In a series that would make the EQA guys jealous, the Wahoos and DVs staged their version of speed dating, NASOMA style.

Game 1 featured Halladay moving his record to 16-7 with a 3-2 win. Game took 9 minutes

Game 2 was Tommy Hunter going 8 innings, Hawksworth getting the save and the Wahoos winning 4-1. Game took 11 minutes

Game 3 was almost a carbon copy of game 2 as Nolasco goes 8, Hawksworth gets the save and the Wahoos win 4-1. Game took 12 minutes as the DVs actually had 3 pitching changes

You couldn’t eat a Double Dave’s pizza in the time it took to play those games – nor would you want to!

The O-Dog had a great series for the Fungoes against the Tweeners, going 19 for 43.

Pig highlights...
Pujols stayed hot. In 30 games this weekend, he went 43/121 (.355) with 33 runs scored, 35 RBI, 11 doubles, and 19 HR.
Pelfrey threw back to back shutouts against the Tweeners and Bees.
The Snakes and Warpigs played in three 1-0 squeakers (the Pigs won 2 of those) but also had scores of 15-10, 18-12, 13-7, and 8-7 (the Snakes won ALL of those).

The burgers were delicious.
Albert Pujols was on fire today. We played 15 and he went deep in 10 of those.
The Tweeners introduced his new "baby shit" dice.
The Killer Bee dogs are, well, let's say very friendly.
And the Fungoes, while apparently satisfying his own needs upstairs, caused the downstairs light shade to fall. The 1000 pound light bulb cover broke loose and crashed down onto the Pig laptop during our contest, landing on the keyboard and breaking one letter (which I have avoided using so far in this post). It was kinda scary (the Beeboy peed his pants and screeched like a girl).

The Snakes will be here soon.

Breakfast is supposed to be legendary. I can't wait.

It's not easy writing a post this long while avoiding a particular letter.

Gm 1 - Warpigs 6, DVs 3 - Adam Lind, Miguel Olivo, and Curtis Granderson all hit homers and the Pigs rough up Roy Halladay.

Gm 2 - Warpigs 9, DVs 3 - Cody Ross drives in 5 and Cliff Lee goes to 12-4 on the year.

Wahoos at Warpigs

Gm 1 - Wahoos 5, Warpigs 3 - The Wahoos scored single runs in each of the first five innings for the win. Hamels got a complete game victory. The Pigs threatened in the 8th with back to back singles to open the frame, but Akinori Iwamura lined into a triple play to end the inning and any hopes the Pigs had of winning.

Gm 2 - Warpigs 5, Wahoos 4 (10 innings) - The Wahoos hit 2 solo homers in the top of the 9th to take the lead, but Matt Joyce pinch hit a homer in the bottom of the inning to tie it. Albert Pujols led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk off homer.

Gm 3 - Wahoos 5, Warpigs 3 - Same score as the first game. The Wahoos hit 4 solo homers and then hung on for the win.

Inmates and Wahoos finish season series via netplay at the Reservation. Monumental offensive showings in all three games:

INMATES 4 – WAHOOS 0: Chipper hits grand slam in the 7^th after three straight ballpark singles, while Vazquez allows four hits an Ks 12.

WAHOOS 3 – INMATES 2: Inmates hit into 8-2DP in both 1^st and 2^nd innings. Youkilis taters, and the Inmates out-hit the little chiefs 9-5 but lose.

INMATES 3 – WAHOOS 1: Howard hits 2-run tater and Wolf bests Baker, et al, in pitchers’ duel. Wahoos held to 13 hits total in this series.

DVs 3 – INMATES 1 [Hell]: Inmates get three hits in the first but can’t score, while Vazquez and Zavada combine to four-hit the DVs. Inmates still lose.

DVs 12 – INMATES 4 [Hell]: Santana allows seven runs in 1 2/3 innings while Halladay shuts down the Beakless Chicken Gang.

INMATES 10 – DVs 7 [Hell]: Howard and A. Jones both homer twice while the Inmate Arson Squad holds on for a rare win.

DVs 8 – INMATES 5 [Baptist Bowl]: Inmates forge ahead 5-4 in the 6^th, only to have the Immolation Crew allow four DV runs on five hits in the seventh before two were out. Electrolux becomes Inmate team radio broadcast sponsor.

DVs 5 – INMATES 4 (12) [Baptist Bowl]: Inmates head into 9^th holding 4-2 lead with closer Guzman on the hill. Yep, the Flames of Shit arose. DVs score twice to send the game into extra innings. Inmates had two doubles and a single in the first, but could only manage one run, and were held hitless after the sixth.

HAL rolled the last eight between the Drillers and the Inmates. Here are results:

INMATES 4 – DRILLERS 3 [Baptist Bowl]: All of the Driller offense came on a 3-run Johnson spud in the 3^rd. Anderson scatters 5 hits through seven; Howard doubles home the game-winner in the 7^th.

INMATES 9 – DRILLERS 8 (13) [Baptist Bowl]: Marathon attended by 95 faithful Beak-heads at the Baptist Bowl. Inmates pull it out in the 13^th when Chipper Jones singled, Pennington pinch-ran and stole 2^nd, and Molina singled him home.

INMATES 3 – DRILLERS 2 [Baptist Bowl]: Howard hit a 3-run homer in the 1^st and Santana pitched a 2-hitter. Haren was good for the Drillers, allowing only three singles after the first inning.

INMATES 8 – DRILLERS 7 [Drillerville]: Dukes hits a 2-run tater, then tries to make up for it by committing a 2-base AND a 3-base error in the same inning. Inmate bullpen pitched well after Brian “The Self-Immolator” Fuentes tried to give the game away.

INMATES 6 – DRILLERS 1 [Drillerville]: Dunn hits two homers and Vazquez pitches well.

DRILLERS 5 – INMATES 3 [Baptist Bowl]: The Inmates suddenly remember who they are. Dunn hits another tater, but Lincecum K’s 11. Kelly “Babe” Shoppach homers for the Drillers in what was to become the norm for the rest of the series.

SHOPPACH 5 – INMATES 4 [Baptist Bowl]: Shoppach hits two homers and drives in all the Driller runs. Lincecum wins again, and the Beakless Chicken Gang can’t quite catch up.

