From The HEAD INMATE...
Inmates continue to suck, getting blown out in 5 straight by the surrogate Rhinos. Last game was close, with Impotentmates losing on 3-run walk-off tater in bottom of the 11th, 9-6.
Shitfuck.4/19 - Rhinos win 7-4. Rhinos score 5 in the first off of Javier Vazquez.
4/20 - Rhinos win 6-3. ARod went 3-4 with a homer.
4/21 - Rhinos win 11-3. Johan Santana gets blistered for 9 runs in 4 innings.
7/15 - Rhinos win 12-4. Hanley Ramirez went 3-3 with 5 RBI. Matt Garza threw 6 shutout innings. Vazquez again gave up 5 runs in the first inning. His pregame ritual of getting soused on Tequila, while colorful and interesting, is not appearing to help him much.
7/16 - Rhinos win 9-6 in 11 innings. The Inmates rallied to tie the game in the top of the 9th, but Placido Polanco hit a walk off 3-run homer in the 11th.
The Rhinos hit .361 for the series, with ARod (.563), Polanco (.545), Ethier (.500), Votto (.471), and H.Ramirez (.429) all hitting over .400.

Standings Update 7/1/09
The run for the playoffs looks like this: the Warpigs, Buckeyes, and Drillers are pulling away in their respective divisions. The Zaps and Snakes are battling it out for the AWD. The race for the two wild card spots is between 6 teams: The Zap/Snake runner up, the DVs and Fungoes in the NERDD, and all three of the BUD teams trailing the Pigs.

5/14 - Goofs win 7-1 - Xavier Nady went 3-5 with a homer. Jeremy Guthrie threw a complete game for the Goofs, and only lost the shutout in the 9th on an Albert Pujols homer. Ervin Santana gets pounded again.

Here Comes July
Bees, Fungoes, Wahoos, and Inmates need to get some games played. And several of you need to get CMs sent out in the next few days. I have a feeling we're about to have our first demerits of the year. Don't say you weren't warned!
And just to be clear... if you have future games that will be played using a CM, you must have that CM sent out by July 4th.

Game 2 Snakes win 10-5 with the help of 8 walks by FFT pitching
Game 3 Regulation ends tied at 2. A Mauer single knocks in Bruce in the bottom of the 17th for the win.
Game 4 KRod enters the 9th with a 1 run lead and has a total meltdown. Pudge hit a 3 run HR and the FFTs win 10-7.
Game 5 Snakes win 4-1. Zambrano goes 7 and Bruce homers.
Game 6 Danks gets his shit together and shuts down the FFT bats this time. Snakes win 11-4 and draw 12 walks. Liriano takes the loss.
Game 7 Ted Lilly gets his first start of the year in the second game of the DH. He pitched 8 strong innings allowing 3 runs. Iwamura and Cantu homer for the FFTs. Fungoes and Nads faced off at Fungo Field today with the Nads winning 3 of 5. Here are the highlights:
Game 1: Fungoes win this one 4-2. Mussina picks up the win and Papelbon the save. Arroyo takes the loss. 'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Mussina, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
Game 2: Nads win 4-3. Saunders picks up the win and Saito the save. The loss goes to Volstad. Saunders took a shutout into the ninth as the Nads held on for the one run victory.
Game 3: Nads score two runs in the top of the ninth to win 5-4. Grilli gets the win in relief of Saunders. Saito gets another save. Papelbon takes the loss. 'The only way this one could have been better', said Grilli, 'was if we had played it at home.'
Game 4: Nads unleash a 17 hit attack and win this one 11-2! Left fielder Josh Willingham cracked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI for the Nads. Brian Bannister(4-4) allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Bannister got help from Ramon Ramirez who earned his 1st save. Mike Mussina(6-8) was hit with the loss. 'I felt great out there tonight' Willingham said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing, plus you know, the Fungoes got the absolute worst pitching in the league!!!"
Game 5: Scott Olson threw a complete game shutout for the win, winning it 9-0. Fungoes stole 5 bases in the first inning and wound up with 9 steals! 3 each for Span and Figgins. Webb takes the loss.

