Archer surrendered 2 hits and 7 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings both the Nads hits were homeruns by Frazier.

Syndergaard allowed 1 hit and 4 walks in 5 innings. The Nads offense only managed 2 hits for the second consecutive game.

Nads 4 Rhinos 2   5/25/2017

The Nads won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 3 runs.  After an out was recorded, Frazier opened up the rally as he drew a walk.  Gonzalez n was next to the plate and he walked as well.  Tony Wolters in a pinch appearance then launched the ball over the fence for three runs off of Jones making the Nads walk off winners.

The deciding run was scored by the Rhinos in the 9th. Lemahieu doubled and Revere made a 2 base error scoring Lemahieu.  Both teams totaled 9 hits

on the afternoon.

Garcia racked up an impressive 11 strikeouts allowing just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  The Nads managed 13 hits in their victory.

Kemp hit a three-run homer in the 4th inning and doubled in two baserunners in the 8th inning for a 5 RBI day.

Wisler picked up the win in relief allowing 2 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings and Diaz got the save. The Rhinos had 10 hits for the afternoon while Nads had 7.

Cole went the distance and Kemp hit a 3 run homerun. Gray pitched 9 innings giving up 9 hits and 2 walks for the Bees. Espinoza and Freeman homered for the Bees.

Archer racked up 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort and Baez had 3 base hits as Rhinos topped the Bees by a score of 6 to 1.

Bees 3 Rhinos 2   7/6/2017

Teheran struck out 10 batters and allowed only 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. The Rhinos runs came off homeruns by Votto and Myers.

Eickhoff picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 solo homeruns and striking out 11 Rhinos. The Rhino offense was 2 homeruns by Baez and 1 by Bryant.  Freeman had a 2 homerun day for the Bees.

The Rhinos scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 base hits.  Duvall started the inning with a single, Arcia walked, Lemahieu then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Rodney then threw a wild pitch scoring a run. Votto hit a single scoring the eventual winning run. The Rhinos had 11 hits overall, while the Bees only had 5.

Game 1: Goofs start fast with 5 straight hits with 1 out in the first, along with a walk and error. After 1, Goofs lead 5-0. They cruise to a 9-2 victory.
Game 2: Goofs, and specifically Hunter Renfroe with 2 homers, drop the hammer again. Steven Wright and friends cruise to a 3-0 win.
Game 3: Justin Verlander dominates and Edwin Encarnacion homers to help the Wahoos to a 4-2 win.
Game 4: Wahoos rally with 5 runs in the eighth with Khris Davis and Encarnacion homers (Edwin had 2 in the game). Wahoos win, 8-5.
Game 5: Wahoos again score early (3 in the second) but have to hang on, 9-6.
Game 6: Wahoos use a committee of five to blank the Goofs, 2-0. Adam Eaton scored twice.
Game 7: Jake Arrieta yields only a solo homer and the Wahoos hang on, 2-1.
Game 8: Cameron Rup hits a pinch two-run homer in the 6th to help the Wahoos pull away, 5-2.
Game 9: Wahoos use a 7-run sixth and hit a total of three homers to pull away, 10-3.
Game 10: Wahoos use a walk and three singles (winner from Brandon Crawford) to score the go-ahead run in the seventh. Wahoos win 5-4.

5/6 - Snell  Schoop drives in 4 Tweeners win 9-7

7/18 - Ray  Keuchel and Baez combine for a 3 hit 3-0 shutout in this Driller win

7/19 - Smyly  Josh Donaldson cleared the bases with his grand slam as the Oklahoma Drillers

bested the Logan County Tweeners 8 to 6 at Driller Park.

Demerit Update

Four teams fell short of the 140-game mark for the end of August: the Bees, Wahoos, Drillers, and Skyscrapers. Each team will receive one demerit.

The Stretch Run

With just under a month to play, the playoffs are starting to firm up (which is more than I can say for me).

The Buckeyes clinched the MFD back in May, and will be the #1 seed in the playoffs. This despite going 4-6 vs the Warpigs and having absolutely zero quality players on the team.

The defending champion Sidewinders, who have been to three straight World Series, have the second bye almost locked up. Well, not mathematically, I guess. They have 92 wins with 14 to play, and the Inmates have 94 wins with 10 to play. But the Inmates have to play the Mavs, who are fighting for a wild card, and the Snakes play the Bees, who are fighting the wild turkey.

The Inmates have't clinched the HWD yet. The division is the best race in NASOMA, with the Rhinos forcing their way into the picture (and doing it even though they ran out of catcher ABs in July). The Fungoes have 88 wins with 8 to play, so... yeah, they're not going to win the division.