DRILLERS 2 – INMATES 1 [Baptist Bowl]: Pitcher’s duel between Floyd and Rzepcghiu Rzpgauyrtb Rzpciasx , fuck, forget it. Inmates only get three hits because they can’t even pronounce this bastard’s name.

(Editor's note: While I appreciate The HEAD INMATE adding the home park on each game report, I am having trouble understanding why the Drillers had to play SIX games at the Baptist Bowl. Could it possibly have something to do with turf damage at Driller Park due to the recent TwilightPalooza?)

Matt Garza(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for the Rhinos. He was
reached for 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Garza mowed down 9
Fungi batters.

'I didn't have my best stuff but
sometimes you just get lucky,' Garza said, 'this was one of those times.'

Game 3 Fungoes win in walkoff fashion 4-3.

Sabathia takes the loss while Robertson gets the win in relief for the Fungoes.

Fungoes erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Ryan Zimmerman opened up the rally as he
lined a single. Lance Berkman came to the plate and lined a one-base hit.
Brett Gardner then was hit by a pitch. Grady Sizemore was up next and he
drew a walk. Cesar Izturis stepped into the box and doubled. Fungoes won
despite being out-hit by the Rhinos 8 hits to 5.

Al Kaline, Fungoes manager was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'

Game 4 Fungoes win in 12, 6-4! Rhinos score 1 in the top of the 12th only to have the Fungoes score 3 in the bottom half of the inning.

Thornton gets the loss while Pinto picks up the win for the Fungoes.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Fungoes came out on top
in the 12th inning. Orlando Hudson led off and started the rally when he
banged out a single. Denard Span was next and he delivered a base-hit.
Lance Berkman followed, but he was set down on strikes. Ryan Zimmerman was
next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Cruz stepped into the box
and smacked a three-run homer giving the Fungoes the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd. Fungi hitters banged out 15 hits on the night.

Game 5 Rhinos score first and often running off with a 9-2 win.

Troy Tulowitzki had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the RHINOS defeated the
FUNGOES by the score of 9 to 2 at Pac Bell Park.

A.J. Burnett(1-0) gave JOSE a solid outing. He went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 5 hits and 8 walks. Offensively, JOSE was a juggernaut. They
scored in 6 separate innings.

Game 6 In game 1 of a Day-Night double header, the Fungoes score 6 in the first and hold on in this slugfest winning it 15-8.

Michael Cuddyer ripped 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the FUNGOES outscored
the RHINOS 15 to 8.

Cuddyer had a great day at the plate. He smacked a single in the 1st inning,
ripped a solo home run in the 2nd inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 4th
inning and clubbed a three-run home run in the 7th inning. Fungo bats were
hot in the 1st inning when they had 6 runs on 7 hits. The Fungoes had 20 hits
overall, while the Rhinos had 9.

Clayton Kershaw(3-0) went 5 innings allowing 7 runs for the win. Kershaw got
help from David Robertson who was credited with his 1st save. The loss was
charged to Zach Duke(0-1). He served up 5 gopher balls in 9 innings.

'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park today,' Cuddyer said. 'I'm
glad I decided to play!'

Game 7 In game 2 of the double header the Fungoes break out on top with a 3 spot in the first and then run away with the win 7-2.

Tulowitzki enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He cracked a solo homerun in
the 4th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning. The Rhinos ended up
with 8 hits for the game while the Fungoes had 5.

Game 9 Sabathia shuts out the Fungoes 2-0 allowing only 4 hits.

chances tonight,' Al Kaline said. 'Sabathia just was too much for our
guys. We stunk up the joint tonight'

Game 10 Bergeson, Pinto, and Robertson combine for the shut out for the Fungoes as they win it 4-0.

Matt Wieters had 2 base hits at Pac Bell Park where the FUNGOES beat the

Brad Bergesen(2-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for the Fungoes. He
surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings lowering his ERA from 2.79 to
2.22. the Fungoes managed only 5 hits on the night.

David Robertson recorded the save, his 2nd. A.J. Burnett(1-1) was given the
loss. He gave up 4 runs and 5 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.

Fungoes are now 51-35 on the season.

TWEENERS 4 – INMATES 3: Walk-off victory for the Tweeners due to stellar Inmate defense (Dunn error). Sandoval gets 2-out single to drive in unearned run. Said Inmate manager Mike Schmidt: “!#@$$!#@^$@!”

TWEENERS 13 – INMATES 4: Swisher goes 3-4 with a tater and 2 RBI; Inmates do nothing right.

INMATES 6 – TWEENERS 3: Anderson bests Wainwright this time in complete game victory.

TWEENERS 4 – INMATES 1: No Inmate offense combined with good Tweener pitching result in a snoozer of epic proportions. 260 Inmate fans show up to the game, but only because of the free beer and pizza given away in the 3^rd inning.

Rhinos vs Warpigs

Game 8 - Rhinos 10, Warpigs 3: The Rhinos had like 30 hits and about 12 homers and around 45 stolen bases. C.C. Sabathia went the distance, pitching the last 3 innings right-handed to save his strength for the real teams he might face later.

Game 9 - Rhinos 6, Warpigs 4: This game resembled a real baseball game except for the 5 homers surrendered by Ross Ohlendorf.

Game 10 - Rhinos 7, Warpigs 5: Former Pigs Heath Bell and George Sherrill bent over and took it from behind from their old mates, but that's the only thing that kept this from being another Rhino blowout.

Game 11 - Warpigs 4, Rhinos 3: Cliff Lee gets the Pigs back into the win column and is feeling pretty proud of himself until he hears the Rhino manager say after the game (I shit you not), "This is EMBARRASSING!"

Game 12 - Warpigs 5, Rhinos 2: Sabathia took a no-hitter into the 6th, but Ohlendorf took a no-hitter into the 7th despite Alberto Callaspo at 2b (4e20) and Brandon Woods at ss (3e88).

Game 13 - Rhinos 9, Warpigs 5: The Rhinos finally solve Cliff Lee.

Game 14 - Rhinos 10, Warpigs 2: Hanley Ramirez went 3-3 with a double, two homers, and 5 RBI to clinch the season series for the horned ones.

From the Driller Dude...

