A very entertaining 5 game set at the Hooverdome vs. Hal and his Mavs.
6/13 – Tweakers 11, Mavs 3. Guthrie and MadBum both looked sharp at the outset, so the Hooverdome grounds crew tweaked the ventilation system to generate some offense. J. Upton and Chili Davis went yard to give the Mavs a 2-0 lead, but the Tweakers then cranked out homers by Zobrist, Lind, Venable, and Lough – 2 by Lough, and he would have been a 3rd off Guthrie’s card but for the fact he is “weak”. Dane de la Rosa gets the 3 inning save. Mavs’ 3rd run was also via long-ball (Gattis).
6/14 – Mavs 8, Tweakers 4. May have been the most enjoyable game of the series, with lots of chess moves, until Mavs broke it open late. All 6 bench players for the Tweakers pinch-hit, and we ditched our DH, to no avail. W – Bailey, L – Miller, S – Ross.
6/15 – Tweakers 1, Mavs 0. Pitchers’ duel of Buchholz vs. Iwakuma did not disappoint. Buchholz was removed after 6 innings, but Kuma threw 10 shutout innings (with no decision). In the bottom of the 11th, Robbie Ross came in to throw one pitch to Shane Victorino. Ball game. Vulture victory to Scheppers.
8/26 – Tweakers 5, Mavs 4. Guthrie vs. Bumgarner again. Da Mavs struck first with a 4 run 2nd, but would not score again. Meanwhile, Tweakers get 2 in the 3rd on another Victorino homer, and single runs in the 5th and 7th to tie it. Bottom of the 9th, Zack Cozart is hit by a pitch with one out; Shane lays down a bunt and beats it out; and after a Byrd whiff, Captain Ben Zobrist comes through with a game-winning single off Ross. W – Avilan, L – Doolittle.
8/27 – Tweakers 3, Mavs 1. Bailey vs. Miller again. Tweakers get 2 in the 1st on a bases-loaded walk and a sac fly. Mavs get a run in the 2nd, then Venable homers in the bottom half to complete the scoring. W – Miller, L – Bailey, S – Gray.