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners take 3 of 5 at the Hooverdome to finish the season 5-5 vs. DVs. How embarrassing for the boys in Tulsa. Oswalt goes the distance with no walks, 10 K's in game one, but we had to win it for him in the bottom of the 9th. With 2 outs Corey Hart missed the HR 1-9 walkoff chance, settling for a double. After Shane walked, Soriano connected for the 3-run walk-off. Beckett shut us down in game 2. Blanton and friends combined for a game 3 shutout; most of our offense was generated by repeatedly rolling the 6-10 double on Kazmir's card. Lannan outpitched Lowe for a 5-3 win in game 4. Harang can't match Halladay in game 5.

Game 133 - Nads win 7-5. Ervin Santana took another beating. Bronson Arroyo wasn't much better. Granderson came up in the 9th with a runner on first and no outs vs Takashi Saito, and even got a roll in his column... but it was the gap gbA. Roy Corcoran got the win in relief. Saito earned the save. Manny Ramirez homered twice for the Pigs.
Game 134 - Pigs win 4-2. The Nads homered twice in the first inning against Cliff Lee, but were shut out the rest of the way. The Pigs turned four double plays. Joe Saunders took the loss. Joakim Soria got the save.

The home team won all 7 games today. The Pigs went 7-3 vs the Fungoes this year.
June 7 - Pigs win 5-4 - Jeff Keppinger had a pinch hit RBI single in the 8th to break the 4-4 tie. Mike Napoli hit a 3-run homer in the 2nd inning for the Fungi.
June 8 - Pigs win 13-1 - Mike Mussina gave up 9 first inning runs. Cliff Lee went the distance for the Pigs and Keppinger had 4 hits.
July 19 - Pigs win 6-4 - Curtis Granderson and Jason Bay both homered in the win.
July 20 - Pigs win 6-4 - Albert Pujols and Chipper Jones hit back-to-back doubles in a 3-run bottom of the 8th against Jonathan Papelbon, leading the Pigs to a come from behind victory.

It's not like playing the DVs, where we can win without even trying. Seriously, it's a bitch to beat the Fungoes, while the DVs ARE our bitches. "

So in an ongoing effort to screw myself out of a playoff spot, while also not helping the psuedo-Rhinos any closer to a spot, the Goofs take 5 of 7 and the Rhinos win 3 of 5 from the Buckeyes. Rhinos scored more runs (20) in the 5 games vs. the Buckeyes than in 7 with the Goofs (18). SuperGoofs ace Mark Guthrie won two games, including a combined 2 hitter with Broxton. Only notable item in the Buckeyes series was that it ended in time for me to watch the Rangers lose to the Astros (Andrus was on base 3 times). DVs

Tweeners now 21-52, anticipating good draft position in 2011 as well as 2010.
The Goofs leapfrog the Rhinos into 2nd place in the BUD.

Game 1: Justin Duchscherer and the Pigs win 10-3. Ryan Doumit homered and Rafael Furcal had a 3-run double. The Pigs walked 11 times in the game. The Wahoo batters had 7 innings without a baserunner. And if not for a 2-out walk in the 9th, would have done it 8 times.
Game 2: Pigs win 6-1 behind John Lackey. Curtis Granderson went 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.
Game 3: Wahoos win 5-4 in 12 innings. The Pig defense sucked this game. The first 3 Wahoo runs scored on a Dustin Pedroia bases-loaded triple to Manny Ramirez, playing his first game of the year in LF. Then the winning run scored from second on a single and error on a ball hit to Rafael Furcal. Taylor Buchholz went the last 3 1/3 innings for the win.

The Rhinos swept a 5-game series against the Nads.
Rhinos scored 3 runs in one game, then 6 or more in the other 4, while the Nads totaled 9 runs in the 5 games while hitting .198. It helped the Rhino cause that Webb didn’t have a starting assignment.