On Seth's recent tournament trip to Georgetown, we took the team to see a
Round Rock Express game. We sat on the outfield berm behind the visiting
Albuquerque Isotopes bullpen.

As I scanned the pen for recognizable names, I noticed "Etherton" wearing
the number 8. I hollered down to him, "Hey eight, your first name is Seth,
right?" He told me yes. So I explained to him, in order for me and my wife
to agree to a name for our second kid, it would need to be the name of a
major league baseball player. Since he was with the Tigers at the time,
Seth became an agreeable name to both of us. I then called my kid Seth over
to the wall, introduced him to his "namesake", and asked for an autograph.
He agreed, I handed him a pen and Seth's game hat. We're now proud owners
of a "Seth Etherton 8" autographed Lewisville Mustang hat! The rest of the
Mustang team was impressed, became Isotope fans, and are hoping to see
Etherton's name on a Dodger jersey soon!

Tweeners can do no better than a split on the road vs. FFTs. Game 1 former Tweener Hideki Matsui homers twice and drives in 5 off Dallas Braden, FFTs win 11-3. In game 2, Nick Hundley strengthens his argument for more playing time as he homers twice; Tweeners overcome a 3-run deficit and win 5-4. Game 3, Wainwright and friends combine for the 4-0 shutout. Weaver outpitches Felix in game 4, 5-2. In the finale, Aaron Effing Harang fans 10 and allows only 1 run in 8 innings; Reynolds hits a 9th inning homer off Mariano, but it's too little, too late as we fall 3-2.

I think it was game 5, Rhinos were 4 hit, but manage to hit for the cycle.

There was one game the we missed 2 BP homers (at my park) and a 1-18 HR chance all in the same inning, but luckily we won that one.

Vernon Wells hit the righty home run at Wahooville.

There were many more memorable moments like Rollins making 2 errors in the same inning, luckily had no effect on the out come.

Then there is of course those "magic beans (pitchers)" that the Pigs sold me that managed to get me into extra innings several times so that we could lose 3 out of 4. LoL

Warpigs vs Rhinos

The Rhinos, trying to atone for an 0-14 vs the Pigs in 2009, came up short thru the first 7 games.

Warpigs 4, Rhinos 3

Game 1 - Warpigs 8, Rhinos 3: Albert Pujols, Cody Ross, and Delmon Young all homered at the BallPork as Josh Beckett bested C.C. Sabathia. Before the game, the Rhino bullpen received their World Series rings for 2009.

Game 2 - Rhinos 4, Warpigs 3: Hanley Ramirez went 3-4 with 2 homers and 3 RBI for the Rhinos. A missed BP HR (1-17) in the 9th inning had the home fans crying.

Game 3 - Rhinos 9, Warpigs 3: As if starting Brian Matusz wasn't enough, the Pigs also made 3 errors. Zach Duke got the win for the Rhinos.

Game 4 - Warpigs 7, Rhinos 5: In the first of 4 games at the Rhino Preserve, Matt Kemp went 3-3 with 2 bombs for the home team, but a 3-run homer by Delmon Young in the 7th inning was the difference.

Game 5 - Warpigs 6, Rhinos 3: Albert Pujols had 4 hits in the victory. Geovanny Soto pinch hit a 2-run homer in the 8th to expand a 1-run lead.

Game 6 - Rhinos 4, Warpigs 2: A 4-run 3rd inning, capped off by a 3-run homer by ARod was all the Rhinos needed to hand Cliff Lee (10-2) only his 2nd loss of the year. Sabathia went 8 innings for the win.

Game 7 - Warpigs 2, Rhinos 1: Gordon Beckham and Delmon Young hit solo homers to back the pitching of Josh Beckett.

Pujols went 14-26 in the series with 3 homers. Delmon Young also hit 3 home runs and suffered through constant name calling by the opposing manager. And while better fielders on both teams continued to allow hits and make errors, Alberto Callaspo, a 4e31 at shortstop, was apparently making a bid for the Gold Glove.

Fungoes vs Warpigs

Fungi 6, Pigs 4

Game 1 - Warpigs 2, Fungoes 1 (10 innings): Stephen Drew singled in the winning run in the top of the 10th. Josh Beckett threw a 10-inning complete game for the win.

Game 2 - Fungoes 4, Warpigs 3: The Fungoes overcame home runs by Curtis Granderson and Cody Ross for the win. Ryan Rowland-Smith got the win with Jon Papelbon earning the save. John Lackey went the distance in the loss.

Game 3 - Fungoes 2, Warpigs 1: In the bottom of the 8th, Chone Figgins walked and stole second. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly. Papelbon pitched the 9th for the save. Rich Harden took the complete game loss.

Game 4 - Warpigs 8, Fungoes 1: Albert Pujols went 3 for 5 with a double and homer and drove in 3 runs. Cliff Lee went all the way for the win.

Game 5 - Warpigs 6, Fungoes 0: Josh Beckett scattered 5 hits in the shutout. Adam Lind and Miguel Olivo homered for the Pigs.

Game 6 - Fungoes 7, Warpigs 5: In game 1 of a double header, the Fungoes raced to a 7-0 lead before hanging on for the 7-5 win. Brad Bergesen got the win and Papelbon the save. Ross Ohlendorf threw the 6th consecutive complete game for the Warpigs. Both teams homered twice.

Game 7 - Warpigs 8, Fungoes 7 (12 innings): Akinori Iwamura hit a 2-run single off of Scott Feldman for the walk off win in the second game of the double header. The Fungoes scored in the top of the inning on a Brett Gardner single, a steal of 2nd, a steal of 3rd, and a sacrifice fly.

Game 8 - Fungoes 14, Warpigs 12: After three innings, the Pigs lead 10-3, but the Fungoes stormed back for the win. The Fungoes hit 5 homers including two by Lance Berkman who went 3-4 with 5 RBI. Papelbon earned another save.

Game 9 - Fungoes 11, Warpigs 9: Eight different players knocked in runs for the red hot Fungoes. The Fungi also stole 7 bases. Cody Ross was 3-5 with 3 RBI for the Pigs. Papelbon saved his 5th game of the series.

