DVs 3, Goofs 2

In an Easter-eggstravaganza, the DVs took 3 of 5 from the SuperGoofs in the DV Dome. Here’s the recap:
Game 1 – To the shock and amazement of the DV faithful, Roy Halladay wins a game as he holds off the Goofs in a 3-2 thriller.
Game 2 – Yu Darvish skips the traditional Easter clubhouse buffet and dines on the hapless DV bats as the Goofs win comfortably 6-2.
Game 3- Stop me if you’ve heard this before, the DVs score all their runs on solo home runs and win 2-0.
Game 4- Goofs bats awake early as they plate 3 runs in the top of the first. The DVs really awaken in the bottom of the first as the first 9 batters reach base (Clayton Richard only saw the first 7 before he was pulled), and they end up scoring 9 total runs in the frame. From there the fans barely stay awake from the large Easter dinner as the DVs prevail 13-6 behind a Paul Maholm sloppy complete game.
Game 5 – Jacked up on jelly beans and Reese’s peanut butter eggs, the Goofs ride 2 Josh Hamilton home runs to a 9-5 win. Colby Lewis gets the complete game win as Halladay gets crushed once again as he’s seen later abusing a chocolate bunny in the clubhouse.

Warpigs 4, Zaps 1

The Pigs dodge the demerit man with 5 games vs the Zaps.

In games played here at the BallPork, the Pigs won two.

Game 108 - Pigs win 6-5. Yadier Molina hit a 3-run homer, Prince Fielder hit a 2-run shot, but it took a 2-out, walkoff single & error on a ss-x roll by Austin Jackson to win the game. Darwin Barney scored the winning run.

Game 109 -Pigs win 7-6. In a 5-run 7th, Edwin Encarnacion hit a 2-run double, and Yadier Molina hit a 3-run homer.

In games played at the Zap minor league park at Lake Havasu, the visiting Pigs went 2-1.

Game 137 - Zaps win 6-5. The Zaps took a 5-3 lead to the 9th, but the Pigs scored twice to tie it. The Zaps then won in the bottom of the 9th on an unearned run. Jose Reyes had the game winner.

Game 138 -Pigs win 6-2. Jordan Zimmermann allowed a homer to Miguel Cabrera, but the Zaps could only muster 3 additional hits off of Zimmermann. Nate Schierholtz drove in 2 for the Pigs.

Game 139 - Pigs win 3-1. Adam Wainwright and Brad Ziegler combine to hold the Zaps to 5 hits. Edwin Encarnacion homered for the Pigs.

Thanks to the Zapper for taking time out of his vacation to play these.

Goofs 4, FFTs 1

Games played at FFTs. Goofs avoid the demerit for March.

Zaps 3, Goofs 2

Game 1- Griffin handcuffs the Zap bats and the Goofs cruise 4-1.
Game 2- Goldschmidt knocks in five runs with two taters and powers the
Zaps to a 10-8 win in a slugfest.
Game 3- Zaps tie the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th, but the
Goofs score in the top of the 10th and Byrdak gets the save.
Game 4- Hill's three-run bomb powers the Zap offense on the way to a 5-3
win.
Game 5-Super Goofs score three in the top of the 8th to tie the game,
but Matt Joyce smacks a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th to send the
fans home with a grin and a win in the rubber game.

Goofs 3, Fungoes 2

Goofs win 3 of 5 at Fungoes!
June 6, Fungoes win 6 - 2. David Price picks up the win while Clayton Richard takes the loss for the SGs!
June 7, Fungoes win 4 - 1. Clayton Kershaw picks up the win for the WTFers while Matt Harrison is tagged with the loss.
August 18, SuperGoofs win this one 5 - 0 behind the mastery of Yu Darvish. Darvish throws a complete game three hit shutout! Shiftuck!!!
August 19, SuperGoofs win again 3 - 1. Kyle Lohse picks up the win for the Goofers! Tazawa gets the save. Brad Lincoln takes the loss for the Fungies!
August 20, SuperGoofs win again 8 - 0. This time Matt Harrison goes the distance and he throws a complete game three hit shutout!
WTF!!!!!

Goofs 3, Inmates 2

Inmates earned a Tweener split versus the Goofs via netplay. All games were in the GoofDome.
GOOFS 3 – LDMF 0: Parker throws the first Inmate CG of the year, to no avail. Hamilton cheats and taters in the 1st while the LDMF scratch out three measly hits against Griffin.
INMATES 7 – GOOFS 5: A 3-run homer by Tor2 Hunter in the 6th puts the Goofmen up 5-4, but Beltre hits a 2-run blast in the 7th to put the Beakless Chicken Gang up for good.
GOOFS 3 – LDMF 0: Game 1 redux, except the LDMF get 5 hits and the winning pitcher is Lohse. FFFFUUUUCCCCKKK we can’t hit.
GOOFS 4 – INMATES 2: The “great” Inmate defense makes three errors, but none cause runs to score. Inmates get beat by Colby Fucking Lewis.
INMATES 4 – GOOFS 2: Harrison implodes in the 5th when the Inmates score all 4 runs. The Goofs can’t catch up.