Wahoos go 2-2 with the Rhinos to improve to 4-3 with them this year. Wahoos score 3 in the 9th of Game 2 to win it 7-6. Won Game 4, 2-1, as Lohse threw 8.1 of shutout ball before the Rhinos got a hit off Buchholz in the ninth to score a run. Rhinos won their games, 4-2 and 5-2.

The Pigs outscored the DVs 74-33 in the 10 games.
Game 1 - Pigs win 7-5 : Manny Ramirez hit a 2-run homer to bring the Warpigs from behind in the 7th inning. Albert Pujols went 3-5. Bobby Jenks took the loss.
Game 2 - Pigs win 6-2 : Justin Duchscherer got the win. Orlando Hudson had 3 hits.
Game 3 - Pigs win 5-3 : Ryan Doumit hit a grand slam. Cliff Lee got the win. Said Doumit, "It's even more satisfying to hit a grand slam when 2 of the 3 runners on base were intentionally walked."
Game 4 - Pigs win 8-2 : Manny hit a grand slam and a solo homer. Rich Harden gets the win.
Game 5 - DVs win 6-3 : Roy Halladay gets the win and Chase Utley homers. Friggin DVs getting ALL the breaks!!!

Wahoos go 2-1 with the Rhinos.
Game 1 goes 16!! innings. Wahoos hasd the bases loaded and less than 2 outs twice in extra innings. It was a Milton Bradley single in the 16th that won it, 4-3. No runs were scored between the 5th and 16th innings.
Game 2 was a big blowout. The Wahoos scored in 6 of 8 innings and only one batter didn't get a hit -- and he walked twice. Wahoos had 21 hits and led 7-0 after the first inning. The final score was 19-5.
Game 3 was 7-4 Rhinos. They jumped to a 4-0 lead then got 3 more. Wahoos scored 4 in the 8th and left 2 on in the ninth.

The Tweeners took 3 out of 5 from the Mavs at the Rastadome. It's an inverse Tweener split. Nick Swisher killed us. You may not hear that sentence a lot this year.

From the Tweeners...
Tweeners continue to discover new recipes for defeat. 3 of these 5 losses were in extra innings. In the other 2 games Aaron Harang turned in quality starts but we failed to score for him in either game. Game 2 was particularly hard to swallow. The Buckeyes scored a run in the first inning without benefit of a hit; their only hit later in the game was on a 1 to 7 split chance; Tweeners lose the one-hitter as Randy Johnson thows his own 2-hit shutout. Tweeners mathematically eliminated before Memorial Day.

Striving as best they can to be hapfull (is that the opposite of hapless(?) we need the Mavs or Inmates to contribute here), DVs go 11-3 vs. the FFTs, Super HAL managed the heck out of the FFT side, their bullpen had 39 innings and only surrendered 6 earned runs, and 11 of the games were decided by 1 or 2 runs. Now full of hap, the DVs comment: “Pigs still suck”

Heroes for the snakes included David Ortiz who for 5 games turned from Big Pop-up to Big Papi again(.429 BA 3HR) and the snakepen (9.1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB,10K and no runs)

Taylor Buchholz was 2-0 with a save in four games. He didn't allow a run in 4.2 innings.
Gil Meche was 2-0 with a complete game and 16.2 innings. He allowed 2 earned.
Kyle Lohse was 1-1 but had 1.93 ERA in 14 innings.
Cole Hamels struggle with 7 runs in 4.1 innings. The Wahoos did rally to win that game.
Dustin Pedroia hit .214 but had the game-winning double in the clutch (not good for him) in the game against Danks.
The team ERA was 2.83. The team batting average was .275.
The Wahoos hit 11 homers (allowed 4). Aramis Ramirez led the way with 3.
Ramirez (.375), Damon (.368) and Bradley (.333) all led the way in regulars' batting average.
Hairston Jr., Rowand and Reed Johnson combined for 3-for-28.
For the SSWs
Jake Peavy gave up 5 homers in 14 innings. He had a 6.43 ERA.
John Danks (2.35) and Rafael Perez (2.70) were both 0-1 despite great ERAs.
Jon Lester won the only game of the series by going 7.2 innings and allowing 4 runs.
Joe Mauer was 9-for-22 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
Jack Wilson was 4-for-12 and Derrek Lee was 8-for-25 as the only other regulars to hit over .300.
Taylor Teagarden was 0-for-3 with a walk in 4 PH tries.

