Zaps at Fungoes

June 26:

Fungoes score 6 in the 1st and 1 more in the 2nd and coast to a 7-2 win.  David Price (14-8) picks up the win while Cole Hamels collecst the complete game loss for the Zapper.  Trout and Hosmer both hit home runs for the home team.

June 27:

Zack Greinke tossed a complete game and second baseman Chase Utley jacked one

out of the ballyard at WTF where Zaps beat the Fungoes by the score of 5 to 4.  Kyle

Gibson (9-3) takes the loss for the Fungi.

September 1:

Full rosters, Corey Kluber complete game and a CRACK explosion of Zap bats spells

doom for the Fungoes as the Zappers win it 13-5.  Tom Koehler (3-6) earns the loss for 

the Fungoes.  This one really wasn't as close as the score indicates, Zap hitters mashed 

20 hits all off of Tom Koehler, who tossed a complete game.......OUCH!  Corey Dickerson  

went 5 for 6 at the plate while Russell Martin went 4 for 5 with a HR and 4 RBIs!   Altogether 

a game to forget for the Fungo faithful.

September 2:

Trout hit two HRs the last being a walkoff in the 9th as the Fungoes win it 7-6.  Max Scherzer

takes the complete game (8 2/3 inn) loss as through 4 games the Zaps haven't even warmed up

a reliever yet.  Kyle Gibson starts for the Fungoes but David Robertson (4-1)picks up the win in

relief.  Scherzers undoing tured out to be the long ball as Mookie Betts also hit a HR on a ballpark 

HR chance (which is the second time this season Fungoes have hit a BP HR at home).  Chase

Utley Homers for the Zaps!

September 3:

Fungoes break open a 2-2 tie with a 2 spot in the bottom of the 8th on a bases loaded walk followed

by a Danny Farquhar wild pitch to close out the scoring!  Cole Hamels takes the hard luck loss 

while Clayton Kershaw (13-7) scatters 3 hits through 8 innings.  Papelbon picks up his 36th save.

Killer Bees 3, Wahoos 2

Bees go 3-2 vs the Hoos at the Hive.  Hoos finish the series 7-3.  Nothing to report, I'm an unoriginal, lazy bastard.

Zaps 5, Killer Bees 0

That was a fuckin blast.  I love this game.  Zaps go 5-0 at the Hive.

Buckeyes and Fungoes Trade

The Buckeyes traded Ryan Howard to the Fungoes for an 8th round pick.

FFTs and Killer Bees Trade

The FFTs traded Dylan Bundy to the Killer Bees for a 10th round pick.

Zaps 5, Mavs 2

Game 1- Scherzer and the pen held the Mavs scoreless, and the Zaps used
four solo bombs, two from Cutch, to take the opener 4-0.
Game 2-The Mavs pound Hamels with Ozuna cracking an Earl Weaver special
on the way to a 9-2 victory to even the series.
Game 3-Buchholz gave up three first inning runs, that was enough for
Greinke and to triumph 5-2.
Game 4-Homer Bailey outdueled Jon Niese behind Nick Castellanos three
RBI night in a reverse of the game three score.
Game 5-The Mavs handed closer Greg Holland a two-hit whitewash in the
9th, but the Zaps mounted a two-out, three-hit rally in the 9th for a
2-1 win.
Game 6-The Mavs just could not hit with men on base and ended up
stranding eleven in a 4-2 defeat.
Game 7-Greinke and Peralta dueled until the Zaps got three singles in
the sixth to take a slim 2-1 lead that the bullpen held onto to get a W
in the finale.

Zaps 4, Nads 1

Game 1- The Zaps scored six runs in the first inning off Miley and never looked back taking the opener for Greinke 8-3.

Game 2- Corey Dickerson launched two taters while leading the Zaps to a repeat 8-3 win in game 2.

Game 3-Fister gave up only 1 run through seven innings, but the Nad pen gave up three runs and the lead in the 8^th and Giles shut the door.

Game 4-Crawford and Montero scored six runs out of the 8 and 9 holes as the Nads spanked Kluber on the way to a 9-3 triumph.

Game 5-The top three batters in the Zap order went 7 for 15 to lead the way to a 12-7 victory in a getaway game slugfest.

July 11^th NADS win 3-0 WAHOOS hit into 3 DPs and were 0 for 7 with running in scoring position

July 12^th – NADS win 5-1 Dozier and Arcia hit back to back dingers in the 6^th.