Game 10 - Fungoes 8, Warpigs 0: Clayton Kershaw had a complete game 5-hitter for the shutout win. Lance Berkman, Nelson Cruz, and Matt Wieters all homered for the Fungoes.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. RICK won it in the 12th

Tweeners drop the opener, then take 4 straight from the FFTs at the Hooverdome. Old friend Aaron Harang gets speedy Rajai Davis to ground into 3 DPs and beats Wainwright 5-3. In game 2, Jason Bay's 1st inning homer off Dallas Braden gives old friend Roy Oswalt a 3 run lead, but Mark Reynolds homers twice and we fight back to win 5-4. Game 3, Harang is good again, but Wainwright goes the distance allowing only 3 hits and Reynolds homers again as we win 3-1. Felix Hernandez picks up his 10th win in game 4, 2 more homers and 5 RBIs for Reynolds, final 12-8. Oswalt pitches well in game 5, but Happ, K-Rod, and Gregerson combine for a 1-0 shutout; Reynolds drives in the game's only run with a sac fly. For the 5 games Reynolds hit .500 with 6 homers and 12 RBIs and an OPS of 2.800 (and stole a base). He won't get another hit for a month.

Tweeners somehow manage to win 3 of 5 at home vs. Mavs. We could have easily lost all 5 games. We fall behind 7-2 in game 1, but fight back to tie it, and win 8-7 in 12 innings. Buchholz beats Happ 6-4 in game 2. Game 3 Mavs score 7 in the 4th and hang on for a 9-7 win. Expanded rosters for the final games; Hochevar matches Happ pitch for pitch in game 4, each allow 1 run in 6 innings, but 3 scoreless innings from D.J. Carrasco is much better than the efforts of 5 Mavs relievers as we win 6-1. The finale was a see-saw affair, Tweeners win 7-6 in walk-off fashion. We reach the halfway point of the season, busting our ass to get a game over .500, praying for a second half run.

In game 2, David Murphy hits a 4th inning grand slam off Felix and we can never catch up; Drillers win 7-3. In the rubber match, Happ (8 IP) and Gregerson combine for the shutout. Zobrist's 1st inning RBI double would have been enough; but for good measure in the 8th inning, after Hal elected to intentionally walk Rajai Davis, Ben made them pay by getting the roll for a 3-run homer (HR 1-4/fly).

Inmates take 5 of 7 from Buckeyes in games played at WTF Park at Fungoe Estates on Wednesday night.

INMATES 1 – BUCKEYES 0: Wolf and two Inmate relievers handcuff the Shriveled Testicle Gang on two hits. Molina drives in the winning run with a single in the 1^st.

INMATES 4 – BUCKEYES 2: All the runs score on homers; the Buckeyes hit two solo shots off of Vazquez, while the Inmates hit two two-run shots off of Jackson.

INMATES 3 – BUCKEYES 2 (22 innings): That’s right, 22 innings of no offense. Inmates tied the game at 2-all in the 6^th on a Chipper Jones sac fly, then waited until two outs in the bottom of the 22^nd before Howard hit crawl-off tater. Guzman pitched 10 (!!!) innings of scoreless relief for the win.

BUCKEYES 4 – INMATES 1: Buckeyes finally get in the win column behind Carpenter’s 6-hitter (all singles).

INMATES 5 – BUCKEYES 1: Buckeyes get only 4 hits, while Inmates don’t show much offense either with three runs coming in the 8^th on an Adam Dunn homer.

BUCKEYES 4 – INMATES 3: Another close game with Carpenter out-dueling Vazquez. Inmates left tying run on 3^rd in the ninth.

INMATES 5 – BUCKEYES 4: The closest thing to an offensive show had the Buckeyes battling back from a 5-1 deficit, but leaving the tying run on base in the 9^th.

Fungoes and Goofs played 10 at WTf tonight. Fungoes catch all the breaks while winning 8 of 10. Fungoes outscore the Goofs 47 - 34 in the ten games. Fungoes hit .299 while the pitching fires a 3.02 ERA during the ten game series. Kershaw wins 2 while Papelbon saves 7 to lead Fungo pitching! Fungoes are now 40 - 26 on the year!

After Strasburg's impressive debut against the Pirates, the club announced today that his next start will be against the Indians. No word as to when they will finally let him face a real Major League club.

Tweeners were due, and Wahoos happened to be in the way. Game 1 Reynolds homers twice, de la Rosa fans 10 in 5 2/3, Tweeners win 5-3. Game 2 Felix gives up 9 hits and 5 walks in 6 2/3, but we win 2-1. Game 3 Joe Blanton takes a shutout into the 8th inning, K-Rod saves the 3-1 win. Still not sure how we won game 4. After falling behind 6-2 we score 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to tie it (Reynolds found a 2-out, 2-run triple on Hawksworth's card in the 9th). 'Hoos score in the 11th, but we tie it on another 2-out triple (on Shane's card), then Zobrist drives him in for the game winner. The momentum carried into game 5 when we scored 4 in the first, and the Wahoos, a/k/a Carlin's cat, could hardly wait to catch their flight. Take that, Corey Koskie.

Game 1 - Warpigs win 6-4. Jayson Werth hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th to give the Buckeyes a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Miguel Olivo singled, pinch hitter Matt Joyce walked, and after an out, pinch hitter Oscar Salazar hits a walk-off 3-run homer. John Lackey went the distance for the win.

Game 2 - Buckeyes win 8-3. Carpenter gets the win.

Game 3 - Buckeyes win 12-7. The Pigs overcame a 5-0 deficit to lead 7-5, but the Buckeyes scored 3 in the 7th and 4 in the 8th for the win.

Game 4 - Buckeyes win 3-2. Jayson Werth came up in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded and the score tied at 2. He singled to left to give the Buckeyes the walk-off win.

Game 5 - Buckeyes win 8-3. Nyjer Morgan knocked in 4 runs. Pedro Martinez pitched well for the win.

Game 6 - Warpigs win 2-1. Cody Ross hit a solo homer in the 7th to tie the game at 1. Ross then singled to lead off the bottom of the 9th and scored the winning run when Miguel Olivo tripled.

Game 7 - Warpigs win 6-3. Martin Prado and Jayson Werth went back to back in the 8th to chase Cliff Lee and tie the game at 3. But Albert Pujols hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th for the winning runs.