The Wahoos swept 3 games against the Sidewinders.
The FFTs went 3-7 vs the SuperGoofs and 4-6 vs the Buckeyes. The FFTs only won 4 games against the Buckeyes, but all 4 wins were shutouts, including the last 3 games of the series.
If the playoffs were held today, the SuperGoofs would be in them.
Also, the FFTs traded Lyle Overbay to the Buckeyes for Augie Ojeda.

Game 1 - Fungoes 3, Warpigs 2 - Scott Olsen and three relievers shut down the Pigs on 6 hits. John Lackey threw a complete game, but allowed homers to Grady Sizemore and Joe Mather in the loss.
Game 2 - Warpigs 11, Fungoes 7 in 10 innings - The score was 7-7 after 3 innings, but the bullpens calmed those bats. The Fungoes had three 2-out walks in the 9th, but couldn't score. The Pigs scored 4 off of Jonathan Papelbon with 2 outs in the 10th. Brian Giles singled in a run. Another scored on a passed ball. Then pinch hitter Rafael Furcal singled in 2 more. Joakim Soria got the win. Manny Ramirez had 3 hits and 3 RBI. For the second game in a row, the Fungoes led off the game with a home run. It was Sizemore in the first game - Denard Span in this one.

Wahoos win the first 2 of the netplay series 4-2 and 8-7 (an Aramis Ramirez homer off Rafael Perez in extra innings completes the comeback in this win). Sidewinders win game 3, 7-4. It was 2-1 Wahoos until the SSWs exploded for 6 on the back of a couple homers, the big one a 3-run shot from John Baker.
Wahoos scored a couple in the 8th and had a man on in the ninth but couldn't get it done.

Warpigs 2, Tweeners 1

From the Tweener...
Pigs strut into Logan County for our final 3 game series, having already taken 7 straight from the lowly Tweeners. They proceed to stomp us 11-1 and 7-0, and the games were not as close as the scores might suggest. With Aaron Harang scheduled to start game 10, only a fool would have bet on the Tweeners. But Harang pitches his heart out, and the Tweeners take the 10th game 3-1, defying Mine That Bird-like odds. Rogue Pigs fans can stick those brooms up their ass, and their womenfolk can fly home on theirs. By taking 1 of 3 in the set, we raise our season winning percentage. All is well.

Inmates 2, Wahoos 0
From the HEAD INMATE...
Inmates roto-rooted the Wahoos at the Baptist Bowl today, winning game one in the 15th on a pinch double by Lind, and then pulling game two out in the bottom of the 9th on back-to-back doubles by Martinez and David Murphy and a game winning single by Howard, all off of Cole Hamels.
From the HEAD INMATE...

The Drillers and Wahoos faced off tonight with 10 dice games. The Drillers went 7-3 to increase their lead in the NERDD to 3 1/2 games over the DVs. The stumbling Wahoos dropped to a tie for the BUD cellar.

The Warpigs swept two from the Wahoos.
5/6 - Warpigs 10, Wahoos 3 - Jason Bay, Curtis Granderson, and Chipper Jones all homered in a 6-run 5th inning. Justin Duchscherer got the win; Gil Meche took the loss. Garrett Atkins also homered for the Pigs.
5/7 - Warpigs 8, Wahoos 1 - Cliff Lee went the distance and Albert Pujols hit a solo shot in the 4th inning and a grand slam in the 5th. Ryan Doumit added a 3-run homer in the 8th. Scott Baker took the loss. Orlando Hudson's hitting streak came to an end at 20 games.
The Wahoos reached the 35-game mark to avoid the Demerit Man, but dropped to 10 1/2 games in back of the Warpigs in the BUD.