Mavs 4, Sidewinders 1

June 14^th:  It’s Bring Your Probation Officer Night here at the Rastadome.  Many Scofflaws are in attendance as like the Iron Clad Alibis they have the summer league post-season off.  Chris Sale takes the hill to face off against Jason Hammel who has allowed a homer every 4.5 innings in 109 innings of work.  Hal says it is a beautiful day for a ballgame but I know this is true only if you are a Sidewinder hitter.  Besides he played Jose Oquendo over Roberto Clemente in centerfield.  What does Hal know?  As the game actually unfolds Hammel throws the game of his life holding the Snakes to 4 hits.  Three relievers combine for one hit over the last three innings and Elvis pounds out three hits to win the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game.  The Mavs win 4-1 but are definitely scared seeing Hal bring Chapman in to pitch the bottom of the eighth down 3-1.  How good is the Snakes bullpen if they can do that?

June 15^th:  It’s Bring Your Mistress Night here at the Rastadome  Wade Boggs is throwing out the first pitch.  The TV feeds will blur the stands to avoid embarrassing any prominent citizens or the girls of Betty’s Brothel.  The Snakes reach into their bag of aces and pull out Johnny Cueto.  The Mavs reach into their bag of injured pitchers and pull out Wily Peralta (oh if only Wong were a pitcher).  In the fourth Mesoraco homers and then the Snakes two Peralta’s get on against my Peralta but are stranded.  1-0 Snakes.  But in the bottom of the fourth the outfield Peralta for the Snakes fails to chase down and fly and then boots and two Mavs scamper home.  2-1 Mavs.  I leave my Peralta in to face the Snakes Peraltas.  He gets one but not the other so we bring in Britton.  Meanwhile the Process Servers are swarming through the stands like seagulls on a trash barge bringing the attendance up to a season high.  In the top of the ninth the shortstop Peralta laces a double with one out against Holland.  The Snakes pinch run an ex-catcher (Mauer) for their starting shortstop.   Moss follows with a ground out bringing up Billy Hamilton as the two out hope.  Billy picks up a 3-7 so Hal stays with him.  Perhaps Hal should have pinch run DiDi Gregorius and had Mauer available to pinch hit here.  Hamilton K’s but off of Holland’s card.  Mavs win 2-1.  A Peralta has to win something.  So we’ll give Wily Peralta the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds (You Ring We Spring) Player of the Game and a free pass to Betty’s Brothel for David Peralta for the costly error.

 

June 16^th:  It’s bring your Kissing Cousin Night here at the ballpark in honor of the Snakes Kentucky background.  The Snakes reach into their bag of aces and bring out Jon Lester.  Meanwhile the Mavs reach into their bag of injured pitchers and bring out Jake Odorizzi.  As you might guess on a night like this, the Snakes score first stringing together a series of hits capped by RBI’s by Brantley and Ortiz.  The Mavs counter with a solo shot by Ozuna in the fourth and a two run shot by Country Breakfast in the fifth.  The Snakes miss about a million ballpark homers and the Mavs hang on to win 3-2.  We note that the Snakes brought in Wade Davis in the seventh down by a run.  How many ace relievers do these guys have?

August 22^nd:  Everyone is eligible!  In honor of that it is Bisexual Night here at the Rastadome.  Johnny Cueto takes the hill against Jason Hammel.  The Snakes get 2 in the top of the eighth to break a scoreless tie.  The big blow, so to speak, is a Dee Gordon single scoring Billy Hamilton with the lead run.  In the top of the ninth the Mavs bring up Wong and he singles off of Wade Davis to start it off.  This forces the Snakes to finally bring in Craig Kimbrel.  Yikes.  But Marcel Ozuna hits a ballpark tater and it is a tie game.  Kimbrel mows down the next three and we go to extra innings.  Moss misses a BP tater in the top of the tenth.  The Snakes cuss Hal.  But Hamilton singles and steals second and third and the Snakes praise Hal.  With the infield in Dee Gordon hits a groundball B and Hamilton is thrown out trying to score.  Gordon is thrown out trying to steal second and the Snakes put a contract out on Hal.  Meanwhile Kimbrel is just mowing down Mavs and using innings.  Bottom of the twelfth and the Snakes have to resort to Aroldis Chapman.  Chapman hits Wong and gives up a ballpark tater to Marcel Ozuna who wins the Betty’s Brothel Blow of the Game.  Mavs 4-2 in twelve.  The Snakes will have a hangover for game five.