Game 8 - Buckeyes win 9-2. Three Pig errors and 5 unearned runs allowed were part of the story. That and the inept Pig bats.

Game 9 - Buckeyes win 3-1. Chris Carpenter and two relievers allow only 3 hits in the win. Pujols homered for the only Pig run.

Game 10 - Warpigs win 4-1. Adam Lind homered twice and Cliff Lee took a shutout into the 9th.

I think I'll play the Wahoos and see if things improve.

The league commissioner has asked me to give a demerit each to the Rhinos and Inmates for not reaching 50 games played by June 1.

Warpigs vs SuperGoofs

Goofs 5, Pigs 3

We played all 7 of the Pig home games and 1 of the Goofs' in order to get to 50 under the deadline. The Goofs pounded the ball, hitting 21 homers in 8 games. Oddly, all of them were on either 4-11, 4-12, 4-2, or 6-2.

Game 1 - Goofs win 4-1. Greg Zaun hit 2-run homers in the 2nd and 3rd inning. Only a Adam Lind solo shot in the 9th kept this from being a shutout.

Game 2 - Pigs win 9-8. The Pigs jumped out to leads of 8-0 and 9-1, and then watched and laughed as the PigPen tried to get outs. Funny stuff. The game ended when the potential tying run was thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

Game 3 - Pigs win 8-4. An 8-run 3rd inning against Barry Zito was enough. Cliff Lee went the distance.

Game 4 - Goofs win 18-1. In what might have been the most perfect game in the glorious history of the Goofs, only two things marred the scorebook. The Pigs scratched across a run in the bottom of the 9th again to avoid the whitewashing, but the big story was former UTA star Hunter Pence. In the top of the 9th, Pence choked on a 1-16 homer chance, settling for the triple. The shame is, that would have been Pence's 4th home run of the game. He ended up 4/5 with 7 RBI and 15 total bases. Josh Beckett scattered 17 hits and 14 runs in his 7 innings of work.

Game 5 - Goofs win 9-3. The following is a list of all the interesting things that happened in this game:

Game 6 - Pigs win 8-6 in 11 innings. This game, on the other hand was kinda fun. Barry Zito, fresh from getting blasted by the Pig bats earlier, took a no-hitter into the 8th before Delmon Young squirted a single up the middle. Geovanny Soto, then pinch hit in an at bat saving move, and launched his first homer of the season to make the game 3-2. Mike Adams came in to calm things down, but he was pulled in the 9th for Jonathan Broxton. Broxton blew the save when Albert Pujols scored from 1st on a double by Oscar Salazar (1-9 at home). By this time, the PigPen (such as it is) was out of pitchers, so naturally the Goofs scored 3 in the top of the 10th. But the Pig offense wasn't finished, and matched the Goofs with 3 runs of their own. The game ended in the 11th when Cody Ross hit a 2-run homer off of Kyle McClellan.

Game 7 - Goofs win 12-1. The angry Goofs retaliated with a 6-run first and cruised to the win. Adam Lind homered for the Pigs.

Game 8 - Goofs win 6-3. In the "Get To 50!" game, the clubs moved to GoofyVille, and the Goofs stay hot to win the game.

DVs vs FFTs and DVs vs Zaps

Okay, the vacation took a turn for the worse as I got all the games I
had instructions for played. I do not have Zaps email here so please
pass along this note as appropriate. Since typing on the iPhone is
only slightly less painful than watching my team, I shall be brief.
DVs go 3-7 vs FFTs and 1-4 vs Zaps.
Only observations are that the 2-8 straight home run shot on Fatboy
Fielder's card is ridiculous. Please, he couldn't carry his dad's
bratwurst. And Maicer Izturus hitting a grand slam off of Halladay to
provide the winning runs in a critical game 9 is ludicrous as well.
Stats will be sent within 24 hours of my return to civilization. DVs
now 42-49 after a brief visit to the intoxicating .500 level.

7/28 On Edgardo Alfonzo bobblehead night, fans at the Church Lot were treated to free baseball courtesy of Carlos Pena who hit a HR in the top of the ninth off of Wuertz to tie the game at 2. Each team scores one in the 12th. Pena hits a grand slam off of Masterson in the top of the 13th to win it for the Tweeners. The field was promptly showered with Alfonzo heads by the Stanley faithful......

The Beakless Chicken Gang played the inaugural NASOMA series at WTF Park at Fungoe Estates, only to be treated like shit by the Fungi.

FUNGOES 2, INMATES 1 – A 12-inning pitchers’ duel with nine Inmate/Fungoe pitchers allowing only a total of 17 hits. A walk-off steal of home (!!!???) on a 1-6 roll with two outs in the bottom of the 12th sealed the win for the cheatin’ bastages of Fungoeville. WTF!

INMATES 3, FUNGOES 0 – Five Inmate pitchers combine to toss an 8-hit shutout.

INMATES 10, FUNGOES 2 – Vazquez shuts down the Fungoe bats, while Rowland-Smith and the Fungoe arson squad pitch batting practice. B. Molina and A. Jones tater for the Inmates.

FUNGOES 13, INMATES 6 – A Beltre grand-salami in the Inmates 1st is all the Baptist Bowl Choralaires had to sing about as the Fungoe bats awoke to pound out 15 hits, including a slammer of their own.

FUNGOES 4, INMATES 3 – A missed 1-10 HR by Ryan Howard is all that stood between ingnominy and extra-innings for the Inmates. Inmates chose to be ignominious. Papelbon shuts down Impotenmate bats in 9th to take prophylactic match. Inmates now 18-27.

Fungoes and Inmates played today at WTF Field. The results of the inaugural games here at WTF are as follows:

Game 1:

Fungoes score the first run at WTF with a 2nd inning Triple by Zimmerman followed by a sac fly by Figgins. Wakefield gives up a run in the top of the third and the game remains tied up until the 12th inning. Fungoes leadoff batter Brett Gardner singles in the bottom of the twelth inning. Cesar izturis lays down the sac bunt and then Denard Span moves Gardner to third with the ground-out to second base. Fungoes manager Al Kaline then flashes the steal sign to Gardner who speeds down the line and steals home for the win!!! Papelbon picks up the win as the Fungoes win game one, 2-1.