Warpigs 3, SuperGoofs 0

The Warpigs and Goofs faced off this morning for 3 face to face games USING DICE AND CARDS! I applaud the Goofs for diving in and giving the "old way" a shot.

1. Warpigs 8, Goofs 6 - @ Goofy World - The Goofs led 6-2 going into the 8th. Edwin Encarnacion came on then to pinch hit a single, making it 6-3. Then in the 9th, after Yadier Molina homered to make it 6-5, Encarnacion again came through - this time with a 2-out, game tying single. Austin Jackson and Darwin Barney followed with RBI singles to give the Pigs an 8-6 lead. Fernando Rodney pitched the 9th to record yet another save.

2. Warpigs 10, Goofs 1 - @ Goofy World - Quintin Berry was the unlikely star, going 4-for-5 with 2 stolen bases and a triple. He scored twice and knocked in 3. Darwin Barney, in his first start of the year, also went 4-for-5. Jordan Zimmerman lost his shutout in the 9th.

3. Warpigs 4, Goofs 3 - @ The BallPork - The Pigs scored 4 in the 3rd, the last 2 coming on a homer by Yoenis Cespedes. The Pig pitchers then hung on for the win. Fernando Rodney finished up for his 9 save in the team's first 15 games of the year.

Warpig Update

The Pigs played 12 games at the Draft, going 10-2.

All games were D&C except the first game against the Zaps.

1. Warpigs 4, Drillers 3 - @ Driller Park - The powerful Brandon Crawford hit the first Pig homer of the year. Fernando Rodney earned the save.

2. Warpigs 6, Drillers 5 - @ Driller Park - Edwin Encarnacion homered. Dillon Gee went 5 for the win. Rodney got another save.

3. Warpigs 7, Drillers 4 - @ The BallPork - Austin Jackson had 3 hits including a homer. Adam Wainwright went 8 innings for the win. Rodney saved his 3rd straight.

4. Drillers 8, Warpigs 7 - @ The BallPork - The Drillers blasted 6 homers. The Pigs left the tying run at 3rd in the 9th.

5. Warpigs 9, Drillers 6 - @ The BallPork - Four different Pigs homered in support of Stephen Strasburg's first game. Strasburg got the win and Rodney got another save.

6. Zaps 9, Warpigs 6 - @ The BallPork - In the only game I played on the computer, the Pigs fell behind early. A 9th inning rally fell short.

7. Warpigs 7, Zaps 3 - @ The BallPork - Wainwright threw a complete game. Yoenis Cespedes homered in the come from behind win.

8. Warpigs 11, Zaps 10 - @ The BallPork - The Zaps came back from a 5-2 deficit with a 6-run 6th. Runs in the 8th and 9th had the Zaps up 10-8, but the Pigs scored 3 in the 9th - all coming with 2 outs. Encarnacion had the big blast - a 2-out, 2-run homer in the 9th to tie the game. Rodney got the win. David Freese had the game winner: a walk-off single scoring Yadier Molina, who had doubled.

9. Warpigs 7, Zaps 2 - @ The VivaZaPasta Amusement Park - Jeremy Hellickson earned the win. J.J. Putz got the save. Darwin Barney put the icing on the cake with a 3-run double in the 8th.

10. Warpigs 9, Zaps 8 (in 11 innings) - @ The VivaZaPasta Amusement Park - The Pigs trailed 8-4 in the 7th when Austin Jackson hit a 2-run triple followed by Justin Ruggiano hitting a 2-run homer to tie the game. Jackson came through again in the 11th, singling in Brendan Ryan. Rodney then came on to get his 5th save.

11. Warpigs 11, Sidewinders 7 - @ The BallPork - Prince Fielder had 4 hits. Martin Prado and Molina both homered. Cliff Lee got the win. Rodney got another save.

12. Warpigs 4, Sidewinders 2 - @ The BallPork - Ruggiano, Molina, and Cespedes all hit solo shots. Strasburg got the win. Rodney got the save.

Post Draft Updates

The rosters on the main page are updated. Let me know if you find any mistakes.

The trades listed on the roster page (on a tab at the bottom) are as updated as can be. If you made trades at the Draft, let me know what they were. Especially if they involved picks in 2014.

The Draft results are posted now. I don't know how accurate they are, but they're there.

There's a new Gold Standard League out there. Thanks to Glenn and Terry for that. Be sure you use the latest one when you restore yours.

Join up on the tracker. As soon as everyone is in, we can start filling up our rosters.