Dinner with Roger Staubach
Mrs. Pig and I (and a few hundred other GPISD invitees) had dinner tonight with Hall of Fame QB Roger Staubach. The occasion was a Character Recognition Banquet for GPISD. Roger is friends with our Superintendent and spoke for free. There was also both a silent auction and a live auction. The live auction included, among other things, footballs signed by Staubach... Drew Pearson and Staubach... Tony Romo... and one signed by Super Bowl champs Roger Staubach, Tom Rafferty, Larry Brown, and... some Green Bay Packer guy (I can't remember, but he was on their Super Bowl winning team in 1997 - Doug Evans maybe?) - and those four guys were all in attendance. The Roger football and the one signed by both him and Drew went for $2000 each. All proceeds went to the GPISD Education Foundation, the oldest such organization in the state. The organization raises funds for scholarships and innovative teacher grants.

May 8 - @ The BallPork - Warpigs 10, Rhinos 3 - Chipper Jones had two 3-run homers to lead the Pigs. Albert Pujols and Curtis Granderson also homered. Rich Harden struck out 16 in 7 innings, allowing only 1 earned run.
May 9 - @ The BallPork - Warpigs 5, Rhinos 3 - Albert Pujols homered twice, including a 2-run homer to break a tie in the 7th. Billy Wagner got the win in relief of Ervin Santana. Russ Springer earned the save.
May 10 - @ The BallPork - Warpigs 7, Rhinos 4 - The Pigs scored 4 in the first and 3 in the second, and then hung on for the win. Chipper Jones hit another 3-run homer, and Ryan Doumit hit a solo shot. Hanley Ramirez went 3-4 with two homers for the Rhinos. Justin Duchscherer got the win and Russ Springer saved his second in a row.
June 18 - @ Rhino Field - Warpigs 8, Rhinos 5 - The O-Dog, Orlando Hudson, carried the Pigs this game. He hit a 2-run homer in the 5th and a grand slam in the 6th to offset the three homers the Rhinos hit off of Rich Harden. Harden struck out 10 in 6 innings to get the win. Joakim Soria got a save. Chipper Jones hit another home run for the Pigs.
June 19 - @ Rhino Field - Warpigs 5, Rhinos 4 - The lead see-sawed back and forth all game, but the Pigs pulled it out in the top of the 9th. Curtis Granderson doubled off of Matt Lindstrom, and then Rafael Furcal doubled off of Joey Devine to drive him home. Geoff Geary got the win in relief, and Joakim Soria saved it.
June 20 - @ Rhino Field - Warpigs 15, Rhinos 10 - Rhino starter Oliver Perez took a beating, and the Rhinos trailed 13-0 after two innings. The Rhinos homered 4 times off of Ervin Santana, but couldn't overcome that deficit. The Pigs had 15 hits.

The Warpigs and Wahoos split a pair of games today.
May 4 - @ The BallPork - Warpigs 3, Wahoos 1 - Rich Harden went the distance, allowing 6 hits and striking out 7. Chipper Jones hit a 2-run homer in the first inning off of Ricky Nolasco. Orlando Hudson went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Justin Morneau homered for the Wahoos.
May 5 - @ The BallPork - Wahoos 9, Warpigs 5 - Ervin Santana got blasted again, but avoided the loss when the Pigs scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game. In the top of the 9th, the Wahoos won the game when Billy Wagner gave up a 2-run homer to Johnny Damon and Joakim Soria gave up another 2-run homer to Aramis Ramirez. Cole Hamels pitched well for the Hoos, but the bullpen collapse cost him a win. Justin Morneau went 3-3 with a double and homer. Albert Pujols homered for the Pigs.