Game 2:

Inmate pitching, incensed at the steal of home in game one shut down the Fungoes in game two as 5 hurlers combine for the shutout. Price takes the loss for the Fungoes as the Inmates win game two, 3-0.

Game 3:

Inmates score 4 in the first and never look back, winning it big 10-2. Row-Smith gives up the four spot in the first for the loss.

Game 4:

Inmates score 4 again in the first inning. Kershaw gives up the four spot in the first along with single runs in the 4th and 5th, yet he hangs on for the win as the Fungo offense wakes up and scores 6 in the second and 6 in the fifth, coasting to the 13-6 win.

Game 5:

Fungoes win a close game 5, 4-3 with Stetter picking up the win and Papelbon the save!

Fungoes win 3 of 5 raising their overall record to 32 - 24.

The big question the day; is a steal of home to win it considered a "walk-off" Steal!!!

Fungoes vs Wahoos

From the Fungoid...

Fungoes and Wahoos played 8 today. Wahoos jumped on the Fungomiester early winning the first three games. Fungoes would turn things around though, winning the last five! Here are the highlights:

Game 1:

Wahoos score three in the 2nd and three in the 3rd (all off of Kershaw) winning game one 9-1.

Game 2:

Wahoos get to Porcello for 4 runs in 5 innings and then make it stand up winning 4-2.

Game 3:

Wahoos score five in the 8th smashing the Fungoes 10-2. Ryan Rowland-Smith takes the loss!

It was somewhere around this point when the /Fungoes thought about heading for home.......we were being harassed by the Indians and Chief Wahoo was on the warpath!

Game 4:

Fungoes score in the third inning for our first lead of the day! Fungoes go on to win 4-1. Row-Smith picks up the win and Paps gets the save for the Fungi.

Game 5:

Kershaw redeems himself as he and Pinto combine for the shutout! Fungoes win 5-0.

Game 6:

Fungoes bats wake up to the tune of 18 hits and the Fungoes win it 12-5. Pinto gets the win and Feldman picks up a three inning save. A strange occurrence took place in Game six as four straight Wahoo batters hit second base X chances. Hudson is a 1e10 and you'd think this would be great for the Fungoes. Unfortunately he booted three of the four chances!!!

Game 7:

Wahoos lose a heart-breaker when the Fungoes score 5 in the top of the 9th to win 6-2. Trailing 1-0 in the 8th Matt Wieters hits a ballpark homer (1 through 6) and rolls it for the tie score. In the bottom of the the frame Wahoos hit a ballpark homer (1) to take a 2-1 lead. Fungoes hit 2 homers in the top of the ninth for the comeback! Vargas picks up the win in relief for the Fungoes.

Game 8:

Fungoes win the finale 5-2. Pinto wins it while Papelbon picks up the save.

Fungoes are now 29 - 22

Inmates are making the trip up Sunday for the first games in the new "friendly" confines of WTF field!

Snakes go 4-1 vs the drillers at the snakepit.

We have not been playing well on the road, 5-10 last 15 away from Stanley. The drillers won the first game 3-2. The last 4 were 8-1, 10-1, 4-0,13-0. We did not face Lincecum or Haren. I guess DD did not feel he needed to bring his "A" squad to the snakepit OR he is saving them for my favorite girl group Sally and the DeeVees.......

DVs vs Sidewinders

DVs take 4 of 5 at home and then Snakes almost pull back to even by going 3-2 in the Snakepit. Total runs for the series were 39 each, Snakes couldn’t capitalize at a few key times in the series, with the DVs hitting more homers (7 to 4). Some highlights:

Game 1 With Starlin Castro watching from the press box, DVs win 8-1 as Cahill gives up a run in the first, but then spins a 2 hitter and the DVs bats carry the load
Game 2 SSWs pound Aaron Cook and lead 10-0 going into the 6th behind Zambrano. The DVs mount a challenge that is only strong enough to attract the attention of the ‘hotties’ sitting behind the dugout, and eventually the Snakes prevail 10-6. Jeremy Hellickson is spotted lurking around the player entrance to the DV locker room.
Game 3 – Halladay and Lester hook up in a nice duel, with the DVs winning 5-3
Game 4- The only extra inning game, Matt Holliday has a walk off walk and the DVs win 4-3
Game 5 – Cahill stays hot and wins 4-1. The series shifts to the Snake Pit:
Game 6 – Snakes get off to a good start behind a complete game by Jimenez as they win 4-3 on a Markakis walk off double that drove in Derek Lee, who had a pinch hit double ahead of him
Game 7- DVs ensure at least a split with a 3-2 win with the bullpen contributing 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings
Game 8 – Danks pitches well and the SSW win 4-3.
Game 9 –The DVs ride a Halladay complete game that notches his 9th win with a 3 hit shutout.
Game 10 – Mike Stanton takes BP with the DV major leaguers before the game, to which Snakes manager is overhead to comment: “Damn”. Zambrano takes charge in the real game however, and the Sidewinders romp 11-1.

Drillers go 3 and 2 vs Snakes in Mud Pit.

Game 1: Longoria boots two yet some scrub named “Murphy” turns DPs… Even in a perfect world, Drillers shouldn’t be on the same field with Snakes. 5 – 2 Snakes.

Game 2: Mauer goes deep on a 1 to 3. Driller clean-up hitter ties it via suicide squeeze! Shields makes an early Sac Fly stand up with help of pen! Drillers win, 2 – 1.

Game 3: Kubel makes a catch, hits a tater, then gives up a triple to Valbuena. Markakis adds insurance run. David Murphy blasts a pinch-hit, 2-out, 3-run shot off Soriano to put Drillers up 5 – 3 for good. Lincecum moves to 4 – 5 on the year with victory.

Game 4: Ellsbury blasts a 3-run DONG off Peavy in 2nd after Beltran gives up a fbB + 2 base error to, THAT MAN, Valbuena! Luckily, David Wright is “W” power vs righties or the game would have been tied in the 5th ! Wright missed another “wish I was “N” 3-run shot in the 8th thus tying the game rather than taking a 3-run lead! Ellsbury singles, moves the third on Johnson’s single to right and scores on Jeter’s Sac Fly to set up Nathan for his 3rd win. Drillers win 5 – 4. Thank you Mr. limp wristed David Wright!