My next project will be to get the W/L records updated. Please report all your series records to me ASAP. Some of you already have - thanks for that.

Minimum games for March is 20. I'm a few short. Goofs, let's play!

I'll try to write a Draft Review this week. All I know now is it will include "Tape a cheetah to her back."

The "Real" Official 2013 NASOMA Mock Draft

No more pretending. No more lies to see if I can get somebody to draft a player earlier than they should. No more trying to mislead. Here's the final, official, mock draft for the 2013 NASOMA...

1. Warpigs - Fernando Rodney. I would have been happy with Medlen, but I didn't want both and Rodney has the killer card. For what it's worth, Moss was going here before the Prince deal.

2. Sidewinders - Kris Medlen. The Snakes could still go with Andrelton Simmons, but Medlen is the smart pick.

3. Mavs - Jarrod Parker. The Mavs probably had a name in mind when he traded up for this pick, but I don't know what that name is. Medlen, maybe? Parker should be the guy here, unless you don't need pitching.

4. Drillers - Brandon Moss. Before the Fielder deal, there was a good chance Medlen fell to this spot. Oops. The Drillers are already going to pound lefties. Now they build up the power vs rhp too.

5. FFTs - Aaron Hill. Parker was on the wish list too, but the FFTs will be perfectly happy with Hill.

6. Inmates - Matt Harvey. Poor Matt. He was so hoping he'd go to the Zaps or Tweeners or ANYBODY but the fucking Inmates. TJ surgery will be later this summer.

7. Warpigs - Justin Ruggiano. Ruggiano or Grandal? I was hoping one would be gone before this pick so I wouldn't have to decide. Ruggiano is a reach at pick 7 (since he's 30 years old), but my next pick is 162. He would be gone by then, I think.

8. Zaps - Adam Eaton. Wanted Harvey. Gone. Wanted Medlen. Long gone. Wanted Parker. Shoulda traded up, I guess. This would be the perfect place to jump into that uncarded world, but the Zaps can't take an uncarded player this year.

9. Nads - Will Middlebrooks. Probably the steal of this draft (maybe even more than Medlen).

10. Tweeners - Yasmani Grandal. He's balanced. Hits for power. Great onbase. And gains in the clutch. Plus he's young and a switch-hitting catcher. He's also suspended for the first 50 games of the season.

11. Fungoes - Andrelton Simmons. If the Fungoes had picked first, this is who they would have taken. What luck! He's still there!

12. Drillers - Ryan Cook. Just don't screw up and say Aaron Cook. He sucks.

13. Tweeners - Adam LaRoche. Full-time gold glove winner. Decent numbers. Not terribly old. A nice pick here.

14. Wahoos - Oscar Taveras (uncarded). The Cardinal phenom will hit the big time just about the time the Wahoos return to the post season.

15. Wahoos - A.J. Griffin. Not a ton of innings for the SP-only right-hander, but he's another stud out of the A's camp.

16. DVs - Matt Carpenter. DVs need a left-handed stick, and he can back up in a lot of places. Starting 2b for the Cards, he should quickly replace that overrated Kinsler in the DV lineup.

2013 Season Preview

MFD

1. Buckeyes - New division rivals won't cause any concern in Buckeyeville. Dickey and Hamels will be the headline players on this team. The Buckeye knows how to win, whether it's a pitchers' park or a hitters'. Look for the Buckeyes to be 20+ games above .500 when they leave the draft. Things will snowball from there. I don't know how he does it - I just know that HE knows.

2. Zaps - The Zaps won't be as good as the back-to-back title winning Zaps, but with triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera and Andrew McCutchen, they'll be hard to beat. And with young studs D'Arnaud, Machado, and Rendon in tow, the Zaps will be good for a long while.

3. Mavs - The Mavs are poised to be the surprise winners of this tough division. Bryce Harper, Chase Headley, and Jason Heyward lead the offense. Matt Cain is the ace. This team bears watching.

4. Drillers - The Drillers could win the MFD or they could finish last. I know this: Don't throw lefties against him. Posey and Longoria will feast on LHP.

AWD

1. SuperGoofs - Yeah, I said it. The Goofs will win the AWD. With Darvish heading up the rotation and Hamilton in the middle of the order, the biggest question will be: Will the Goofs be ready to roll dice in the post season?

2. Sidewinders - The Snakes are attempting the impossible - They are trying to rebuild and win at the same time. A tricky business. We've all tried it. We've all failed at it. The Snake future might actually look brighter since the roster holds the likes of Kipnis, Profar, and Sliding Billy Hamilton; but you have to like their chances this year too, what with David "Captain America" Wright, Joe Mauer, and Derek Jeter leading the offense. And you can never count out a team who can close out games with Craig Kimbrel.