August 23^rd:  It’s Bring Your Alcoholic Uncle Night here at the Rastadome, annually our biggest attendance night.  The Mavs owner has three guests himself.  Jon Lester against Homer Allowed Bailey.  The Snakes finally get a ballpark homer as David Peralta breaks a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth.  Brandon Moss adds another one in the top of the eighth but it hardly makes up for the first four games.  With a 6-3 lead going to the bottom of the ninth the Snakes go to Kimbrel because they used to pull wings off of flies.  The Mavs get the tying run to the plate in the person of Michael Morse courtesy of a single by Ozuna followed by an error by Brandon Moss.  Morse pounds into two and that was all she wrote.  The cab line outside the stadium stretches for miles because of all of the breathalyzer equipped cars in the parking lot.  Peralta wins the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Player of the Game for breaking the BP HR jinx.  Sidewinders 6-3.

Game 1

Tehren vs. Zimmerman

Bees jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in the second. Simmons homered in the third. This doesn't look so good. Wahoos tied it 5-5 in the eighth thanks in part to a Seager 2-run homer and a bases-loaded walk by Pedroia. Each team scored once in the ninth before sending it to extra innings. So....we move ahead to the 19th inning. Bees score a pair. Wahoos fight back with two outs and the winner is an x-chance to Solarte (4) at SS. He allows a 2-single and Wahoos survive. Blanks, btw, pinch hit a homer in the ninth. He ended up with 5 at-bats. Wahoos win, 9-8.

Game 2

Wood vs. Alvarez

Both teams start fast. Wahoos lead, 3-1, after 1. Homers from Desmond, Turner, Ianetta and Davis send the Wahoos to the lead by the end of the 5th. Wahoos get strong relief from Morin and win, 10-6.

Game 3

Minor vs. Alvarez

Wahoos bats stay hot as Encarnacion hits a grand slam in the bottom of the second. Later in the inning the wheels started to come off as Freeman allowed a single and error. Wahoos lead, 9-1, after two innings. Wahoos cruised home for a 12-4 victory.

Game 4

Teheran vs. Eovaldi

Wahoos knock Julio out in the second and score 4 runs in the second highlighted by Desmond's homer. Trumbo hits a 3-run bomb in the fourth. Jackson gives the Wahoos some breathing room with a 2-run triple in the eighth. Wahoos win, 8-3.

Game 5

Wood vs. Gee

Wahoos score 3 in the second despite Encarnacion and Davis leaving the bases loaded. Wahoos explode for 8 runs in the sixth. To say we were due is an understatement after getting torched by the Inmates (lose 7 of 8) and Warpigs (lose 3 of 4) in the last 10 days. Wahoos hold on to win 11-2. Our best series of the year. Period. Nothing else close.

Game 1 - Warpigs win 3-2 - It was all tied at 2 going to the bottom of the 9th, a half inning that included a pinch hitter, a pinch runner, a sacrifice bunt attempt, a sacrifice bunt attempt after the batter had 2 strikes, a hit and run attempt, a stolen base after the batter missed the pitch on the H&R, and finally a walk off double by the guy who missed the pitch before. Pedro Strop (1-1) struck out the only batter he faced but was in the right place at the right time and got credit for his first win. Yadier Molina hit the walk off double.

Game 2 - Warpigs win 6-2 - The Wahoos' Jordan Zimmermann was acosted in the first inning, giving up 6 consecutive singles after 2 were out. That 1st inning 5-spot was all the Pigs and Michael Wacha (9-4) needed. Wacha gave up only a single in 5 innings of shutout ball.

Game 3 - Warpigs win 3-2 - Another close game, another Pig win. R.A. Dickey went 6 innings and was hurt only by Kyle Seager who doubled and homered off of him. Jayson Werth went 2-3 with 2 RBI for the Pigs. Pedro Strop came on with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 9th to get Dustin Pedroia out and earn his 8th save.

Game 4 - Wahoos win 4-3. Jordan Zimmermann overcame his last start and outdueled Lance Lynn to get the Wahoos back in the win column. The difference turned out to be an unearned run the Wahoos scored in the 7th after Adrian Beltre made an error. Jake Smolinski had a pinch hit homer, his 1st, in the 8th inning, but it was the last base runner the Pigs had.