The BUD is an all or nothing division, with the Wild Card probably not coming from here. The FFTs are in the clubhouse with 88 wins, but the Wahoos have won 71 with 32 to play, and the DVs have 77 wins with 19 to play. The DVs and Wahoos have 11 games left against each other. If such a thing were possible, this would be an exciting series.

As for the Wild Card, the Rhinos and Fungoes lead the way, with the Wahoos 5 games back, and the Mavs and DVs 5.5 back.

Rhinos take 4 of 5 at the HooverDome. No time to pen scholarly recaps.  One thing worthy of note, in game 3 Alex Gordon hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the 2nd inning, an inning in which he later made an out.

In a pitcher's duel the Rhinos squander a 3 hit effort from Archer as the Goofs score with 2 outs on a 1-3 chance with runners on the corners in the 5th. The Rhinos left 12 men on with their best chance of scoring coming in the 8^th inning with the bases loaded no outs an x chart chance to Yunel Escobar (3B 4 e25) who turns the double play home to first, next batter walks and is then followed by a deep drive to CF which is caught for the third out.

 

Goofs 7 Rhinos 2   6/12/2017

 

In a six hit performance by both team’s it was Angel Pagan who provided much of the offense for the Goofs tripling in the 3rd inning and hitting a Grand Slam in the 6th inning.

The game was won by the Rhinos when they scored a run in the 9th inning. After two were out Orlando Arcia reached on an error. Lemahieu then followed with a triple (1-2 chance) scoring Arcia.

Chris Archer tossed a complete game 5 hitter as the Rhinos bested the Goofs 4 to 2.

In a thrilling finish the Rhinos pulled off the win over the Goofs by a score of 4 to 3. The Rhinos scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning.  With one out was Trevor Story ripped a solo home run making the Rhinos walk-off winners.

Joey Votto was a horn in the side of the Goofs hitting a three-run bomb in the 5th inning, delivering a base-hit scoring a run in the 7th inning and stroked a single in the 9th inning. Chris Archer hurled another 3 hitter against the Goofs. Angel Pagan accounted for the Goofs 2 runs with a two run blast in the bottom of the 9th to avoid the shutout.

Angel Pagan slammed a homerun and Derek Holland pitched a complete game as the Goofs beat the Rhinos 7 to 1.

Fungoes 3, Tweeners 2

This one isn't new, but somehow fell thru the Big Innings cracks.

April 21:

Tweeners score 1 in the 1st inning but that would be all as Lance McCullers and Matt Boyd shut em down the rest of the way.  

Fungoes win it 7-1.  Francisco Lindor hits the only HR and it's a 3-run shot to put the Fungoes up 4-1.  Robbie Ray takes the loss.

April 22:

This wild contest was all Logan County through 3 as the Tweeners enjoyed an early 6-0 lead.  Tweeners added 3 more in the 4th to 

go up 9-0.  Fungoes cut the lead to 9-3 with a 3 run home run off the bat of Mike Napoli.  A 10-3 lead seemed safe but the Fungoes 

cut the lead to 10-6 with another big HR from Mike Napoli, his second of the day.  11-6 becomes 11-9 in the bottom of the 8th 

when Napoli hits his 3rd HR of the game!  Fungo pitching allows 2 more in the top of the 9th and the Tweeners lead it 13-9.  Fungoes 

score 2 in the bottom half of the 9th inning and leave the bases loaded!  Tweeners hang on to win it 13-11.Smyly gets the win while

Price takes the loss for the Fungoes.  Villar and Arenado both homer for the Tweeners and each drives in 3.  Trout also smacked 

a homer for the Fungoes while Napoli hit 3 big flys while driving in 7 runs.

April 23:

Fungoes jump out to an early lead and then hold on to win it 4-1.  Dan Straily gets the win for the Fungoes improving his record to 

7-9.  King Felix takes the loss for the Tweeners.  

July 4:

July 4th; Kershaw on the mound and a full house in the stands!  Unfortunately, for the home crowd, Kershaw leaves the game 

after 6 innings for some idiotic reason and the pen can't hold the lead.  Tweeners win it 4-3.  Iwakuma picks up the win while Logan 

collects the save for the Logan County boys!  Shawn Kelley takes the loss in relief for the Fungoes.

July 5:

Fungoes score 5 in the 2nd inning and never look back winning it 9-0.  David Price wins it improving his record to 12-11.  Robbie 

Ray takes the loss for the visitors.  Sal Perez hits the games only home run.