April 13 @Baptist Bowl - Warpigs 3, Inmates 2 - Justin Duchscherer's shutout bid ended in the 9th when Joakim Soria tried to blow the game.
May 25 @BallPork - Inmates 7, Warpigs 5 - Rich Harden had a no-hitter into the 6th, and struck out 11 in 7 innings, but Billy Wagner struggled and took the loss. The Pigs hit into 4 double plays.
May 26 @ BallPork - Warpigs 5, Inmates 4 in 10 innings - Manny Ramirez pinch hit a game-tying homer in the 9th, and Orlando Hudson hit a walk off double in the 10th. In the Battle of the Santanas, Johan won the duel as Ervin still has not had a scoreless inning against the Inmates.
The Inmates then traveled a couple of miles southeast of the Pig Pen to visit the Mavs. The inhospitable Mavs took 5 of 6, dropping the Inmates 7 and a half games out of first place in the MFD. The Mavs are now over .500 and within 2 games of the first place Buckeyes.

Unfortunately, the rule about reporting your games in a timely manner - BOTH teams must report within 24 hours - was broken repeatedly. Folks, let's learn our lesson from this first month and not let this happen again. The following are the demerit totals for the first month:

Fungoes win 4 of the last 5 to force the split. Scott Olson took a no hitter into the 8th only to lose it on a SSx chance. My 2 at short wasn't good enough for the no-no. Gave up some real hits in the ninth anyway and then lost the game. Way to go Papelbon!
Wakefield took a 1 hitter into the 9th in game 10 but gave up a two-run shot to A-Rod to bust up the shutout. Wakefield still collected the win as Fungi won game ten 7-2.
The SuperGoofs and the Buckeyes split 4 games. The Goofs also reach the 20-game plateau.

Games
The Wahoos hosted the VivaZaPastas and took 3 out of 4. The Pastas drop below .500 with the losses but hang onto first place in the AWD. The Wahoos move to within a game and a half of first place in the BUD.
The FFTs hosted 7 vs the Drillers and went 2-5. The Drillers' lead in the NERD increases to 2.5 games over the DVs. The FFTs are now 10 games back of the Drillers.

Games
The DVs swept 5 from the Inmates, finishing up a 9-1 season vs the Impotentmates.

DVs took all 5 vs Inmates via a very fucked-up netplay on Saturday.
Playing the September games first due to persnickety HAL, Inmates out-hit DVs 17-16, but lost in 12 innings 11-9 as Santana allowed 3 1-5 ballpark taters. Game 2 was uglier, as the Beakless Chicken gang was routed 9-2. The last game at the Baptist Bowl saw the Inmates take it in the ass 13-2.
Moving to Tulsa for the August games saw Santana shutout by Halladay 2-0. The finale had Ryan Howard hit 3 taters and a double, yet the Impotentmates still couldn’t win, losing 10-6.
Inmates are now 10-15.

And a good time was had by all….
DVs now 15-8 – the new netplay sucks, btw. Finally got it going in Hamachi, but trying to get it going with game only did not work – and Hart’s program would shut down everytime he tried to access lobby. For me, during the game setup, whenever I would try and click control over to him – it would hang. We ended up playing all 5 on his machine, with him home and visitor, which seemed to work a little better.
Not sure how/what we need to do - I like the drag and drop, but it is very different in terms of how we hand control back and forth.
And one of the homers was a 1-3 split card reading, not a ballpark homer – bee-otch!

The Drillers hosted the FFTs for 7 games, and won 6 of them. The Drillers extended their early lead over the DVs to 3.5 games, while the FFTs dropped under .500 for the year.

The first deadline is approaching. All teams must have played and reported at least 20 games by April 1st. The Wahoos, SuperGoofs, DVs, and Rhinos need to get some games in this weekend. Don't be an April's Fool.