6/15 – Tweeners 4, Zaps 0.  Sonny Gray and 3 relievers combine for the SHO.  Hamels the loser.  Tweeners score on bloops, bleeders, and a bases loaded walk.

6/16 – Tweeners 10, Zaps 1.  2-run homers by Sandoval, Cruz, and Gomes.  W – Kuma, S – Smyly, L – Greinke.

8/22 – Tweeners 4, Zaps 3 (10 inn).  Felix with a much better outing, but does not factor in the decision.  Scherzer again gives up 4 runs in a CG, this time fanning 12, but loses in the 10^th on back-to-back doubles by Gregor Blanco and Yan Gomes (first Brazilian born player in MLB history).  W – Dr. Quackenabush.

8/23 – Zaps 6, Tweeners 4.  Zaps salvage the split.  Another 4 run CG for the Zaps, this a Hamels win.  George Brett leaves Kuma in one batter too long, Matt Joyce pounces on the hanging splitter.  McCutchen, Reyes, and Rendon also go yard.

Inmates 7, Wahoos 1

The Chief made the trek to the Baptist Bowl today – all games played with dice and cards.

 

Inmates 7 – Wahoos 5 (The Reservation): Quintana gives up four unearned runs, but Inmates hit three HRs (two by Jones) to outlast the ‘Hoos.

 

Inmates 4 – Wahoos 3 (The Reservation): The Chief is bitten by the Shitty Luck Bug, getting several inopportune roles to avoid the win. Inmates hit four solo taters off of Arrieta in the first five innings – two more by Jones.

 

Inmates 5 – Wahoos 3 (The Reservation): Four more solo HRs by the Inmates (two by Gattis) and the Wahoos lose their third straight at home.

 

Inmates 12 – Wahoos 5 (The Reservation): The drubbing continues as the Beakless Chicken Gang pound out 17 hits and blast the Wahoos.

 

Wahoos 6 – Inmates 2 (The Reservation): A win in the final home game keeps the featherheads from being swept at home. Sanchez goes seven for the victory.

 

Inmates 8 – Wahoos 7 (The Baptist Bowl): A see-saw affair won by Rizzo’s three-run HR in the 7^th (his 2^nd homer of the game).

 

Inmates 4 – Wahoos 0 (The Baptist Bowl): The ignominy continues with the ‘Hoos managing only two hits off of Salazar in a complete game effort.

 

Inmates 2 – Wahoos 1 (15 innings – The Baptist Bowl): Just when it couldn’t get worse for the Chief, it did. Betances tosses 5 2/3 of excellent relief, only to have Melancon practice self-immolation in the bottom of the 15^th. Segura led off getting HBP, then after Gattis fanned Altuve singled Segura to third. Altuve then stole second, bringing in the infield and outfield. Jones hit a game-ending single to send the Chief back to the metroplex almost empty-handed.

Warpigs 5, Inmates 1

The Inmates made the drive up to the BallPork for some cards and dice today.

First 3 games at The BallPork

Gm1 - Warpigs win 5-2 - Lance Lynn (12-7) threw 6 innings of 2-hit, shutout ball. Brock Holt went 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Gm2 - Warpigs win 8-5 - The Pigs battered Jose Quintana for 8 runs in 4 innings. Troy Tulowitzki and Victor Martinez both homered. The Inmates threatened late, but Darren O'Day closed it out for his 3rd save. Garrett Richards (13-4) got the win.

Gm3 - Warpigs win 4-0 - Adam Wainwright (20-5) held the Inmates to 2 hits over 7 innings in the shutout. Robinson Cano, Jayson Werth, and Yadier Molina all homered for the Warpigs.

Last 3 games at The Baptist Bowl

Gm4 - Inmates win 4-3 - Adam Jones homered twice to support the pitching of Michael Pineda. Adrian Beltre provided all of the Pig offense with 2 homers of his own. R.A. Dickey (13-10) took the loss.

Gm5 - Warpigs win 11-7 - This was a wild one. In the 2nd inning, Adrian Beltre not only stole 2nd on a missed hit-and-run (it was 1-4), but also advanced to 3rd on the overthrow. And even though this came with nobody out, he didn't score. The same inning, the Inmates had 1st and 3rd with no outs, and ALSO didn't score - the last out coming on a clutch pop out. The following inning, the Pigs scored 6 runs, but even that didn't put the game away. Garrett Richards (14-4) got the win, but wasn't very good. The bullpen bailed him out except for O'Day, who forgot how to get people out. The game was 9-7 Pigs going to the 9th when Adam Jones, a 1e6 in cf, dropped a ball for a 3-base error to start the inning. That forced the infield to play in, and Justin Morneau slapped a single past the drawn in third baseman. Joe Smith went 2 innings for his 16th save. The Warpigs scored 11 runs without getting a single extra base hit. They had 12 singles, 8 walks, and 2 HBP.

