Booting Up

Here's a stat oddity that happened during the Warpig/Inmate series. Thru the first 58+ games of this season, the Warpigs had not commited an error at shortstop - this despite a 2e18 manning the position for all but 1 inning of 1 game. *We had also not made an error by a pitcher. The streak was almost 59 games long - a total of 527.2 innings without an error at shortstop or pitcher. Then, with 1 out in the 7th inning of game 59, Brandon Crawford booted a grounder. The following batter rolled pitcher-x and Tommy Milone made our first pitcher error. Back to back batters, and both streaks were over.

* I don't know the record for number of games/innings for going errorless at shortstop - probably that year Cal Ripken had the low e-rating they created just for him. I do know, however, the record for consecutive games/innings without an error by a pitcher. It is 2,641 games and 25,065 innings by the Killer Bees. The streak is currently active.

They spend their entire spring training on pitcher's fielding practice......

Or having their manager drink beer into oblivion so he doesn't know how to track errors.

How does one "drink beer into oblivion?"

Similar to the practice of law - one case at a time.