Mock Draft vs the Actual First Round
The first five selections of the Draft matched the Mock Draft pick for pick. The Mock picks are in parenthesis.
1. David Price, Fungoes (Price)

I had no real intentention of taking Cliff Lee at 4 when I wrote the Mock, but the closer we got to Draft Day the more I realized I needed his card and those innings. The Goofs were hoping to get Davis, but settled for his second choice of Ramirez.
6. Justin Duchscherer, Warpigs (Balfour)
Despite what I predicted in the Mock, I had planned on taking Duchscherer at 4 and Kuo at 6. But I figured the two starters would serve me better by keeping Lackey from pitching in any homer parks this year. I also trusted that Matt Thornton would last until pick 17, and his card was every bit as good as Kuo's. If Thornton didn't survive, though, the gamble wouldn't have paid off.
7. Nate McLouth, Nads (McLouth)
Six of the first seven picks were correct in the Mock Draft.
8. Max Scherzer, Pastas (Duchscherer)
I commented that this team had to make a choice between current card and potential here. Scherzer helps in both. I had Scherzer going 14 to the Fungoes... and if he had made it that far, he would have.
9. Grant Balfour, Buckeyes (Teagarden)
The best reliever in the Draft falls to the Buckeyes at pick 9, making my prediction of Teagarden a moot point. Teagarden then started the big slide... sitting back in the green room all alone by the time he was chosen by the Sidewinders with pick 45. Said Taylor, "It was embarrassing to sit there so long all alone, not being picked. Even when all the kids made fun of my name, they still picked me for their team because... well, because I am GOOD! And now this. And to make it even worse, I have to play for the damn Snakes!"
10. Kerry Wood, Killer Bees (Danks)
I thought I had Wood going earlier (at pick 16) than he really would, but it turns out I had him slotted too late. I really thought the Bees would take anything other than a reliever, but Wood fits the Beeboy's plan of returning to the top in 2010.
11. Hong-Chi Kuo, Drillers (Kuo)
Another pick right on the money, even though I thought at the time that Kuo would really have gone earlier. Still, it's a great pick.
12. Taylor Buchholz, Wahoos (Wade)
When it came to this pick in the Mock Draft, I was torn between Wade and Buchholz because the Chief told me, "I'm torn between Wade and Buchholz." Buchholz gets the nod because, according to the Wahoo manager, "He's cuter."

Danks slid a little, and the Snakeman unlocked his jaw and swallowed him whole. Devine would have helped, but Danks is a better pick.

When writing the Mock Draft, I knew Snider was going here. Just knew it. But I wanted Snider at pick 17, so I tried to lead the Fungoes to Choo. Plus, I liked the 'Gezundheit' line. Choo lasted until pick 37 - a nice pick by the Goofs. I know the FungoDude preferred either Scherzer or Danks with the other pick, but they were both already off the board. Arredondo is a nice consolation.

The Colonel assured me he would not take Wood (something about sloppy seconds), but I left the pick there because I liked the idea of him taking one of his cuts with his first round pick. Devine is a great pick for the Rhinos. His only drawback is the limited innings. The Rhinos made it an even better Draft by grabbing Corey Wade at pick 18.

Draft Wrap Up
Results are still coming in. I'll list all outcomes when I have them all. It's important to report how you did vs each opponent. There was one instance of two teams reporting different results from their games. It could have been a typo or possibly just an old man's faulty memory, but it's good that we get it straightened out right away. And I know, FIFTEEN of us already know to do this, and the 16th manager will never read this and wouldn't get it anyway.