Gm6 - Warpigs win 3-1. Victor Martinez hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning, and Lance Lynn (13-7) made it hold up. Joe Smith got save #17.

6/22 - Josh Donaldson rocketed 2 homeruns as the DRILLERS beat the 

NADS by the score of 9 to 2.

8/28 -Josh Harrison had 2 base hits at Kauffman Stadium where the E NADS beat the

DRILLERS 9 to 3.

 

8/29 - Jose Ramirez had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the E NADS

beat the DRILLERS 8 to 3.

4/9 - Right fielder Alex Rios had 2 base hits and Wade Miley went 7 solid innings as 

the NADS defeated the FUNGOES by a score of 3 to 0

4/10  - In a tight game it was the DEREK FUNGOES 5, the DAVE NADS 3 

4/11 -Stroman(4-1) put on a good performance.  He allowed only 6 hits and no walks

 in 9 innings. as the NADS topped the FUNGOES by a score of 8 to 2

9/10 – gm 1 -FUNGOES had very little trouble at Kauffman Stadium downing the DAVE

NADS.  The score was 6 to 1.

9/10 GM2 - It was a good day Arcia.  He singled in the 2nd inning,

doubled which plated a run in the 3rd inning and blasted a two-run home run

in the 8th inning.  NADS won 15 to 2

9/11 -Daniel Murphy had 3 base hits as the FUNGOES defeated the NADS by

2 to 1

9/12 -Clayton Kershaw shut out  the  NADS 1 to 0

Game 1 @ The Reservation - Warpigs 9, Wahoos 3 - The Pigs pounded out 15 hits to overcome a 2-homer game by Edwin Encarnacion. Lance Lynn (11-7) wasn't at his best, but went 6 innings for the win. Victor Martinez went 3-5 with a 3-run homer.

Game 2 @ The BallPork - Warpigs 2, Wahoos 1 - The Wahoos plated a run in the 1st on a sac fly. That 1-0 lead held up until the 6th. Justin Verlander was pulled after allowing a single (and stolen base!) to VMart, and Mark Melancon came on and surrendered a 2-run homer to Adrian Beltre. Aaron Loup got his 1st win of the year and Pedro Strop earned his 7th save, but they both pitched only a third of an inning each; the pitching star was Joe Smith who went 2.2 innings in between.

Zaps 3, Tweeners 2

Game One- In a pitcher duel, Kluber and King Felix both fanned 13. The
Zaps had an early 1-0 lead, but Logan County got two unearned runs in
the 7th thanks to an outfield boot by Bautista and a Martin error on a
dribbler in front of the plate. Hernandez started the 9th, but gave up a
triple, single, and double to tie the game. Rasmus came in and coughed
up a game winning hit to Rendon. Good Guys 3 Bad Guys 2.
Game Two-, Mad Bum bested Scherzer through seven innings, but the
Tweener pen against failed to hold the lead allowing the Zaps to score
three in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game. Yan Gomes hit a two-run
double in the top of the 10th, and Zack Duke nailed down the save
despite giving up a run in the bottom of the frame.
Game Three- Gio and Hamels dueled through seven and left the game tied,
but the Tweener pen again failed the visitors late in the game when
Rasmus gave up a tater to Jose Reyes for a 3-2 home team squeaker.
Game Four- King Felix dominated through 8 innings again, and made it to
the 9th with a nine run lead. The Zaps rallied for five  runs to know
out Hernandez, but still fell way short in a 9-5 loss.
Game Five- Bumgarner gave up five runs in the first inning (reminiscent
of a Black Sox thrown game) and eight runs total as Hamels and the pen
cruised to a 8-3 triumph in the getaway game.

Rhinos 3 – Inmates 1 (Baptist Bowl): Hudson two-hits the LDMF. Only Reddick’s homer keeps the BCG from being shutout.

 

Inmates 2 – Rhinos 0 (Baptist Bowl): A two-run Rizzo tater is all the scoring in the game.

