2013 Season Preview

MFD

1. Buckeyes - New division rivals won't cause any concern in Buckeyeville. Dickey and Hamels will be the headline players on this team. The Buckeye knows how to win, whether it's a pitchers' park or a hitters'. Look for the Buckeyes to be 20+ games above .500 when they leave the draft. Things will snowball from there. I don't know how he does it - I just know that HE knows.

2. Zaps - The Zaps won't be as good as the back-to-back title winning Zaps, but with triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera and Andrew McCutchen, they'll be hard to beat. And with young studs D'Arnaud, Machado, and Rendon in tow, the Zaps will be good for a long while.

3. Mavs - The Mavs are poised to be the surprise winners of this tough division. Bryce Harper, Chase Headley, and Jason Heyward lead the offense. Matt Cain is the ace. This team bears watching.

4. Drillers - The Drillers could win the MFD or they could finish last. I know this: Don't throw lefties against him. Posey and Longoria will feast on LHP.

AWD

1. SuperGoofs - Yeah, I said it. The Goofs will win the AWD. With Darvish heading up the rotation and Hamilton in the middle of the order, the biggest question will be: Will the Goofs be ready to roll dice in the post season?

2. Sidewinders - The Snakes are attempting the impossible - They are trying to rebuild and win at the same time. A tricky business. We've all tried it. We've all failed at it. The Snake future might actually look brighter since the roster holds the likes of Kipnis, Profar, and Sliding Billy Hamilton; but you have to like their chances this year too, what with David "Captain America" Wright, Joe Mauer, and Derek Jeter leading the offense. And you can never count out a team who can close out games with Craig Kimbrel.

3. Tweeners - I don't know if you heard, but the Tweeners were ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE WORLD SERIES. This year's team might not be as good as last year's... or they could be better. They've still got Morse and Sandoval and Zobrist. Scutaro will also play a pivotal role, and Rosario is becoming a Rocky Mountain Monster. And to think I used to get him confused with Mesoraco. The strength of the team will be King Felix, Madbum, and Gio in the rotation, and Hanrahan and Romo in the pen.

4. Killer Bees - Bunch of good, young guys like Teheran, Freeman, and Castro; but the trading away of Cueto sent up a red flag around The Hive - or was it a white flag? The Bees have talent, but they appear to be playing for 2014. If they start bagging up their bats in the 6th inning and getting in their moms' vans to leave games early... we'll know.

HWD

1. Rhinos - The World Series runner-up Rhinos are still loaded. The lineup is as scary as ever, although injuries took their toll. But still... Votto, Kemp, Tulo, Braun, Cano... You can't overlook a team with that kind of talent. The pitching holds the key to a return trip to the Series.

2. Fungoes - Mike Trout isn't the only talent on this team, but he's the one you'll notice the most. Well, until Kershaw shuts you out. Or David Price. Or until you try to come back in the 9th inning against Aroldis Chapman.

3. Inmates - A telling quote from the Inmate camp: "Wouldn't you know we'd move into a division with the Rhinos and Fungoes in a year when we'd EASILY win the old MFD? I mean, am I wrong or are we at least 20 games better than either the Buckeyes or the Mavs?!?" Best asset of the Inmates is those young pitchers coming back from injuries: Beachy, Pineda, Anderson, Chacin. Well, and the defense is pretty good.

4. Nads - The Nads are led by Miguel Montero, Adrian Gonzalez, and Josh Willingham. The pitching staff is anchored by C.J. Wilson and the "Fister to the Nads." That's all I got. Go Nads!

BUD

1. DVs - The defending champs are back for more. A right-handed powerhouse of Stanton, Holliday, Craig, Kinsler, and Aramis Ramirez will score plenty of runs. Doc Halladay had an off year, but Weaver is good enough to pick up the slack. But then again, these are the DVs... maybe instead of repeating, they start their second 20-year plan.

2. Warpigs - The roster has been almost completely turned over. Out with the old, in with the new. The Pigs will give the DVs a run for his money. The offense is led by Encarnacion, Y.Molina, and Cespedes, but the pitching staff is the best part of this team. The rotation and bullpen are both deep, and having the first pick in the draft will make the staff even deeper.

3. FFTs - Pujols by himself means the FFTs will be hard to beat. The young talent will be fun to watch: Bundy, Bauer, Pomeranz, J.Montero. The 2013 FFTs may struggle, but this team is going to be good very soon.

4. Wahoos - Due to demerits, the Wahoos were limited to a maximum of 16 players on their cutdown roster. The biggest fear on The Reservation was being forced to keep a MINIMUM of 16 players. But the Wahoos have a ton of early draft picks, so they'll be okay.