Game 1: Wahoos erupt for four runs in the first with 3 doubles and a homer. But it would take a walkoff shot in the 11th from Edwin Encarnacion to win it. Khris Davis finished with two homers. Wahoos win, 7-6.
Game 2: Wahoos again score four in the first, keyed by a Khris Davis homer. They added four more in the seventh on another Davis homer and three-run shot from Kyle Seager. Wahoos win, 9-3.
Game 3: Fungoes use a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to win, 4-3.
Game 4: Justin Verlander allowed four hits in eight innings and combined with two relievers to help the Wahoos hang on for a 1-0 victory. Sean Rodriguez homered off David Price for the game's only run.
Game 5: Clayton Kershaw threw his final 6 innings of the season. He allowed 4 runs but avoided the loss when the Fungoes scored 6 runs in the top of the 7th. The Wahoos answered with 6 in the bottom of the inning and sent 12 men to the plate to retake the lead. Wahoos win, 10-7.

Extra Reserve Contest Update

With a month to go, the Mavs are running away with the Extra Reserve Contest. And this despite significant injuries to MadBum, Correa, and Turner.

Trailing the Mavs by a whopping 75 points, the FFTs are in 2nd. They have also been hurt by the MadBum loss as well as the King Felix injury.

The Wahoos are a mere 5 points out of 2nd.

Inmates 7, Skyscrapers 3

Inmates 7 – Skyscrapers 4 (Empire State Ballpark): A four-run Inmate 6^th slammed the door on the Scrapers in the inaugural meeting between the two teams. Nunez tatered in the 1^st to set the tone for the game. Rendon jacked one for the losers.

Inmates 4 – Skyscrapers 2 (Empire State Ballpark): Solid pitching by both Davies and Kluber highlighted a game without many offensive highlights. Cargo homered for the Inmates.

Skyscrapers 3 – Inmates 2 (Empire State Ballpark): In a rare showing of competence, Pineda allowed only one hit over six innings, handing a 2-0 Inmate lead over to the Inmate Arson Squad. In the last of the 9^th, still trailing 2-1, Ellsbury led off with a walk off of Jeffress. Goldschmidt followed with a single, then Jeffress uncorked a wild pitch to tie the game. Machado and Kipnis both walked to load the bases with no outs. Joey Bats followed with a mammoth 208-foot single to end the game. Bautista was showered with Gatorade; Jeffress was pelted with shit.

Skyscrapers 7 – Inmates 2 (Baptist Bowl): Bautista homered, Kluber pitched well, and the Beakless Chicken Gang played like zombies. ‘Nuff said.

Inmates 3 – Skyscrapers 1 (Baptist Bowl): Scherzer allowed solo homers to Martinez, Rizzo, and Cargo to ruin an otherwise nice pitching performance. Rickard tatered for the Vertically Inclined in a game where all runs scored on solo shots.

Skyscrapers 1 – Inmates 0 (11 innings - Empire State Ballpark): A great pitching performance by both teams. A scoreless tie was broken in the 11^th when a Kipnis double scored Goldschmidt with the walk-off run. Dull picked up the win, throwing four innings of scoreless relief. Manaea wasted a fine performance due to the return of the LDMF.

Inmates 4 – Skyscrapers 1 (Empire State Ballpark): Scherzer continued his Mr. Potato Head ways, allowing solo-taters to both Segura and Jones. Castro (!?!) hit a two-run shot off of Broxton to ice the game.

Inmates 11 – Skyscrapers 5 (Baptist Bowl): The Inmate bats finally un-snoozed, blasting Kluber for twelve hits in 5 1/3. Segura, Drury, and Jones all homered; Wood picked up a three-inning save.

Inmates 5 – Skyscrapers 4 (Baptist Bowl): Nunez homered in the Inmate 8^th for the winning run in a close game. “Mr. Potato Head” Scherzer allowed a two-run tater to Altuve, but struck out eleven in seven innings. Dull took the loss in relief.

Inmates 5 – Skyscrapers 4 (17 innings – Baptist Bowl): The Game That Almost Never Ended went into extra innings tied 3-3 thanks to a homer in the last of the 9^th by defensive-replacement Jones. The Tall Ones grabbed a 4-3 lead in the 12^th but the Inmates came back once more to tie. Finally, to a chorus of loud snoring from the 28 Inmate faithful left in the bleachers, Martinez doubled home Rizzo with the game-winner in the 17^th.

The HEAD INMATE

Inmates 6, Nads 1

Via CM, all at the Baptist Bowl:

Nads 7 – Inmates 4: A five-run Nad 4^th flushed any chance Pineda may have had to look respectable. Ramirez and Dozier both doubled twice, and the Nad bullpen was flawless in preserving the win.

Inmates 7 – Nads 3: The Inmates returned the five-run 4^th favor while Garcia did his best Pineda impression. Rizzo and Nunez both homered; Gray snagged the win despite an ostentatious display of mediocrity.