 

Rhinos 3 – Inmates 1 (Baptist Bowl): The dearth of offense for both teams continues. Kelly wins the pitcher’s duel.

 

Warpigs 9 – Inmates 3 (BallPork): Ugly game. Inmates generate hits but no offense or defense. Pigs blast Norris.

 

Inmates 6 – Warpigs 1 (BallPork): Quintana shuts down the Evil Empire offense; six Pig pitchers allow four Inmate runs in the 7^th.

 

Inmates 6 – Rhinos 5 (Rhino Reserve): Back-to-back doubles by Reddick and Ramirez in the 8^th score the winning run for the Inmates.

 

Inmates 4 – Rhinos 2 (Rhino Reserve): Rhinos run out of gas. Rizzo taters for the Inmates.

 

Rhinos 3 – Inmates 2 (Rhino Reserve): All runs score on homers. The Inmate downfall was theirs were all solo shots.

 

Inmates 4 – Rhinos 1 (Rhino Reserve): Two-run Reddick homer in the 8^th ices the game for the Beakless Chicken Gang.

 

Inmates 8 – Warpigs 3 (Baptist Bowl): O’Day serves up a grand-salami to Reddick to blow open a close game.

 

Warpigs 4 – Inmates 3 (Baptist Bowl): A Pig three-spot in the 5^th is enough to carry the game.

 

Fungoes 9 – LDMF 0 (Baptist Bowl): LDMF get four hits off of Gibson; the Fungi get a million off of everyone on the LDMF staff.

 

Fungoes 3 – Inmates 2 (Baptist Bowl): All of the Fungo runs come in the top of the 1^st. The Inmates get ten hits, but can’t bunch them together.

 

Inmates 11 – Fungoes 3 (Baptist Bowl): Kershaw gets ripped for five runs in three innings, and Cishek gets pounded for four more in the 8^th.

 

Inmates 6 – Fungoes 5 (12 innings – Baptist Bowl): See-saw game with the Inmates launching four homers. Reddick hit a solo shot in the last of the 9^th to send the game into overtime; Jones hit a fat one off of Robertson’s card in the 12^th for the Inmate win.

 

Fungoes 8 – Inmates 6 (WTF): Fungoes score eight runs on seven hits. The Inmates can’t battle back.

 

Inmates 8 – Fungoes 1 (WTF): Kershaw punishing time again. McHugh gets the win.

 

Inmates 6 – Fungoes 5 (WTF): Inmates jump out in front 6-0, then hang on.

Warpigs 4, Drillers 1

Netplay again. Games played at The BallPork.

Game 1 - Warpigs win 7-0. Garrett Richards tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only 1 single. He walked 1 and struck out 11. Robinson Cano homered for the Pigs.

Game 2 - Warpigs win 5-2 in 12 innings. Both teams hit solo BP homers (1-4) in the first inning. Then Troy Tulowitzki hit another one in the bottom of the 12th for the walk off win.

Game 3 - Warpigs win 6-3. The Pigs scored 4 in the 1st and then held on. R.A. Dickey got the win and Joe Smith the save.

Game 4 - Drillers win 5-4. Jose Abreu homered and Alex Cobb pitched just well enough to win. Joe Beimel came in to get Robby Cano out to end the game with the tying run on 3rd.

Game 5 - Warpigs win 9-0. Garrett Richards again handcuffed the Drillers, allowing 3 hits over 7 shutout innings. Jon Jay went 3-3 with 3 RBI and Tulo hit another homer.

Netplay. All games at Driller Park.

Game 1 - Drillers win 4-1. Garrett Richards lost his perfect game in the 4th. He lost his no-hit bid in the 6th. He lost his shutout and the game in th 7th. The Pigs stranded 10 runners - which would have been more except for the 3 DPs. Conor Gillaspie was the hero, rolling what would be a night-long stretch of 3-5, double.

Game 2 - Drillers win 3-1. Dallas Kuechel started for the Drillers, but after the first 2 batters went single, double, Kuechel left the game with a blister. Luke Gregerson came on, and after walking the first batter to load the bases, recorded a strikeout and another double play grounder. It would, amazingly, be the only DP the Pigs hit into, but it was enough to pyschologically destroy any hopes of success. Gillaspie continued his destruction of the Pigs with 3 more hits.

Game 3 - Warpigs win 8-3. Adrian Beltre led off the game with a homer, and Victor Martinez hit a 3-run shot in the 5th to back the complete game effort of R.A. Dickey.

