Tweeners 3, Mavs 2

5/2:  The Tweeners miss four ballpark HR’s.  Mavs get one plus a 1-11 by Davis.  King Felix throws a 5-hitter and takes a loss.  The Chico’s Bail Bonds player of the game is Eggs Ackley, mostly so I could say that although he did have two of the five hits and turned a critical DP.  3-0 Mavs

5/3, Game 1 of the Day / Night Double Header because the Mavs are a small market team and need the revenue:  Zach Cozart in the clutch just isn’t a pretty site.  He strands two critical runners in the top of the second.  Meanwhile Marlin Byrd lets a double drop in and throws the ball into the stands and everyone scores.  Then Hal pulls Gio with two out in the second in a 3-2 game.  Will Venable chokes in the clutch in the fifth.  The Tweeners lack the will to win in game one.  Until the top of the ninth.  Ryan Howard hits a homer 1-9 fly off of Sean Doolittle.  And then as luck would have it, defensive replacement Eggs Ackley bats in the bottom of the tenth with the outfield in, the infield in and Sonny Gray calmly saying to himself “it’s only Dustin Ackley” and he gets him on a weak grounder.  Finally in the twelfth because of innings pitched problems the Mavs bring in Garrett Richards and end the game.  Howard wins the Betty’s Brothel Blow of the Game for the two out homer to tie the game in the top of the ninth.  6-5 Tweeners in 12.

5/3, Game 2:  The nightcap was a little more conventional.  Howard goes deep again.  Rat bastard.  But Evan Gattis does too and the Tweeners leave ten runners on base.  MadBum goes the distance in the loss.  I guess because Hal burned through five relievers in game one.  Chico’s Bail Bonds player of the game goes to Howard, not Howie, Kendrick who went two for four (both doubles) and turned in what Hal claimed was a web gem.  And no one argues with Hal.  6-3 Mavs

7/26:  In what was billed as a cruel mismatch in the local press, Jeremy Guthrie took the mound armed with his usual assortment of batting practice pitches against King Felix.  Yan Gomes hits a triple 1 in the fifth and Felix has all he needs.  Felix has 11 strikeouts through five innings.  The Mavs are checking media guides like crazy  14 through 6 innings, could a record be in the works?  Well no, because after two strikeouts in the seventh, King Felix walks three and Hal comes and gets him.  Throwing a 1 hitter with four walks at the time and the aforementioned 16 strikeouts.  No doubt who the player of the game is.  5-0 Tweeners

7/27:  Will Venable of the Tweeners finally gets a BP HR.  But Evan Gattis gets his second of the series.  And then Adam Lind gets one.  And Zobrist tags one off of Homer Allowed Bailey’s card but MadBum faltered and the Mavs rallied.  Tweeners suffered a two out Elvis triple driving in pinch runner Yovanni Gallardo.  In the top of the ninth the gutsy Tweeners hit a one out double.  Steal third and score on a squeeze play.  In the top of the 12th the Mavs have to bring in Robbie Ross for the previously discussed innings problem.  Escaping the 12th, Ross gets tired rather quickly in the 13th and now we’re down to Garrett Richards.  Richards almost escapes the jam but can’t get to a come backer and the Tweeners win as Richards walks in the lead run.  Ryan Howard gets three more hits and wins the Chico’s Bail Bonds player of the game.