Game 5: Not to beat a dead horse… an error by our favorite 3rd baseman, David Wright, allowed the Drillers to break the scoreless tie in the 5th. Zambrano went on to walk the bases full plus one. He left the field grabing his crotch in a suggestive manner muttering something in the direction of third. Neftali accidently tossed a warm-up pitch at Wright’s head… which he also dropped. Feliz cleans up the mess. Hammel promptly tires in the 6th with one out. Mind you this is only a 2 – 1 game, Drillers on top. At this point the Snakes have out hit Drillers TEN to ONE! Snakes tie it when Seth Smith drops a lfX single; Wilson Ks his way out of the inning holding the tie. Mauer blasts ANOTHER 1 to 3 ballpark tater with two out and two on in the 9th, followed up with 2-4 roll from D. Lee. Snakes out Drillers 14 to 2 but have to win it in the ninth. Snakes 5 – 2 to close it out.

Driller at Buckeyes

Buckeyes win 3 out of 5. Runs were scored, hits were... hit, errors were (possibly) made. Big strikeouts, nice glovework... But I'm only guessing.

Los Bees at Los DVs

It was Cinco de Mayo La Festivale Day at DV Field. Former DV great and Mexican hero Benji Gil threw out the first ball (well over the head of its intended target. Score that e6).

From Los DV...

Bees gain 5 more games on the FFTs – although the DVs take 3 of 5 to tamp down the Bee celebration.
Also had a first – Hal subbed in a player (Schumaker) at a position that wasn’t listed on his card – SS. DVs played the final inning under protest, but ended up winning in the bottom of the 9th, so justice prevails (see editor's note below). Overall a rather unrealistic series as Halladay lost a game.

Warpigs at Wahoos

Wahoos sweep a 3-game set at The Reservation.

Game 1 - Wahoos 7, Warpigs 3 - Aramis Ramirez hit a solo HR in the 4th, and two batters later Vernon Wells added a 3-run shot. That was all Gil Meche needed. Josh Beckett took the loss.

Game 2 - Wahoos 6, Warpigs 1 - Wade Davis lost the shutout on a 9th inning, clutch single, but he still got the complete game win, striking out 12.

Game 3 - Wahoos 4, Warpigs 3 - Why alcohol was invented: After Colby Rasmus hit a 2-run single in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game at 3, the Wahoo's bottom of the 9th went like this:
1. (Aaron Laffey pitching) Milton Bradley reaches on a ballpark single.
2. Vernon Wells attempts a hit and run, but rolls a strikeout. Because he is a "C" hit and run guy, he misses the pitch.
3. Bradley (who is not a *) needed a 6 to be running with a good lead. Naturally, he got it. But still, the Laffey/Olivo battery is a -5, s0 it was 1-8 to steal second. Bradley rolled the 3. The T-rating was 1-10. Overthrow. Runner is on third now. (A less patient, less mature man than myself would be throwing dice by now. Or a pen.)
4. Wells grounds out with the runner holding. 1 down.
5. Lastings Milledge pinch hits for Salty, and is intentionally walked.
6. Drew Stubbs hits for Jimmy Rollins and rolls a flyB, which is a single due to the outfield playing in. Game over.

The Wahoos reach the May 1 deadline with more than an hour to spare.

Inmates and Bees split a pair at the Baptist Bowl.

GAME 1 – Bees 6, Inmates 4 (15 innings). Inmate Arson Squad blows a 4-2 lead, then closer Guzman allows a two-run homer to Stewart in 15^th for the Bee win.

GAME 2 – Inmates 3, Bees 1. Bees were done in by a passed ball and an error. Howard tattered for the Inmates.

Inmates now 16-24.

Five close games at the Baptist Bowl:

GAME 1 – Inmates 3, Zaps 2. Matt Diaz hits two doubles. Both pitching staffs pitch well. Rodriguez takes the loss despite 9 Ks in 6 1/3 IP.

GAME 2 – Zaps 6, Inmates 3. A 3-all tie until the Inmate Arson Squad comes in to allow 3 runs on 7 hits in the last three innings. Howard wastes a pair of homers for the Inmates.

GAME 3 – Zaps 7, Inmates 6. 8 screaming fans watched the Zaps rally from a 5-2 deficit to squeak past the Inmate Arson Squad. Aardsma comes in with the winning run at the plate and saves the game for the Zaps.

GAME 4 – Inmates 2, Zaps 1. A classic pitchers’ duel. Both teams get 7 hits, but Inmates win in 9^th on Bengie Molina single with one out, scoring Chipper Jones. Floyd Ks 10 in complete game win.

GAME 5 – Inmates 3, Zaps 1. Another great pitching duel until Rhodes self-immolates in relief of Greinke in the 8^th. With 2 on, Rhodes allows 2 hits and a walk without getting an out. Vazquez Ks 11 in 8 2/3 for the win.

Tweeners take 3 of 5 from the Buckeyes at the Hooverdome. Ben Zobrist's 2-run 8th inning HR is the difference in game 1 as we win 5-3. Felix throws 7 strong innings in game 2 and leaves with a 2-run lead, but Buckeyes tie it with 2 in the 9th; Carlos Pena saves us with a walk-off bomb in the 10th. We drop both ends of the 7/16 doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 13-2. Tweeners rebound for a 7-3 win in game 5, as Victorino lacks only a single to hit for the cycle. Buckeyes out-hit us .279 to .230, out-pitch us 3.77 to 5.09, but our speed/power quotient (8 homers + 8 steals) help us win the series.

May 3 - Warpigs 4, Wahoos 3 in 10 innings - The Wahoos hit two solo homers in the first inning, but Mike Pelfrey settled down after that. A 6th inning homer by Albert Pujols tied the game at 3. The game ended in the bottom of the 10th when Stephen Drew went deep off of Phil Coke. Francisco Liriano got the win. Five of the seven runs in this game were scored on solo homers.

May 4 - Warpigs 6, Wahoos 1 - Cliff Lee gave up only a single run in the first inning, going the distance for the win. Delmon Young went 3/4 with a homer. Ricky Nolasco took the loss.