Game 4 - Drillers win 6-4. Jose Abreu homered and Gillaspie hit another frigging double. Adam Wainwright lost for only the 3rd time in 18 starts. A Warpig rally in the 7th made it interesting, but fell short when A.J. Pollock missed a potential game-tying ballpark homer (1-8) to end the inning.

Game 5 - Warpigs win 3-1. Jose Fernandez allowed just 5 singles and 2 walks while striking out 12 in the complete game victory.

Both teams scored 17 runs in the Tweener Split.

Summer League Rules

There will be 11 of us participating. The Tweeners reluctantly declined, but was nice enough to help us by using his 20-sided die to determine our draft order.

 

Here are the rules we'll be going with...

 

1. 20-man rosters. 12 hitters, 4 SP, and 4 relievers. There are minimums on AB/IP as to who can do what, but once eligible, there will be no counting of AB/IP during the season.

 

2. The season will be 100-games long. Just the one division of 11 teams, so you will play everybody 10 times. Your rotation will be a simple 1-2-3-4 all the way thru regardless of days off, so each SP will get 25 starts.

 

3. No DH (so you'll have 4 non-pitchers on your bench)

4. No Ballpark or clutch. Sorry about this, but many of the old years on the computer game don't include that data.

5. AB/IP minimums:

• SP must have 200+ innings on their cards
• RP must have 50+ innings on their cards
• Hitters in the starting lineup must each have 400+ AB (or 500+ PA) on their cards
• Bench players have no minimum, but they cannot start if they don't qualify as starters

6. Outfielders can play any OF spot using the SOM rules for players out of position. Otherwise, players are limited to the positions on their card.

7. There is no need to have a backup for each position.

 

8. As for game rules, I'll try to use the same things we use in NASOMA (DVs, I may need your help).

 

9. I am attaching a CM template. You can use it or use your own. I can re-send this later with your roster already on it.

 

10. In trying to figure out the best (quickest) way to do the draft, I've decided we will have 10 rounds of 2-picks each round. Again, you will need to draft 12 hitters, 4 starting pitchers, and 4 relievers using the AB/IP guidelines listed above. I will send out reminders of who has been taken and what you still need to fill out your roster. Once you pick they player, let me know which year of that player you want to use. If you want to know a player's defensive ratings for a particular year, just ask. There's no need to tell me the year right away; just do it when you have decided.

Game 1 – Snakes win 7-1 as Lester befuddles DV hitters.

Game 2 – DVs win 3-2 as the DV bullpen actually holds a lead

Game 3 – Netplay problems raise their ugly head as the game goes into the bottom of the 11^th tied, only to be held up 30 minutes as connection is reestablished, lost, reestablished, lost, wash, rinse, spin, repeat. Apparently Didi Gregorius put that time to good use hitting in the cage in the tunnel or watching film of Dan Otero as he hit the first pitch he saw into the stands for the walk off homer.

5/26/15 SSWs win 5-1 behind Lester and Chapman. Josh Hamilton homered

 

5/27 Goofs jump all over Bartolo Colon and Tony Watson for 7-1victory. Duda goes yard and drives in 4.

 

5/28 Snakes win 5-1 again behind 8 strong innings by Sale. Again their only run is a Josh Hamilton solo shot.

 

8/3/15 On gay pride night, Dee singles in DiDi in bottom of 13th for a 2-1 Sidewinder win. Chapman gets the win and Chavez is the loser 

 

8/4/15 Snakes win 6-3 behind Colon and Kimbrel with offense provided by Belt and Ortiz who homered. Lohse takes the loss. Alexei Ramirez homered twice for the Goofs.

 

8/5/15 Cueto and Kimbrel lead the Snakes to a 2-1 victory. Uribe knocked in Billy in bottom of the 8th for the go ahead run making a loser of Huston Street. Duda hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second for the Goofs

 

8/6/15 Hughes, Street and Benoit scatter 9 hits in shutting out the Sidewinders 4-0.

Hunter's homer in the top of the 7th chases Lester who takes the loss.

6/12 – Tweeners 3, Drillers 1.  12 inning affair ends on a walk-off homer by Cliff Pennington, much to the embarrassment of Joe Beimel.  Dr. Quackenabush gets credit for the victory.

6/13 – Drillers 6, Tweeners 2.  Luke Gregerson had a strong outing as the SHAWN DRILLERS bested the NORM

TWEENERS 6 to 2 at The Hoover Dome.