3. Tweeners - I don't know if you heard, but the Tweeners were ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE WORLD SERIES. This year's team might not be as good as last year's... or they could be better. They've still got Morse and Sandoval and Zobrist. Scutaro will also play a pivotal role, and Rosario is becoming a Rocky Mountain Monster. And to think I used to get him confused with Mesoraco. The strength of the team will be King Felix, Madbum, and Gio in the rotation, and Hanrahan and Romo in the pen.

4. Killer Bees - Bunch of good, young guys like Teheran, Freeman, and Castro; but the trading away of Cueto sent up a red flag around The Hive - or was it a white flag? The Bees have talent, but they appear to be playing for 2014. If they start bagging up their bats in the 6th inning and getting in their moms' vans to leave games early... we'll know.

HWD

1. Rhinos - The World Series runner-up Rhinos are still loaded. The lineup is as scary as ever, although injuries took their toll. But still... Votto, Kemp, Tulo, Braun, Cano... You can't overlook a team with that kind of talent. The pitching holds the key to a return trip to the Series.

2. Fungoes - Mike Trout isn't the only talent on this team, but he's the one you'll notice the most. Well, until Kershaw shuts you out. Or David Price. Or until you try to come back in the 9th inning against Aroldis Chapman.

3. Inmates - A telling quote from the Inmate camp: "Wouldn't you know we'd move into a division with the Rhinos and Fungoes in a year when we'd EASILY win the old MFD? I mean, am I wrong or are we at least 20 games better than either the Buckeyes or the Mavs?!?" Best asset of the Inmates is those young pitchers coming back from injuries: Beachy, Pineda, Anderson, Chacin. Well, and the defense is pretty good.

4. Nads - The Nads are led by Miguel Montero, Adrian Gonzalez, and Josh Willingham. The pitching staff is anchored by C.J. Wilson and the "Fister to the Nads." That's all I got. Go Nads!

BUD

1. DVs - The defending champs are back for more. A right-handed powerhouse of Stanton, Holliday, Craig, Kinsler, and Aramis Ramirez will score plenty of runs. Doc Halladay had an off year, but Weaver is good enough to pick up the slack. But then again, these are the DVs... maybe instead of repeating, they start their second 20-year plan.

2. Warpigs - The roster has been almost completely turned over. Out with the old, in with the new. The Pigs will give the DVs a run for his money. The offense is led by Encarnacion, Y.Molina, and Cespedes, but the pitching staff is the best part of this team. The rotation and bullpen are both deep, and having the first pick in the draft will make the staff even deeper.

3. FFTs - Pujols by himself means the FFTs will be hard to beat. The young talent will be fun to watch: Bundy, Bauer, Pomeranz, J.Montero. The 2013 FFTs may struggle, but this team is going to be good very soon.

4. Wahoos - Due to demerits, the Wahoos were limited to a maximum of 16 players on their cutdown roster. The biggest fear on The Reservation was being forced to keep a MINIMUM of 16 players. But the Wahoos have a ton of early draft picks, so they'll be okay.

Depth Charts

The team logos on the home page link to depth charts of each team. These have been updated. I'm not 100% sure they are accurate - I'm confident you'll let me know if they're not. The order of the players at each position is fairly random, so it's not really a depth chart, other than it shows everybody you have at each position.

Draft Grid finalized

The Draft Grid has been finalized. So has the page where the picks are listed by team. If you have visited the site recently, you may have to hit refresh to get the updates. After rosters were set, the Draft Grid was tweaked to match the numbers of players everyone kept. Picks 1-149 were not affected, but picks 150+ were, however slightly.

Now everyone's PLAYERS + DRAFT PICKS = 30 + RESERVE PICKS + 2 (per the Tweener Rule). The optional Tweener Rule picks are highlighted on the team by team picks list. If you use those picks, you will have cuts to make after the draft.

Also, we will have the LIGHTNING ROUND again this year, although altered a little after what we learned from last year's inaugural attempt. Here are the rules for the LIGHTNING ROUND:
1. Any team can participate - but you have to draft for yourself - no proxies.
2. The LIGHTNING ROUND takes place immediately after the DRAFT.
3. Only carded, undrafted free agents are available to be drafted.
4. We draft in original DRAFT order.
5. You have 1 minute to make your pick. If you choose a player not available, you lose that turn and we move on to the next team.*
6. There will be 5 rounds.*
7. If you leave the room or pass in ANY ROUND (which includes going over your time limit), your night is over.

* These two rules (5&6) are slight changes from last year. There were too many times when ineligible names were called, slowing the process down. This year, if you call a name of a guy who is already gone (or who doesn't have a card), you lose that turn and we move on. Your night doesn't have to be OVER - we just move on. The 5 rounds is because... well, 10 was entirely too many.

And of course, you still have to turn in your final roster by Sunday - after making your cuts.