He stole second and Young hit a 2 out clutch RBI single. Greinke preserves his own win with a perfect 9th. We have 8 left.....

Snakes and tweeners split a 4 game set at the snakepit. Highlight for snakes was an 11 run third inning in game 4. Beltran hit a pair of two run homers in the inning and we held on for an 11-7 win. Facing Felix and Wainright back to back is no fun.

Zaps at Fungoes

From the Fungoes... Fungoes manage to win only 2 of the 5 vs the Zaps at WTF Field. We got Zapped by the Zapper. Fungoes fall to 24-19.

Zaps at Warpigs

The Warpig starters silenced the Zap bats for four straight wins, before dropping game 5.

Gm 1 - Cliff Lee threw a complete game shutout, scattering 9 hits. Three DPs helped. Jeff Bailey made a rare start at DH and hit a 1st inning grand slam. Pigs win 7-0.

Gm 2 - The game was tied 2-2 when Miguel Olivo hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 7th. Josh Beckett went the distance for the 4-2 win.

Gm 3 - Curtis Granderson homered to lead off the game for the Pigs. Gordon Beckham hit a solo shot in the 3rd, and that was all John Lackey needed. The Zap run came in the 9th on a fielder's choice. If the DP had been turned, Lackey would have joined Lee in shutting out the Zaps. The Pigs win 2-1.

Gm 4 - I figured the Zap offense would finally explode vs Ross Ohlendorf, but game 4 brought the same quiet bats. Zap starter Max Scherzer pitched even better, throwing 6 shutout innings. But when he came out to start the 7th, Miguel Olivo greeted reliever Jim Johnson with a solo homer to tie the game at 1. In the bottom of the 8th, Cody Ross hit a 2-out triple to score Albert Pujols from first. Delmon Young then pinch hit a clutch single to score Ross. The Pigs win again, 3-1.

Gm 5 - Mike Pelfrey was the answer the Zap bats had been looking for. Three Zap homers helped Eric Bedard to an 8-2 win.

From the Beeboy... Bees take 3 of 5 at my place. We had 4 complete games, 3 of which we won. In the complete game loss,Chad Billingsley struck out 15. Verlander and Jurrjens each had complete game shutouts. My team could not hit a lick...we only had 4 hrs combined in all 5 games; pretty piss-poor for a team built around a small ballpark.

April Fools Update

First of all, I want to thank all of you for making an otherwise boring Thursday a fun one. The little Wahoo got the benefit of playing Tom Sawyer going to his own funeral. I especially enjoyed getting the gullible Bees for the second year in a row.

Now... on to other things...

I think the weirdest thing was having no trades made during the weekend. None. Nada. Zero. Or at least there were none reported.

Somebody asked me the other day if there is ever a list of the cuts. There has not been a list like that, to my knowledge. Until now. Of the 30 players cut (the Mavs passed on his last two picks and didn't have to make cuts), almost half (14) were protected on pre-Draft rosters. Of the 16 draft picks cut, the earliest pick was Russell Branyan at pick 116. Here are the players cut after the 2010 Draft and the pick used to take them (those on pre-Draft rosters have an (R):

Incidentally, NO team cut their last two picks. Thank God for the Tweener Rule.

There were 18 uncarded players taken in the Draft. One of those (Billy Wagner at pick 124 by the Drillers) was a cut. That leaves 17 new uncarded players to combine with the ones already on rosters. There were 11 uncarded players protected on pre-Draft rosters. One of those (Clement of the Inmates) was later cut. So there are 27 uncarded players on teams' reserve lists. Three of those are veterans (Webb and Glaus for the Nads; Sheets for the Rhinos).

The first round barely resembled my stab at a mock draft. I hit a few right on the nose, and I wasn't too far off on others. Here are the results:

1. Zobrist. My mock draft had the uncarded Desmond Jennings going here. It was not going to happen, but I needed to throw a little bait towards the Tweeners.

2. Bailey. I had Zobrist going here and Bailey going 4. Close.

3. Anderson. Nailed it.

4. Morales. I had Bailey here and Morales going at 5. Again, close. I bet the Mavs wish Morales had made it to 5.

5. Blanks. I don't know where I would have slotted Blanks, but it wasn't in the first round. I'm sure Blanks will prove me wrong.

6. Pineiro. I had the Goofs taking Feldman, so we'll call this "close." And by the way... Pineiro is EI, not IE. The Driller Dude fell back on his vague, whispy memories of grade school and came up wrong. Again.

7. Bergesen - My mock pick here was Pineiro, but I think the Fungoid had his heart set on Bergesen all along.

8. Coghlan - Nailed it!

9. Aardsma - I had the Zaps taking the best reliever. I said Gurrier; the Zaps said Aardsma. Close enough.

10. Feldman - Fungoes again. I had Correia here. Damn close.

11. Wuertz - Missed this one. I had no idea what the Snakeman would do here. He didn't appear to need much. I guess he needed another reliever.

12. Niemann - My mock draft pick in this spot was a joke, but it DID bring us a new example of NASOMASpeak: "Mike Stanton has a huge hole in his swing and struggles defensively" is NASOMASpeak for "I forgot I had Mike Stanton."

13. Desmond Jennings - In the mock draft, the Rhinos still owned this pick and I had him taking a reliever. Shortly after that posting, the Rhinos traded this pick to the Warpigs for the reliever he wanted. The Warpigs were elated to have Jennings still on the board.

14. R.Soriano - The Snakes were REALLY not satisfied with his bullpen. I assume he is now.

15. Correia - Trying to get inside the Buckeye head is impossible. I had him taking Randy Ruiz, which he DID... in the 4th round.

16. Calero - Nope. I was nowhere close again. The Buckeyes always know better.

Of the guys I had pegged for the first round, Gurrier (2nd Rd) and Ruiz (4th Rd) both ended up Buckeyes.

Time will tell who had the best draft, but at first glimpse... well, I guess it depends on what your draft goal was. The Buckeyes got some pretty good parts as did the Fungi. The Warpigs grabbed a lot of young talent. So did the Wahoos. The Snakes and Rhinos didn't have great drafts, but neither one needed to. Their teams were already set.

We'll revisit this during the summer to see who had the best drafts.