 

Scott Kazmir(3-1) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win.  He

went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 walk and was touched for 2

homeruns.  Overall SHAWN out-hit NORM 14 to 5. 

 

Gregerson preserved the game for Kazmir, recording his his 1st save.  The

losing pitcher was Madison Bumgarner(10-10).  He gave up 11 hits and no walks

in 6 and 1/3 innings. 

 

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.  Man alive, things were getting awfully

grim,' noted SHAWN's manager.  'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins

together and turn things around!'  Turns out he’s a fucking prophet.

 

8/19 – Drillers 2, Tweeners 1.  Alex Cobb went 8 solid innings at The Hoover Dome where the SHAWN DRILLERS

beat the NORM TWEENERS 2 to 1.

SHAWN wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 2

runs on 3 base hits.  That was all the runs Cobb(1-1) needed.  NORM made it

exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Cobb got relief help from Joakim Soria who gained credit for his 1st save.

Hisashi Iwakuma(6-7) ended up with the loss.  'Just one or two mistakes were

all it took to beat us today' George Brett said.  'We take these games one

day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'

 

8/20 – Drillers 3, Tweeners 1.  Christian Yelich had 5 hits and Scott Kazmir racked up an impressive total of

11 strikeouts as the SHAWN DRILLERS defeated the NORM TWEENERS in 14 innings

by a score of 3 to 1 at The Hoover Dome.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  SHAWN came out on top

in the 14th inning.  Yelich opened up the inning nicely when he doubled.  One

out later, Jose Abreu came to the plate and hit a deep fly.  Josh Donaldson

then slapped a base-hit.  Melky Cabrera stepped in and he doubled.  SHAWN had

13 hits overall, while NORM had 7.  

The win went to Alex Torres(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Joakim Soria

recorded his 2nd save.  The losing pitcher was Drew Smyly(3-4) in relief.  He

pitched 2 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.

 

8/21 – Drillers 8, Tweeners 0.  James Shields went 9 strong innings as the SHAWN DRILLERS defeated the NORM

TWEENERS by a score of 8 to 0 at The Hoover Dome.

SHAWN wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they came up

with 4 runs on 4 hits.  That early run support was all that Shields(1-3)

required.  SHAWN rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.  

Gio Gonzalez(5-5) was charged with the loss.  He allowed 4 hits and 5 walks in

7 and 2/3 innings.

Drillers 3, Sidewinders 2

4/3 Snakes win 4-3. Kazmir goes the distance in

the loss, Ross is the winner and Kimbrel gets the save

 

4/4 Snakes win on Gordon single in 9th to score Wright. 5-4 is the final, Kimbrel with thewinand Shawis the loser

 

4/5  In a game where the teams combined for 6 HR, the Drillers win by scoring a run on a bases loaded walk in the top of the 10th. Chapman walked the aptly named Neil Walker to make a loser of Kimbrel. Soria with the win and Torres gets the save,

 

5/6 Keuchel dominates in a CG win 6-2 Abreu and Rollins homer for the DD

5/7 An early exit by Kazmir and the driller pen no hits the snakes for the last 6 1/3 for a 4-2 driller victory closing the season series at 5-5

Sanchez vs. Cosart

Harrison homered in the first. Wahoos erupted for four runs in the third thanks to a big two-run single from De Aza. Pedroia (1e4) made an error in the fourth. Great. Here we go now. Luckily we limited Nads to only three in the inning. Wahoos ended up scoring in the third-eighth innings but had to hold off a five-run rally in the 9th to win 14-10. That ninth inning included 3 homers.

Zimmerman vs. Miley

It happened again. This time a two-run homer for Frazier in the first. Wahoos answered for three in the second to jump on top. Frazier went deep again in the sixth. Nads kept hitting. Wahoos scored three in the ninth to only lose 10-7.

Arrieta vs. Tillman

Wahoos get on the board first with three runs in the second. Nads strung together some hits and scored a pair in the sixth. After some timely hitting and crappy defense, Nads tie it 6-6 in the eighth. Each team got a run in the 12th. Finally, in the 13th, Aoki drove in the winner. Wahoos win, 8-7.

Into the bottom of the fifth, Nads lead 2-1. So the Wahoos walk the bases loaded. And don't score. We get to the ninth. Both starters still in. Aoki scratches a leadoff single. Desmond follows with a BP homer. Wahoos win, 3-2.
