Fungoes at FFTs

Fungoes 3, FFTs 1

From the WhatTheFungo...
Fungoes visited FFT Land for our final four....here are the results:

Game 1: Ichiro Suzuki had 5 hits and 2 RBI as the FFT'S topped the FUNGOES
in 10 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at Qualcomm Stadium. A Papelbon blown save left the game deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. FFTs ended up winning
it in the 10th inning. Jorge Cantu lined a base-hit. After an out was
recorded, Tolbert took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.
Michael Bourn then drew a walk. Suzuki was up next and he slapped a single
resulting in an exciting win for the FFTs and a raucous post-game celebration by
the home town fans. FFTs had 11 hits for the afternoon. Fu-Te Ni(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Scott Feldman(0-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 2
hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning.

Game 2: In a game for the baseball purist, Rick Porcello(1-2) and James McDonald(0-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, The Waxahachie FUNGOES finally emerged
victorious over the FFT'S, 2 to 1. Fungoes brought 2 runs across the plate in the 7th inning with the help of 3
hits. The highlight belonged to Denard Span who deflated the mood of the
partisan fans when he stroked a base-hit plating two runs. The FFTs had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short. Jonathan Papelbon got the save, his 8th. TERRY's manager was reflective after
the loss, 'We should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes.
Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'

Game 3: Center fielder Grady Sizemore had 2 base hits at Qualcomm Stadium as the FUNGOES beat the FFT'S 4 to 2. Fungoes scored 3 runs in the 6th inning when they had 3 base hits. Mark Teahen
started the inning off right when he hit a single. Denard Span stepped into
the batter's box and he doubled. Lance Berkman was next to the plate, but
was promptly struck out. After another out, Nelson Cruz stepped up to the
plate and he lost the ball over the fence for three runs. The Fungoes had just 6
hits for the night. David Price(2-0) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Jonathan
Papelbon recorded the save, his 9th. Danys Baez(0-1) was the loser in
relief. Jason Kendall was quoted later saying "He hit the shit out of that one", when asked to describe the home run ball served up by Baez.

Game 4: First baseman Lance Berkman lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 5 RBI as
the FUNGOES outscored the FFT'S 8 to 7. Berkman provided much of the offense. He blasted a two-run home run in the
4th inning, doubled plating a run in the 5th inning and doubled which was
good for two runs in the 7th inning. This was the kind of game that many
fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times. Mitch Stetter(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. James McDonald(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed
3 hits and no walks in 1 inning. With this win, the Fungi improved to a division leading 71-50 record. With the loss, the FFTs record falls to 59-93, worst in the
division overall. "Well, I blame myself" Said Team owner Terry Miller, "I hired that sorry low-down dog of a manager".