Inmates 7 – Nads 1: 321 stalwart Inmate fans enjoyed a team-effort win. Ramos and JMart homered; Quintana and the bullpen pitched well; Rizzo got HBPed twice. Woohoo!

Inmates 11 – Nads 10: A wild and woolly softball game. The Nads blasted Salazar for seven runs in the 1^st, and led 8-0 before the Inmate bats started to awaken in the 4^th. By the time the 9^th inning rolled around the Beakless Chicken Gang held a 10-8 lead, only to have Jeffress do his best self-immolation routine allowing the Nads to tie the game. Not to be outdone, Siegrist and Ziegler allowed the Inmates to walk-off with the win in the bottom of the inning without recording an out.

Inmates 5 – Nads 1: The Nads rolled over and did nothing. JMart and Altuve tatered, Davies pitched well, and Inmate D turned three double-plays. The Nads gathered only one extra-base hit, an RBI double by Ramirez.

Inmates 3 – Nads 2 (10 innings): Saving their best ineptitude for next-to-last, the Nads sent the game into extra-innings when they tied 2-2 in the 9^th. Following the sublime with absurdity, Dozier kicked an easy grounder with runners on the corners in the bottom of the Inmate 10^th to give away the game.

Inmates 10 – Nads 3: Slam-dunk series closer for the Inmates. Ramirez and Diaz both doubled twice for the Nads, but nothing else good happened for them. Rizzo and Cargo homered for the Inmates.

FFTs, DVs, and Warpigs Trade Cuts

In a 3-team swap of cards on the table, the Warpigs send Daniel Norris to the DVs, the DVs send Darwin Barney to the FFTs, and the FFTs send Derek Law to the Warpigs.

The best part of the deal is that the BUD teams made the trade from Maine, Mississippi, and Texas.

Tweeners 3, Rhinos 2

Urias blanked the Tweeners a very well-pitched complete game allowing just 5 hits and 3 walks. Iwakuma served up homeruns to Story, Bryant and Duvall. 

 

 

Tweeners 1 Rhinos 0 -- 6/10/2017

 

In a pitching duel the Tweeners scored the deciding run in the top of the 8th inning with one out when Villar singled, stole second base, Springer then was hit by a pitch. Zobrist struck out, but then Arenado stepped into the box and doubled driving home Villar.

 

Rhinos 4 Tweeners 2 -- 8/16/2017

 

The Rhinos took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits in what proved to be enough as the Rhinos held off the Tweeners. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning.

 

 

Tweeners 4 Rhinos 2 -- 8/17/2017

 

Tied 2 to 2 in the 9th the Tweeners plated 2 runs. With one out Schoop reached on a Baez error and Reynolds followed with a two-run shot. Despite managing only 5 hits the Tweeners managed to pull out the win as the Rhinos went meekly in the bottom of the 9^th.

Madbum threw a complete game limiting the Rhinos to only 5 hits and 3 walks while banging out 10 hits against Sanchez’s complete game effort.

The FFTs traded Trevor Bauer to the Sidewinders for Evan Longoria.

Inmates 6, Nads 1

INMATES go 6-1 at NADS    (NADS suck!!)

May 30th - The Chicago Nads pitching staff was overwhelmed by the Waco Inmates lineup who

plated 16 runs while Michael Pineda(2-2)with bullpen support surrendered 3 runs to Chicago.

Anthony Rizzo had a big evening at the plate.  He tripled which scored a run in the 3rd inning,

doubled in the 8th inning and belted a three-run homer in the 9th inning.

May  31st - Tyler White had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago Nads beat the

Waco Inmates by a score of 5 to 4. Kevin Siegrist(3-1) pitched well 

enough in relief to get the win.

June 1st - J.D. Martinez slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Waco Inmates 

beat the  Chicago Nads by a score of 8 to 4.

August 7th - Sean Manaea(3-3) and Steven Matz(3-14) treated the Chicago fans to 

a fine pitching duel at The Ball Sack.  The Waco Inmates eventually emerged as

victors over the Chicago Nads by the score of 3 to 1.

August 8th - At The Ball Sack the Waco Inmates outscored the Chicago Nads 12 to 9.

Jason Castro enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He doubled scoring a run in the

2nd inning, clubbed a three-run home run in the 5th inning and doubled in the

7th inning.  Chicago made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to

push the needed runs across. 

August 9th- Danny Salazar struck out 15 batters at The Ball Sack as the Waco Inmates beat

the Chicago Nads by the count of 3 to 0.

August 10th - At The Ball Sack, the Chicago faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's

duel.  Jon Gray(7-1) finally bested his Chicago counterpart, Marcus

Stroman(7-15), by the score of 4 to 0.
