Strat-O-Matic has introduced a new Defensive Shift Rule. Please read up on it and discuss. We will need to vote on this new rule at our Draft. It will be employed as a NASOMA rule unless it receives 11 "No" votes at the Draft.

First look I don't really like this rule. It is a step that gets us totally off the hitter and pitcher cards. I know that's the case with bunting or hit and run, however you have a rating assigned to the batter based on performance. This new shift rule makes no performance level adjustment for batter or pitcher. It seems like a quick one size fits all rule that takes away from the statistical realism of the game.
Agreed. I see it as more of a knee-jerk reaction to the sudden abundance of shifts, but it seems to me that the results of those shifts already exist in the batting numbers of those hitters. Plus, like the BK/WP/PB rule, it's another roll of the dice.
Seems to me like the results of the 2016 shifts should already be apparent on the cards, so unless SOM can come up with something better than the "one size fits all" approach I think we should forego using the rule at this time. And, I agree that it takes away from playability by adding another die roll.
