Rolling Bones

Just curious... which managers, given the option, prefer to roll dice in a face to face game? My guess is the dice rollers include the Pigs, Inmates, Wahoos, Snakes, and Tweeners. Any others prefer dice to the computer game?

I know the computer allows for quicker games and stats that are done for you, but I would rather NOT hurry through the season. I don't want to just "knock em out," ya know? And I LIKE doing stats. I know... I'm weird.

Another question on the same line... Are the SuperGoofs ready to roll dice? With the master of dice rolling strat players right there under the same roof, I like to think they have rolled about a million games preparing for the Goof's first full season in the league... but I suppose in this computer age, with all of life's distractions pulling us in so many directions, it's possible they have not rolled any.

And while we're at it, how many of us have netplay capacity for mail games? Is it all 16 yet?

I,too, like doing stats by hand. I prefer to roll dice whenever possible but I have learned to enjoy playing compueter games and netplay.

Tweeners say yes to face-to-face dice whenever possible. When playing with an opponent's instructions the computer is preferred (I always hated rolling good dice for the opponent; now I can just blame Hal). I have come to appeciate netplay more, but the last couple of years have been a pain to convince my computer to serve as the "host". With a new computer now set up, perhaps this year will be better.

I can't vouch for this personally, as I have never tried it, but I hear lots of talk about something called Himachi being a solution to netplay connectivity issues. Bryan and Garth probably know a thing or two about it - or they will by Draft, I hope. Stay tuned.

Dice, by far, is my top choice to playing on the computer.

And yes, in my other league it's becoming pretty much mandatory to load this program up. Here's the link:

It's one of those deals that if one manager is using, both have to. It apparently is pretty much full proof. Guys in that league who'd had all kinds of probs -- no sweat. This worked.

I've got a full detailed instruction sheet if we get interested (and, it sounds like if you ever want to play me on netplay, i'll be using it).

Fungoes also prefer to roll dice. We don't have a big hangup on playing via PC though. As a matter of fact, I have found that when taking the annual trip to Bee-ville, time mandates some games be played by HAL 9000.

But I must say that I would not want to play the playoffs and World Series by PC. I know that is exactly what happened this year but, it just seems that the PC leans one way or another (like this year the PC really seemed to like the Fungoes, the dice, not so much). So you guys who played the playoffs by PC, what did you think?

Rolling the dice is ALWAYS preferable to the computer version, although netplay is the next best thing.

Tried hamachi once. Spent two weeks in the hospital, and the girl I was with never recovered. I did learn how to drink scotch threw a latex nipple though.

Oh, shit. Wrong hamachi...

No, that's the same one.

I think this Hamachi is different. Pigman has it confused with some weird thing he did with his Nads recently.

So the "Netplayoffs" did leave something to be desired, most notably a DV championship, but given the alternative- we still might not have them played as of today if we required a face to face venue.
That said, the flow of the game (especially being able to use the card image option) is about the same, imo. The one thing that you do miss is the ability to decoy the opposing manager into making the wrong move based on 'innocent' remarks like: "You still got Okajima in the pen?" when my lefty crushing Chase Utley is due and facing a much worse matchup on the mound. (Rhinos fall for that shi+ ALL the time - LOL). Those 'helpful hints' just don't happen as well in the chat window, much like online poker vs. in person bluffing around the table.
My sense on how to better arrange the playoff 'in person/virtual' issue is that we agree at the draft what the date for the playoffs would be (I would suggest either the weekend before Thanksgiving or the first weekend in December) - and everyone knows to block that out, much the same as we do the draft weekend.
Also missed the tamales, but I digress..... I have seen the positive posts about the Hamachi application, will try and test it out with a few practice games prior to the draft. If it works, we can send the Zapper to his hotel room to connect into the conference room so we can get some games completed in peace and relatively odor free.

whoa... getting duped and outmanaged by the DEEVEES?!? i find that hard to believe. that's like losing a beauty contest to the snakeman.

Update! - There's a hamachi festival this weekend in Austin! Bring your own mayonnaise and argyle socks!

To Pigman's comment re: Snakeman's looks:
I think he'd have a pretty good chance of 'winning' that contest if Zapper entered.
btw- Holliday is due up, is Soria on the active squad for this series?
