this tweaking is that we would end our regular season on October 2nd instead of October 31st.

Inmates 5, Rhinos 2

INMATES 9 – RHINOS 0 (Rhino Dome): Heaney, out of necessity, pitched a complete game, 17-hit loss. The Inmates hit five homers, including two by Jones. The Rhinos managed three total hits, all singles.
RHINOS 2 – INMATES 0 (Rhino Dome): In a tit-for tat move, the LDMF showed up to collect a meager four hits off of Chris Archer. Castro tatered on the first pitch in the bottom of the 1st for the only run the Horned Ones needed.
INMATES 3 – RHINOS 1 (Rhino Dome): Adam Jones third HR of the series gave the Inmates the lead in the 6th. Garza pitched a CG tough-luck loss for the Rhinos, who managed only two hits.
INMATES 7 – RHINOS 3 (Baptist Bowl): Adam Jones hit two more homers as the Inmate pitching staff held the Rhinos to only four hits. Ramos pitched four innings for the save.
INMATES 2 – RHINOS 1 (Baptist Bowl): A tight pitchers’ duel with both teams collecting six hits. A Ramirez tater in the 5th turned out to be the winning run for the Inmates.
RHINOS 4 – INMATES 2 (Baptist Bowl): Once again Archer pitched well enough to hold off the Inmate offense. Sanchez struck out six of the eight hitters he faced for the save.
INMATES 6 – RHINOS 5 (Baptist Bowl): The Inmates clinched their first ever 1st round playoff bye in a game that featured two grand slams, one by Gattis for the Inmates and one by Kemp for the Rhinos. The game-winner was a solo HR by Vargas in the 5th.