Rosters and Draft Picks
The official pre-Draft rosters are now posted on NASOMA.org. You can view the html version of them by clicking on the appropriate place on the menu bar across the top, or download a printable excel file by clicking in the appropriate place on the left side of the screen.
The draft picks you can use are based on the picks you own and the number of players you protected. The formula is this:
(30) + (number of reserves you have) + (2 optional picks) - (number of protected players) = number of draft picks you get.
Example... the Fungoes have 4 reserves and protected 20 players. So...
30 + 4 + 2 - 20 = 16 draft picks, the last 2 of which are optional.
Now, the pick numbers of the picks you own, beginning at #142, will have changed. The reason for this is: pick 142, previously the Rhino 9th round pick, is lost to him because his last player (including his optional picks) will be taken prior to pick 142. So then everybody after 142 slides up one. That continues every time a team makes its last selection.
On the roster page, underneath your players, is a list of your draft picks. They are also listed on the Draft Grid. I didn't mark "optional" by your last two picks this year. Just know that your last two picks are the "Tweener Rule" picks. If you use them, you'll need to make cuts to get back to your allowable number of players.
I'm probably doing a crappy job of explaining all this. Sorry.

The World Champion Killer Bees retained the fewest players (14), followed by the Nads (16), the Tweeners (17), the Inmates (18), and the DVs (19). The most players were kept by the Rhinos (26), the Warpigs (25), and the FFTs (24).
Of the last 23 scheduled picks in the draft, the Tweeners have 8, the Killer Bees 5, the Nads 5, the Inmates 3, and the DVs 2. Those will be the teams picking at the end of the evening.
The Warpigs make the first optional pick of the Draft at #89, and the Pigs will also be the first team to make their final selection at pick #121. The Rhinos are next, finishing up with pick #129.
Counting optional picks, the Bees have the most draft picks with 20. The Warpigs have the fewest with 8.
There were six uncarded players protected, and half were by the Fungoes. The Warpigs are the only team who cannot draft an uncarded player (barring any trades between now and the Draft).

500th Post
Read some sad news this morning. Something I missed from this off season... The Winston Salem Warthogs are no more. (What is a "thog" anyway?) The new team name is the Winston-Salem Dash. The "Dash" comes from the punctuation mark between the two city names (it replaces the space in the old name). How dumb is that?
I managed to find one last black Warthog cap in my size on Amazon. Bought it.

Flash Drives and Hamachi
First of all, if you're not already doing this, it's a good idea to install the SOMBB game on a flash drive or external hard drive instead of your C drive. I installed onto an 8G flash drive, but it doesn't have to be that big. Now I can play the game from any desktop pc or laptop without changing the authorization.
Also, and this is a biggie... install Hamachi on your computer. It makes netplay so easy. The DVs and I struggled to get the game played the conventional way, but when connecting thru Hamachi, we had no problems at all (other than getting Chase Utley out).
Both teams have to have it running to use it. If one of the teams doesn't have it, your only option is connecting thru the game. With Hamachi, however, you can easily host or join, be home or away, enter thru the game lobby or not - all quickly and easily.
Here are the directions...

I would leave the Security option UNCHECKED, as there’s no reason to have Hamachi running unless you’re playing Strat

Finish to launch Hamachi
You’ll get a prompt saying that you appear to be running Hamachi for the first time. Click Next to take the short tutorial.
Now we’re going to launch Hamachi for the first time and create your own Hamachi network address. Click the power button in the bottom left
Choose an account nickname (mine was Pigman) This will be how you are displayed in the Hamachi network.
If you get a Windows Security Alert, choose “Unblock”
Now the Hamachi window will show your personal Hamachi network address and your Hamachi account nickname.
Click Next to complete the tutorial. You’re now ready to join the network we’ve already established for our league. Click the second button on the bottom row where you’ll have an option to Create a new network or Join an Existing Network. Choose the Join option.
Choose NASOMA for the name of the network you are joining, and founded1980 for the network password. Click Join.
Now you’re in. You’ll see other members of the league, displayed by their network address, name or both. You can right-click on a name to choose Set Label and adjust the display.
If the names are in gray, then the other users are not logged in. If they are green, they are logged in. You can right-click, choose Chat, and start a conversation with someone.
Now you’re ready to play NetPlay. One team “hosts” while the other “joins.” The joining team enters the host team’s Hamachi address. For example, to connect to the Warpigs, you would enter 5.138.22.200. Even easier is to have both teams enter the Game Lobby first and launch the game from there.
